Svalich Woods
The Svalich Woods is a dense forest of old growth beech-firs along the Old Svalich Road in Barovia from the Village of Barovia to the Nova Vaasan frontier. It is home to a variety of individuals and creatures, dire wolves in particular. Travel through the woods at night is dangerous, but sticking to the Old Svalich Road is the relatively safer option.Â
Village of Barovia
âLord save us from these miserable lives.â
The Village of Barovia is easily the grimmest place in Barovia. The devil Strahdâs lair, Castle Ravenloft, is ever looking down upon them and the mists are thicker here. The village is isolated from the other places in the valley by either forest or mountains. There is no wall or protection for the townsfolk here, all the townâs guards have either been killed off or fled. The resulting intrusions from wolves, bats and other creatures of the night have left the town in an irreparable state. Its townspeople have resigned themselves to lives of misery and torment, with no hope for a brighter future.
Chapitre V - White Light
As your group made their way down the Old Svalich Road towards the Town of Vallaki, you encountered a second search party of Vistani and Dusk Elf bandits who were looking for their leaderâs missing daughter. Your group was less trusting of them, and your group decided to complete the rest of the trip off the main road and traveled down a side path that lay alongside Lake Zarovich. In passing, you noticed a man sitting on a small fishing boat in the middle of the lake, whistling out-of-tune to himself as he dropped a medium-sized knapsack into the water. Thinking nothing of it, your group continued west, eventually reaching a Vistani Camp.
Vistani Camp
A small, permanent encampment just outside the Town of Vallaki that is home to a group of dangerous Vistani bandits and Dusk-Elf rogues who serve Strahd out of necessity and fear. Because of their servitude to the Devil Strahs, they are not trusted by residents from Vallaki and are barred entry beyond its walls.
Old Bonegrinder Windmill Along the Old Svalich Road, nestled atop a hill bordering the forest sits an old, decrepit windmill which currently serves as the residence for a trio of Night Hags and the production site for their magical âDream Pastriesâ, which they sell to the residents of Barovia who wish to escape from the great sorrow that fills their lives.
DANIKA MARTIKOV
Owner of the Blue Water Inn alongside her charming husband, Urwin. Together, they have two playful and energetic children, Brom & Bray Marikov. Unlike her husband, she is more reserved towards strangers, but still upholds the Blue Water Innâs esteemed hospitality.Â
URWIN MARTIKOV
Owner of the Blue Water Inn alongside his beautiful wife, Danika. He offers warm hospitality towards any who visit his establishment and is well liked by the residents of Vallaki. Like many in the Town of Vallaki, he opposes the Burgomasterâs methods but has the sense to keep his opinions subdued. He is eager to meet new people, as outsiders are incredibly rare, and offers accommodations at a very reasonable cost.
Baron Vargas
The current burgomaster for the Town of Vallaki. He enforces constant joy in his people by holding weekly festivals and believes that through happiness, Vallaki will be freed from Strahdâs tyranny. He will not allow for anyone to speak against his methods, and any who oppose him are immediately punished for treason and cast out from his town in order to maintain happiness.Â
Town of Vallaki
âAll will be well!â
A large town under the rule of Burgomaster Baron Vargas, who believes that through happiness, the town and its inhabitants will be protected from Strahd and his minions. Its citizens are under strict orders to uphold peace and happiness and must partake in the burgomasterâs weekly celebrations to maintain this joy. Failure to comply results in severe punishment.
Luvash and Arrigal
Two brothers who lead a small band of dangerous Vistani bandits and Dusk Elves within a small camp right outside of the Town of Vallaki.Â
Luvash is a drunken brute who has gained the respect of his people through strength and intimidation, whereas his brother Arrigal is obeyed due to his cunning and manipulation.Â
However different their methods for commanding respect, both lead as equals and strive to protect their people from threats, and serve Strahd in an effort to create a better life for themselves and those who look to them for protection.
The two were casualties among many Vistani and Dusk Elves who were destroyed by The Monk with No Name after a confrontation with the adventurers became violent.
Chapitre IV - The Windmill
After meeting with Madam Eva and obtaining the necessary supplies from the Vistani encampment, your group headed northwest towards the Town of Vallaki, where Ireena would be safe from Strahd. You encountered wolves and a group of Vistani travellers searching for a missing girl by the name of Arabelle, but nothing that significantly slowed your travels. At least, up until you reached an old windmill.
Chapitre III - Fortunes
Your group defeated Lorgoth the Decayer and succeeded in escaping from the Death House. Once outside, your group made their way to the town's tavern, where you met Ismark Kolyanovich, who asked for your aid in putting his father's body to rest. You learned that he had died three days ago after a series of attacks on their estate, led by the Devil Strahd after recently taking interest in Ireena, the burgomaster's daughter. Your group agreed to help, and so you made your way to the town's chapel.
Chapitre II - Death House
Resting in what was evidently a haunted house yielded your group much needed rest, at the cost temporary madness and hallucinations from certain members among your group. The mysterious fog that led you here having completely enveloped the building, you pressed onward.
Chapitre I - Invitation
Your group of adventurers have received a summons letter from a gypsy man on behalf of his leader, Burgomaster Kolyan Indirovich, with the promise of great riches for any travelers who may come to his town and help save his adopted daughter, Ireena.
Ireena Kolyana
Adopted daughter to the Village of Baroviaâs burgomaster, Kolyan Indirovich. She has been the primary target of Strahdâs attacks within the past several weeks, and has been bitten by him twice, but carries no recollections of their encounters. Her fatherâs dying wish was that she escape the Town of Barovia and seek refuge as far from Strahdâs castle as possible. She hates the idea of needing to be protected and will lend her aid in combat if possible.
