“In my amulet? In total? Nine thousand, two hundred fifty-two years, and twenty days,” Castiel answers calmly. “Give or take a few hours, accounting for the change in the axis of rotation of the planet.”

Dean has no idea what that means—rotation around what?—but he was not expecting that number.

“Ten thousand years?” he blurts. “In here?” Dean dangles the necklace, swinging it back and forth, and studying the dull blue glow coming from the—apparently empty—bottle. “Geez, that’ll give you a crick in the neck.”

Charlie offers to run one of the campaigns from the book, specifically, The Scrivener’s Tale. And Dean, giddy as a school girl, rushes off to gather his party for a good ol’ fashioned mystery.

But the game is afoot and has been since Charlie’s unannounced arrival. Between that and her awkward behavior, Dean can’t shake a familiar, nagging worry. There’s just one problem: he can’t remember what, exactly, it is about her or her behavior that’s got him on edge. And neither can anyone else.

The campaign unravels—along with Charlie’s secrets—as she tells the story of The Scrivener’s Tale.
