Recording: And I Love Her, Tell Me Why, If I Fell 27 February 1964
I see the beginning of the story/fic here: Paul and John quarreled, and it's completely Paul's fault. He knows that he is guilty and he is trying to figure out how to reconcile. But it's not that easy, because John totally ignores him.
Private School AU, where John and his friends are all hip, cool cats, who have ‘soirees’ instead of parties, listen to avant-garde music, organize passionate rallies for every cause imaginable, talk mostly about philosophy and fashion, and as much as they think themselves precious, they are pretty cocky and rambunctious, and they have an ongoing feud with the conventionally popular students, who have tried and failed to shun them many a time. Queue in new transfer student Paul McCartney: conscientious, hard-working, intelligent, equally despising of both groups, but gaining popularity with the female cohort, and rapidly becoming the school’s darling. Paul thinks the cool cats are pretentious troublemakers, and tends to keep his head down when they are around, but he can’t help being drawn to their free spirit and lackadaisical attitude, to their philosophical gibberish and ridiculously tight pants, because he’s harbouring a secret desire to become a rebel himself, and give in to that tempting freedom of expression, no matter how inappropriate it might be. Of course, he could never disappoint his father in such a way, but whenever John Lennon, self-appointed king of the cats, is around, Paul can’t turn his head away, catching himself scowling at John’s arrogant attitude on one minute, and then lamenting not being cool enough to join him on the next. Paul knows John and his friends are inconsequential loud mouths, and surely he’ll leave them well behind, both literally and figuratively, when school is over, but in a surprising twist of fate, he realizes there’s a lot more to John than his infectious grin and charisma, and that they are very similar deep down, and now he can’t get it out of his mind that they should be friends. He keeps emphasizing the word ‘friends‘, because his mind has, well, a mind of its own, and is prone to ridiculous, and frankly, dangerous thoughts. One thing is for sure, this school year will be unforgettable for everyone.
