"Come Home" from the "I Command" Series - Iranian Artist GITA MEH
In “I Command”, Gita Meh reconstructs Michelangelo’s marvelous Sistine Chapel fresco, to deliver images and scenes that she as a middle eastern multicultural migrant woman has encountered throughout her life. Dedicating more than 30 years of her life immigrating between nations for the sake of art and encountering cultures and events from all over the world, resulted in her garnish of a set of genuine emotions that complimented her artistic ability into forming this magnificent series, which took more than 28 years. In the series, she tries to bridge our modern political and social atmosphere to that of renaissance Italy, by drawing and painting over the imagery that was depicted by Michelangelo 500 years ago. She infuses the work of Michelangelo with the pure elements and beauty of Middle Eastern art throughout different approaches.
I exist here, now. I’m not much interested in the future. Or, more precisely put, I do not believe in the future. To exaggerate a little, I have no faith that I will still exist tomorrow or the day after. What is more, I absolutely detest retrospection. That dislike is balances only by my desire to make my way back home as quickly as possible.
