The blonde gave Curtis a blank stare, tilting her head to the side at his proposal. How was a 5″2′ girl able to hold down a St. Bernard enough for a bath? Let alone one as playful and enthusiastic as Misty May? “The next two months?…how about, like, four weeks, instead?”

“How about two months and I help you a little bit. Like I oversee the operation- give you tips and pointers.” He knew his request was impending to put it nicely. Misty was rambunctious and always looking for the best opportunity to steal affection- having someone forced to give it to her whilst also getting her wet? Izzy may as well bring her swimsuit.

She couldn’t help but snort out at her friend’s words as she allowed him to take her hand in his, leading her towards the tea in the kitchen. “Gee, I feel protected already.” Izzy replied softly, lightly squeezing the male’s hand in a small form of appreciation. The longer she was in the apartment the more she felt at ease, and as if there really wasn’t anything to be afraid of. Maybe she would actually be able to get some sleep tonight…there was always hope, right? Once they made it to the kitchen, the fairy began to stroke the top of Misty’s head who had followed after them as she took her seat. “Uh, what kinda tea, is it?” The blonde asked, momentarily forgetting about the situation at hand as she watched him pour the tea into two mugs, a small grin meeting her lips.

Once they got to the kitchen, Curtis gently released her hand, ignoring the voice telling him to bring her to his chest and hold onto her for a few moments. There was no point in offering the hug when she was already clearly relaxing. It would just be awkward. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Curtis cleared his throat and began pouring the tea. “It’s a blueberry tea- I hope you don’t mind. I don’t keep much tea on hand, I’m afraid. More of a coffee or water guy. Is this alright? I can always run out to the store and see if they have something else.” He offered, pausing in his pouring to turn around and check her features for a cue on her decision.

At his teasing, Izzy couldn’t stop the inevitable eyeroll, though there was a small hint of a smile that graced her lips. “Oh, don’t flatter yourself!” She mumbled out, lightly nudging him aside. The blonde let out a small breath of relief once Misty May was moved away, taking Curtis’ hand and dusting herself off once she was back up on her feet, finding the Scottish-man’s smile to be quite contagious. “Oh yes, my hero. To what do I owe this great rescue?”

“You have to give Misty her baths for the next two months. I save you from the beast, you get to wash her. I think it’s fair.” He said, a dubious shrug added for effect. It was an ordeal to wash the pup- she always got overly excited at the contact and water.

Izzy was looking around his apartment when he found her once again, silently observing her surroundings. It was a nice place he had put together. There was a place for everything and everything was in its place. She couldn’t help but smile at how very Curtis it all was. Unlike her space, which had mountains upon mountains of projects and other things scattered about. (It drove Tiana off the wall) It was funny how two people who seemed to be so different in certain aspects could end up working together so well. As his voice reached her, Izzy gave him a small appreciative smile. “T-thank you. That’s really sweet of you…though I think it might be b-best that you know what you’ll be getting yourself i-into. Even though, yanno…I-I was the one who…came here. You have a really nice place, by the way.” The fairy mumbled out, continuing to play with the hem of the shirt she was wearing.

With a grin, Curtis stuffed his hands into his sweatpant pockets and leaned against the doorframe, watching the blonde relax into the space. It felt right, watching her look around and let some of the tension leak out. It made him feel like he was actually helping her. “I’d rather be shoved into some situation than let you go through it alone.” He promised, moving away from the door and towards his friend. “C’mon, get some tea. Relax. Nothing bad will happen to you here- you got a ferocious guard dog, and then there’s Misty. She’ll be there too.” He offered out his hand, trying to help ease her from the bedroom and towards the kitchen.

She felt a tad ridiculous as she stood there in his pajamas, flushing slightly as she felt Curtis’ eyes on her. It probably looked ridiculous as well. “I-I’m like…literally drowning. But they’re warm and soft so…” Izzy gave a small shrug of her shoulders as she began to play with the hem of the shirt, before handing over her wet clothes a little taken aback at his quick reaction and stuttering. He must have been exhausted, the thought filling her with guilt once more before she looked back up at his offer of tea, nodding her head lightly. Maybe once they were sat down having a cup she could give him a bit of an idea of what might happen tonight. The thought making the nerves fill her gut, but he deserved to know, or to at least have somewhat of an idea of what happens to her around this time of the night. This was a side of her no one else had seen aside from her roommate (and if Izzy had her way, even Tiana wouldn’t have had to experience it)  “Could you? H-honestly that sounds really nice right now.”

With her acceptance of his offer for tea, Curtis ducked down his head and left his bedroom, heading towards his washer and dryer to finish drying out Izzy’s things. Misty May plodded along beside him, her head swiveled towards him to take in his reactions. “What do you think?” He murmured, pausing to scratch the dog’s head before opening the dryer and tossing in the few pieces in his hands. “We gotta help her out, Misty May. Protect her and everything. That’s our job.” He whispered, a small grin worming its way out despite his embarrassment at his reaction to the blonde. One task done, he padded his way to the kitchen where he set the kettle on the burner, waiting to hear it steam before looking for Izzy. “You don’t have to talk about why you’re here if you don’t want to. I won’t push.” He promised, more awake now than before.

 The blonde immediately nodded as he corrected his small slip up. Of course. Of course he meant Misty May. If Curtis had someone else over while she was here that would be just awkward, wouldn’t it? And even though what he meant seemed blatantly obvious, she had to push aside the small bit of…what even was that? Disappointment? Jealousy? No, absolutely not. Of course not. The thought was completely laughable, and she decided to chalk it up to the drowsiness that began to overtake her as well. “Right, yeah. Of course. W-who else could it be? Obviously.” Damn her flushing cheeks. It was most definitely time for bed. Izzy quickly caught the pjs as they were tossed her way, looking down to have a look at them. They probably wouldn’t fit her properly but they would have to do, he was doing far more than she could have asked for. As Curtis momentarily left to get her towel the small blonde caught herself tugging at her lower lip. What was it that made that accent of his so prominent? What ever it was, it was definitely messing with her, and she didn’t like it. The mechanic brought her gaze over to Misty May as she was sleepily laying down right next to her, beginning to lightly stroke the large dog before he came right back, handing her the towel. “Perfect. T-thank you, again.” Izzy said once more before heading towards the bathroom to clean herself up, before coming back out with the sweat pants rolled up to not trip and the shirt tucked in to her hips. She never realized how significant the sizes between the two really was up until this point. “Um, I just give these to you, r-right?” She asked, the wet clothes being held out, embarrassingly.

While Izzy was off changing, Curtis sank down onto his bed and scrubbed his hands through his curls. He had no idea what he was doing, or even trying to do. He cared for Izzy, and she obviously needed him right now, but he had no idea what she was really going through or how to offer the best help. But there was the problem- unless she was about to come back and pour her woes onto him, he had to accept that all she needed from him was his dog and his company. Something he felt was woefully inadequate, but seemed to maybe be enough for the fairy? When she emerged from the bathroom, figure hidden in his baggy pajamas, Curtis could only stare and try to drag his jaw up off the floor. She looked beautiful. “Y-y-yeah. I uh... I got that, those. I can take care of those.” He stammered, jumping to his feet and cradling the clothes to his chest. As he moved past her he paused, hands kneading the fabric. “Do you uh... do you want some tea? I can make a pot while I throw these in the dryer.”

As the small blonde finished her ramble of an explanation she couldn’t help the small tang of guilt and nervousness that overtook her as she chewed on her lower lip, silently awaiting his answer. She wouldn’t blame him for just closing the door on her, really. It would hurt, and she would have to find somewhere else before the rain picked up even more, but she wouldn’t blame him. So once he wordlessly stepped aside to allow her in, the fairy had to keep herself from throwing herself at the other as she entered. “Thank you so much.” She offered, soft and genuine as the St. Bernard found her way to Izzy, tiredly searching for the girl’s hand to pet her. The girl immediately began to shake her head as the werewolf mentioned the bed in his room, not wanting to step on any more toes tonight. “Oh no, y-you don’t have to do that, really. I-I don’t want to be anymore of a bother th-than I’m already being.” She protested after closing the door behind her and following after her friend. Though she was hesitant in taking the bed, it would sure be nice to get out of these clothes. A small trace of a smile came to her features at Curtis’ rambling. Even completely tired and ready for bed he was still the half Scottish bimbo whom she adored so much. She made a mental note of somehow returning the favor in someway. Whatever she thought up probably wouldn’t even begin to cut it, but she could definitely try. Izzy looked up and gave him a small guilty smile as she rubbed behind Misty May’s ears, the action helping her relax some more. “I-I didn’t wake you or keep you f-from something important, right?”

“You’re not a bother, Izzy. Don’t even worry about that. The only thing you’re keeping me from is the brunette I share a bed with.” He soothed, rubbing a hand through his curls instead of realizing how his denial sounded. Misty had a bad habit of jumping on the bed and sleeping alongside him. It was a habit she had picked up from puppyhood she never outgrew didn’t help that Curtis let her sneak it a few times a week. Stopping just outside his bedroom, Curtis turned around with a finger aloft, pausing their progress and his thoughts. “Wayt- when I sad brunet’, ya know I ment M’sty May, righ’?” He asked, shaking his head, flushing slightly at the slip of the accent. He was waking up, but nowhere near the levels he functioned at on a daily basis. His accent was always more prominent when he was tired. Trying not to make an even bigger fool of himself, he hurried into his bedroom and grabbed another set of pajamas, forgetting the size difference between him and the fairy when he tossed them at her. “There’s some dry things- I’ll getcha towel. M’sty May- stay on’er.” He darted a quick glance up to the blonde before hustling beside her to his closet and grabbing a towel, holding it out to her like he was about to be admonished. “How’s this?”

Izzy’s shaking frame stood in front of him as Curtis opened the door, soaking wet as she decided that a jacket wasn’t necessary before heading out. She wasn’t sure how to go about all of this. Sure her partner knew about her situation but she hadn’t had to ask him for something as big as this before. She didn’t want him to worry about her as much as he already had. Allowing her to continue working at the garage and being able to see Misty May every day was all the fairy really needed. That was until Tiana had to take another late night shift, of course. Madeline had suggested that the girl should seek at least one more person to be in her corner in case of this very scenario, and well, apparently that was Curtis now. “Um, h-hi. I know this is p-probably really weird but…Tiana’s working tonight a-and I don’t think I’ve made e-enough progress to trust myself o-on my own because of the nightmares, and I’m really c-cold right now and just want to s-see Misty May, and I can totally t-take the couch if ya want, I-I just…really don’t wanna be a-alone right now…” 

The last thing Curtis expected when he opened the door was to see his favorite mechanic dripping wet and shivering in front of him. It made his brain short out, apparently giving her enough time to explain why she was standing in front of him at eleven at night. Instead of saying anything, Curtis stood aside so she could come in and gave a whistle, leading to Misty’s head lifting up from where she lay on the floor. “You’re on duty, Girl.” He called out, prompting her to sluggishly raise to her feet and prance her way towards the fairy. “I can uh... let me get you a towel. You’re not sleeping on the couch I have a perfectly good bed in my room. But you also need to stop the whole...” He motioned towards her figure, sleep making his words slow to come to mind. “Wet thing you have going on.” With a nod, Curtis waited for Izzy to come in before closing the door behind her, standing with his hands on his hips until he realized he was only wearing a pair of sweatpants and a loose shirt. “Towel.” He exclaimed, realizing what he was missing. “Come on, follow the half-Scottish idiot as he gives his best attempt at life.” He coaxed, walking back to his room to find a towel and change of clothes. “You want to talk about this impromptu appearance, or should I just talk in the Scottish accent and let Misty May do her job?”

“…You know what? would you actually mind repeating that for me? Yanno, to like, record and play back every time I entered a room? With that accent of yours it makes it sound so much more bad ass.You could totally be like the next Morgan Freemen, or something.” Izzy tried to keep herself from laughing out loud as she watched the giant dog slobber all over Curtis’ face. “Aww, Misty, who’s a good girl?” She praised, offering her a treat that Misty May immediately took, her attention quickly shifted towards the small fairy, as she began to move toward her instead. “Oh no, I didn’t think this through…Curtis!” She squeaked out as Misty tackled her to the ground

“Morg’n Freem’n... I neva knuw ya tho’ht I had a sexy-as-hail voice!” Curtis called out, laying his accent down thick to continue their teasing. Once Misty was distracted by Izzy, Curtis laughed and grabbed a rag, scrubbing at the dog saliva as Misty leaned over Izzy. “What, you don’t want Misty kisses?” He taunted, hip-checking the Saint Bernard before she could inflict too much damage. Offering a hand up, Curtis raised his brows as his smile grew. “You owe me one for saving your life.”

“Oh, I’m usually right.” She shrugged, but she was dead serious. “At this point, it looks like you don’t have much other choice. And well, your welcome.” 

“I uh... I better get back to work. Take care, Madam Mayor. And if you ever have car troubles, you know where to find me.”

Cameron couldn’t recall the exact age difference between himself and Curtis but he knew the other male was slightly older than him and contrary to Curtis’ belief, remembered him a bit. There wasn’t any strong memory or find bond recollection but Cameron could bring to mind random snippets of times past that involved the face next to his bed but much younger looking or moments in time where his mother had referred to him by name. “No, I do. I remember you a little — it wasn’t often I got to get off scot-free but whenever she was worried about you a few bumps and bruises of mine somehow got to slid so I guess I owe you one.” Although, ‘owing someone one’ for having rougher days at school, aka being bullied Cameron was sure the translation was, seemed a little off in a manner of terms. “She’s real good at that though. Patching things up. She’s going a little,” Pausing, his eyes glanced towards the door before looking back at Curtis and wiggling his finger in a circle near his temple to indicate the well known indication for ‘cuckoo’. “because this time she hasn’t been able to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, yet.” His slight laugh caused a wince to cross his features as well as make the bear he had sat on his stomach after accepting it with a thank you from Curtis, to almost topple over, Cameron catching it by it’s little bear feet to keep it in place.

Grinning at the man’s mention of Curtis’ rougher days meaning a pass for him, the mechanic nodded and offered a half-shrug. “Glad I could be of service to you back then. Can’t say it makes it all worth it, but I’m glad I could help a little.” With a slowly widening smile, Curtis scooted his seat a bit closer and returned to his slouch. He hadn’t really talked to Cameron in what felt like forever, but it was nice to know he seemed to be doing okay- present situation aside. Chuckling at Cameron’s innuendo, he offered a small round of applause when the patient caught the bear- something Curtis would have been unable to do. “I’m sure she’ll figure it out. I mean, it’s her. She figures everything out, it seems. But just some bumps and scrapes, right? Or are you faring worse than the others?”

Britt frowned in confusion. Wallflower? Was that like a flower on the wallpaper? She shook her head. Regardless, she didn’t think she was one - seeing as she was a person and all that. “I’m not. I just don’t like it when I’m the center of attention.” She glanced up at Curtis, quickly returning his smile. “Well, there’s a spot on the beach around the corner I like to sit and eat. If you’re up for it, that is.” 

“Course I’m up for it. We just stole food from a party- I think it’s fair to say I’m a loose cannon at this point and I’m up for basically everything. And I’m pretty sure this makes us TOTAL badasses.” He explained, sticking to her side until they got to the beach. “Is there anything special about this spot of yours?” He asked, glancing over at her with a small smile.

“Do you need someone to listen? Sometimes just talking into the void can help a person figure something out,” Minnie offered, “Sure.”

“I... I don’t even know.” He said with a sad chuckle, weighing in his mind if it would be worth unloading on the girl. She didn’t deserve to hear his problems, but at the same time... “What would you like? I’ll go up and ask for it.” He offered, adjusting himself in his seat.

“It’s amazing what people will let themselves ignore… let themselves believe.” Zo tilted her head, curious at his proposition. “You’d go on a trip with me? I wouldn’t mind a trip to the beach, I guess. Sketch a few things… might be nice to see some new faces as well.”

“I mean, beach or coffee shop or wherever. I’m not picky, if that’s what you’re wondering. Just here to try and help you a little bit.” He shrugged, grin in place. “Just think you deserve your own vacation.”

“What? evil? Who-who do you take me for?!” She exclaimed dramatically, placing a hand over her heart, feigning shock, though the mischievous glint in the blondes eyes was unmistakable as she looked over at her friend. Giggles bubbled out of Izzy as she watched the scene unravelling in front of her, moving forward to begin to pet the large dog behind the ears. “Aww, ya see? This is her way of showing you her support! Either that or she heard you talking shit.”

“The literal devil. One hundred percent Satan incarnate.” Curtis replied, his face nothing but serious. When Izzy began to pet his dog, Bonnet shot her a unamused look, his hands continuing to rub around his dog’s scruff and face. “Misty May probably just heard me speak the truth and this is her way of showing her support. She’s sell me out for the glimpse at a milk bone. Wouldn’t you babe?” He asked, sputtering when she began licking his cheeks. “Izzzzzzyyyy!” He whined, turning his face away as Misty continued to lick his cheek.

❝ Better start tracking down every female that works in a lab within a twenty mile radius then, huh? ❞ Flynn cocked a grin, clapping Curtis on the shoulder once again when the other gave in to laughter. That was more like it. ❝ And apparently, giving her a talking-to if she thinks she’s gonna get away with monopolizing you. I know she’s the boss of whether you get laid or not, but come on, what we’ve got is special, too. ❞ He teased, giving a little pout for effect. ❝ Just a little food for thought for future reference, that’s all. Don’t you forget it. ❞

“Leaving that to you, Flynn. You have to approve of her anyway- why get my hopes up by looking myself?” He asked, leaning over to give a small punch to Flynn’s shoulder. Laughing at the pout, Curtis shook his head and scrubbed a hand down his face. “Flynn, I treasure our conversations and could never forget them. They’re always memorable in one way or another.”
