I also love how no matter how much time passes the show never forgets what came before. the scene in season 5 where glenn fixes a van as a reference to the scene at the beginning of season 2 where dale teaches him how to shows this beautifully. what made the character deaths in twd so impactful wasn't just that they could kill off anyone but that the deaths weren't swept under the rug. when people died they were remembered, they made an impact, they left a legacy

one thing I'll always give the walking dead is they were the masters of show don't tell. you cannot tear your eyes away for a second or you'll miss some important shot of a character looking at a tree branch with a somber expression which is a reference to a scene in season 1 where they sat down against a tree and which is crucial for their character arc

the glenn fake out is really stupid but it's especially stupid when the whole time they're making you wait to find out what happened while also dropping subtle hints towards him being dead you already know he's alive and the explanation is incredibly dumb. I can't imagine watching this when it aired i would have burned amc to the ground

genuinely whose idea was it when they were making season 6 to be like "you know what'd be cool? if we made every episode completely unrelated to one another and also ended every single one of them on a cliff hanger so people have to wait 8 episodes to find out what the hell happened and by that point they don't even care"
