Anorthosite is an intrusive igneous rock characterised by mostly plagioclase feldspar. The top pictures two sample of Anorthosite found on earth, and the bottom pictures anorthosite samples from our Moon.
The reason the moon samples seem much lighter and broken up is because of all of the impacts our Moon has dealt with over millions of years, turning the rock into the fine white dust we know today.
I have more moon samples on the way. :)
Hello, friendly geologist here to report on some obsidian samples!
Here we have snowflake and mahogany obsidian. Obsidian is an igneous mineral which is basically nature's violent glass. The color infused with the obsidian here is a product of other minerals cooling with the obsidian. The red you see can either be Haematite or Magnetite, and the white snowflake patterns here are Cristobalite.
It's been a busy year. I'm currently at University studying a plethora of rocks and minerals. I'll have to show you the campus's collection sometime. :)
K2 Granite, or K2 Jasper, from northern Pakistan. A close up shows the coarse detail of the granite infused with the azurite drops and malachite specks. This is a rare combination, exclusively found on Mt. Godwin Austen.
Fluorite - the glow rock. It's a unique gemstone that glows under ultraviolet light due to its electrons getting energized. Rare cases of fluorite heat up when heated (thermoluminescience). It's cute.
Opal can be found in a variety of colors, this one just happens to be pink. Most opal is found in Australia, and is formed by with water, classifying it as a mineraloid.
Citrine, along with being absolutely gorgeous, is the second most popular quartz behind amethyst. A lot of citrine is created with heat treatment on amethyst, and natural citrine is quite rare.

Australian Jasper-one of the many many many types of Jasper that exist on earth. It's nickname is Mookaite. It's silicate is opaline (varying colors) to chalcedony (quartz occurring in varying forms and plain colors). This guy was found in Mooka Creek some ways from Perth, Australia.

Angelite is a form of Anhydrite found in Peru. Unlike gypsum, this mineral lacks water, giving it a fog like color. Angelite is another stone which is associated with enlightenment. It's also very pretty.

Shiva Lingam only found in the Narmada River of India. This stone is the sacred symbol of the Hindu god, Shiva. It is made up of cryptocrystalline quarts, also known as chalcedony. This means the rock is made up of tiny microscopic ingrown opaque crystals like onyx and agate. Beyond the composition, the stone symbolizes the origins of the universe, hence the egg shape signifying birth and creation.
Lapis lazuli is a beautiful stone made of Lazurite found in the Northeastern region of Afganistan. Throughout millenias, this stone has been used to create an ultramarine pigment. It’s bluness comes from the trisulfer radical ion crystal within the stone. It’s symbolic for giving enlightenment.
Lepidolite is a Lithium rich mica (aluminum silicate) found in New Mexico, Maine, California, and Brazil. It's known by crystal healing enthusiasts as a mineral which encourages a healthy transition in someone's life. Sometimes it's pink, but this one's deep purple can be dazzling to look at.
Around the town of Lagos in Portugal, there's a region of limestone. Limestone is composed of calcite and aragonite, and forms with organic material from marine life. This lil guy here was found near Lagos.
This is Scoria. It comes from basaltic lava in violent volcanic eruptions. This one was found around Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, US. It's igneous characteristics give it a frothy texture, yet it is very light in weight while it is tough in texture.
In Naica, Chihuahua, Mexico, there is a Cave of Crystals lying about 1000 feet below the limestone. It is home to some of the biggest beams of crystals in the world. Here is a smaller piece of gypsum from that cave. It chips easily, but is very pretty once shown under the light. Like a crystal sword kinda. These babies are packed with good vibes.
