one of the biggest and most devious tools being used against voters now is that voting locations for lower income neighborhoods and neighborhoods that are primarily black or hispanic are suddenly closed down, in the middle of nowhere, or only open for 4 hours a day do whatever you can to help negate that being a barrier

At my last company, one day someone in accounting approached me at lunch and quietly told me I need to ask for a raise because I was way underpaid.

They gave me a number to shoot for. It was about twice than what I had been making at the time.

So I went online, did some research, found some figures backing up my claim, put it all together and went to my boss.

I got what I asked for.

If it hadn’t been for that person in accounting telling me I was way underpaid, I’d have never known. I went from barely scraping by to being able to have a savings account and getting all my debts paid thanks to them.

You should at least check sites like salary.com to start the process of seeing what you should be making.

Because this is crucially important

Except for the fact that 90% of the time you are under contract not to talk about your salary otherwise the company can sue you. Every job I’ve had I’ve had to sign that I won’t discuss my pay with other employees otherwise my employment is terminated and the company will take legal action.

It’s actually illegal for companies to forbid wage discussion, they’re just counting on you not knowing your rights.

Friday, September 21st - Hi everyone, I’m Gemma and this is a continuation/evidence of my overdue rent post as I desperately need help to pay it and avoid eviction.

Earlier today I received the following letter from my housing association, stating that I have 7 days to pay my outstanding rent arrears which have continuously built up in arrears over the past few months due to my benefit’s being sanctioned and myself having no income. As you can see from the image above and from my previous post, my October rent + late charges are £385.55 and are due to be paid a.s.a.p or September 30th at latest.

My Housing Benefit was meant to be back in place for this coming month (October’s) rent but due to a clerical error in which my housing association forgot to send the confirmation of my tenancy to DWP, my rent still won’t be paid and won’t be reinstated until late October and a missed payment could result in eviction proceedings. I have absolutely no income to pay this and the £117 U.C benefit I am due to receive at the start of next week is barely enough to cover my utilities and get groceries and I desperately need help until my benefits are fully reinstated.

If anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would literally save my life and, sharing definitely helps just as much as donations. Nobody has to donate if they can’t or don’t want to, I know we’re all struggling. Thank you for your help 💖

Anyways the way Tumblr treats the Perks Of Being A Wallflower like it’s cringe and bad just because of the hipster craze over it in 2012 and ignoring the fact that it’s one of the few books/movies that shows the ugly side of teen mental illness and discusses sexual trauma in young boys (something only portrayed in shows like SVU) is in fact, bullshit, and I’ll never forgive y'all for taking the line “we accept the love we think we deserve” (a reference to toxic abusive relationships) and turning it into cringe culture. This is a book about a struggling depressed kid who I saw myself in as a teen, and yeah he and his friends could be annoying and pretentious but are you going to say you weren’t as a kid?

Honestly, I read the book back in the early 2009 when I was getting ready to start college, and the above line, “we accept the love we think we deserve”, was so utterly profound in helping me to realize I was in an abusive relationship and why I kept going back to him.

It gave me the power to reject the idea that this was all I was worth, and made me hold myself to a higher standard of self love and worth, and to ensure I never let anyone treat me like that again.

Words matter. Even popular ones.

Fuck, even those “live laugh love” signs are important to somebody. And if looking at those signs every day keeps someone going and reminds them of important things in their life, just fucking let them be and mind your own business.

We’re all just trying to get by in our own way. There’s no need to make it any harder.
