Core idea

Treat the core idea as a seed that you must sprout into the story. Grow it step by step, making it closer to the core. Uncomfortable characters are so appealing because we all like feeling comfortable. Characters need to go to an extreme length to retrieve what they have lost. Watching them react to new circumstances, fighting and growing is enjoyable. Try putting characters in the worst place possible for them.

The Existing Flaw

Even before the plot starts, there should be a problem in your protagonist's life or world. Once you have found your existing flaw in your core idea, craft a story that pushes it to the extreme. whatever the existing flaw , it must be clrealry related to the plot. The more these two work in tandem, the higher the emotional stakes will be and thus more invested audience.
