Mike knew never to trust things that went bump in the night.. And as of late, bump in the daytime. His fingers tapped the strap of his backpack as he thought for a moment, ignoring Emily’s question. “Let’s just act natural..Make it through the halls and we can head out the back by the library.” He nodded at his plan that he thought of in his mind. He then headed to the doors, checking the halls. They were eerily quiet. He swallowed then slid out and into the hall as he made his way to the door he’d planned to go through. “So…Ever ditched before?” He asked Emily, hoping she had followed. He was too focused on his current mission to make sure she hadn’t fallen behind. He made it to the doors and pushed them open, stepping out into the sunlight. He let out a sigh of relief.

♒ ) When an answer to the question did not come, the older of the two started to feel annoyed. A complete explanation was deserved. Especially after everything that had happened to the high school senior. Yet, the young woman soundlessly followed the younger student as he started towards the hallway. The eerie silence caused a chill to run down the youth’s spine. Things were far too quiet. Sliding out in a similar fashion, lips parted so that an answer to his question could be provided. “No, I haven’t ditched before. I’ve been absent when I wasn’t really sick, but I’ve never done anything like this before.” Exiting the building, rays of sunlight beamed down. The warmth was instantly welcomed. However, a look of determination came to her face as she halted in her tracks. “We’re not going anywhere else until you tell me what’s going on. Why are you on edge?”

Mike stopped when the question was asked. He looked around just to make sure no one was around, hoping they'd have enough time for some chit-chat. He slid his hands into his pockets and met the swimmer's eyes. He shrugged, "It's nothing. That person I cancelled our plans with just kinda freaks me out a bit. I wouldn't want to do that to him again though." He said and nodded. "So that's maybe why I'm a little on edge." His eyes shifted a bit, looking around to make sure there were no teachers watching them.. Or someone else. "Look, let's just go and if you still want to talk about then we can. Can we take your car?"

The silence started to make Mike a bit awkward. He looked over to her, stopping at the shore. “So, how are things?” He asked, looking over to Mona and watching her. She looked so innocent, so lonely. He looked down and kicked at the sand lightly before turning his attention back to the lake.

Mike shrugged. “It was nobody.” He said, his voice cold and serious. “Don’t worry about it. I’m free tomorrow.” He said with a smile. “You wanna go get lunch? My treat!” The younger one suggested as he picked up his backpack, trying to get them off the subject and back onto ditching school. He was still going to do it. His eyes wandered to the door where they’d heard a noise coming from but that would be too risky at this point. “Is there another way out of here?” He asked the swimmer, turning his head away from the door and locking eyes with her.

♒ ) It sure did not seem as if the person on the other end of the conversation was nobody. The ice in his voice was too cold to miss and it only served to strengthen the older teenager’s suspicions. However, no further questioning would take place for now. A nod was given in response to the generous offer. “Yeah, lunch sounds great right now.” Especially since he would be treating. When a noise sounded from the door that they were about to walk towards, it felt as if the hairs on the back of the young adult’s neck stood up. It was something that had started to happen ever since the start of the ‘A’ attacks. Coffee eyes pierced those of the younger student. A questioning look made its way to the face of the former swim team captain. “No, there isn’t another way. If we go out of the emergency exit door, the alarms are going to go off.” Feeling as if he knew something important that pertained to what was taking place, a question was voiced. “Mike, what’s going on?”

Taking A Drive To Ravenswood | (Mike&Spencer)

It was around the time Mike should’ve been leaving to meet Spencer but Aria was being a little bit nosey this evening and he couldn’t get passed her.He texted the person he was going to meet and then Spencer. ‘I’m gonna be a little late.’ The text read. Mike declared himself tired and went up to his bedroom. He shut his door, grabbed his backpack and phone and shuck out through his window.  He ran all the way to their meeting spot where he saw a somewhat familiar car waiting just where he said they would meet. He got into the passenger seat and smiled wide, though he was a bit out of breath. “Hey! Thanks for doing this for me. I owe you big time.” The younger one buckled himself up and got himself comfortable and placed his backpack onto his lap. A thought popped into his mind and his he glanced over to Spencer. “You didn’t tell Aria what you were doing tonight, right?” He asked, his voice low and serious.  It probably wasn’t right to use one of his sister’s friends like this but he tried to shake that guilt away and just enjoy the ride while it lasted. He looked out the window as they left Rosewood..

"Who are you?" Was the only thing Mike had asked when sitting in his usual spot in his English class. He'd sat next to her dozens of times but he never really talked to her. Glancing over to the girl he gave her a sweet smile. "I'm Mike Montgomery." He said and turned his head a bit so he was looking directly at the girl.

Allison smiled at the news that she will be having someone to sit with at lunch, "Awesome, I won't be the looser sitting in the corner by herself." She said over to Mike before entering Mr. Fitz's classroom. When Mike sat down she waited for a little while to see if anyone would be taking the seat next to him. After a while Allison finally sat next to Mike with a small smile.

He kept his eyes on the clock and soon the bell rang, signaling class was to start and in walked Mr.Fitz. Mike smirked wide and leaned forward a bit, tapping his pencil against his notebook.

Secrets Can't Stay Buried Forever | (Mike&Aria)

Mike let out a sigh as he heard Aria rush over to him. He turned to face her but stayed quiet as he limbed over to the bathroom. With their mother leaving with her recent boyfriend and their father out of town on business, Aria was the one to make sure everything went smoothly while their parents were gone but she was getting really annoying in Mike’s eyes. He looked at his reflection and watched Aria. 

"I don’t have to tell you anything." Was all he said as he rolled up the ripped, blood stained jeans to examine the fresh wound. He made a disgusted look and searched the cabinets for rubbing alcohol and maybe some gauze. There wasn’t anything to help him clean the wound. He let out a sigh as he heard the soft sound of money falling from his back pocket. He turned to see Aria still standing there. "Get out of my room!" His voice raised, he went over to her and grabbed her by her arm.  His grasp around her arm was tight. He didn’t mean for it too but the pain gave him an adrenaline rush and he was both scared and angry. He threw Aria out of his room and slammed the door shut. He went back to the bathroom and picked up the money and got out a box from an old gym back he’d kept under his bed and opened the box to find his stash of money. He started counting it, quickly in hopes that aria wouldn’t let herself back into his room.  Mike eyed his backpack, the zipper was open a bit, his jacket wrapped the contents inside and his phone was laying just on top of the jacket. It lit up with a new text and Mike froze. He stopped his counting, trying to remember the amount as he went to read the text.  'Next time you won't be so lucky. Maybe someone should send tip off the cops? Do as I say or it just might be me. -A'  Fear filled Mike up to the brim. He had gotten in too deep and he just wanted out at this point but he had so many people who were depending on him. Another text came in with his first order from A and his eyes widened because it had to do with Aria… He swallowed and tears ran down his cheeks. Making a deal with the devil was something no adolescent teen boy should be doing. But it seemed to be the only way to keep his secrets from being exposed. His eyes focused back on his backpack, knowing what he had to do…

{ ϟ } — A slap to the face would’ve hurt less. Heck, being pushed out of the window of a ten story window or straight off a cliff probably would’ve been less painful than her brother keeping secrets from her again. She knew that it was unfair to pry and to dig, when she had her own secrets buried in the darkest corner of her heart, but this was her baby brother and she wanted to keep him safe—

Needed. She needed to keep him safe.

Aria watched in horror as Mike rolled up his tattered, blood-stained jeans and flinched at the sight of his cuts. She stood there, staring helplessly at him as the color drained from her already pale face.

Everything was in slow motion. Like a pathetic scene on a movie screen.

"Mike, you can’t just come home looking like that and not expect me to ask questions. Where were you?" She asked gently, desperately trying to keep her cool. "Dad left me in charge and when he gets home and hears about this—" The metallic sound of money colliding with the wooden floor caught her even more off guard.  Why did he have so much money in his back pocket? Aria was completely out of her depth. It was almost as if she was having some kind of nightmare. Perhaps a sequel to the hooded figure that had hooks for hands — Only far more realistic and nerve wracking.

"Where did you get that money? Mike, you have to talk to me!" She took a step towards him but he was already standing over her tiny body, grabbing her firmly by the arm and dragging her out of his room.

Pain kicked her flight or fight instinct into gear and she desperately fumbled to push him away. “You’re hurting me! Let me go!” She gasped, trying to keep her balance. The only other time that Mike had been violent with a member of his family was when he had accidentally hurt Ella. This wasn’t like him. Clearly, he was off his medication or something really bad was making him act out. 

His grip loosened from her arm and he quickly slammed the door in her face. Aria stumbled backwards, her eyes wide and wet with tears. 

There was a bright red mark on her arm that was already bruising into deep hues of purple and brown. She pressed down harshly on it, waiting for it to disappear and for her to finally wake up. But when the mark remained, she began to pound on his bedroom door with her fist, words spilling from her mouth in a nervous manner. “Let me back in,” She cried, not willing to give up on him. Not without a fight. 

"Talk to me. Please.”

The pounding on his bedroom door brought Mike back to reality. He locked his phone, zipped up his backpack and kicked it under his bed. He then unlocked his bedroom door and opened it but seeing his money out on his bed, he quickly shut the door again. "Wait!" He yelled to her.  'This couldn't be happening.' Mike thought, 'Why now? Everything was going according to plan and there were no problems.' His mind was racing as he collected wads of money and shoved it back into the box. He turned, holding the box as the door opened and quickly placed it under his bed.  "Come in.." He said softly, sitting himself onto his bed and trying to ignore the pain from the wound on his leg. He'd probably need stitches. He could feel blood run down his leg. He placed a hand over part of the cut and bit his lip gently, his eyes were flooding and tears were threatening to escape.  The sight of Aria made him hate himself even more. He had a moment of anger and he felt guilty about it. He didn't know what came over him, he was taking his medication, right? He couldn't even remember when the last time he had taken his medication was. "I'm sorry." He said, looking down. "I'm so sorry Aria.." He repeated and brought his hands to hide his face as his tears ran free.
