The CW Announces its Exciting New 2012 Fall Lineup!
Major schedule shake-ups, edgy-new shows, exciting ideas for the future, and of course, a young Carrie Bradshaw; the 2012 CW Fall Up fronts promised all of this and much, much more.
When the new President of the CW network, Mark Pedowitz, took the stage, he made it very clear that the CW is #1 when it comes to spearheading their core demo of young adults (ages 18-34) to tune in to the CW in the fall of 2012. It’s obvious that the CW executives have their finger on the pulse of today’s youth, especially when it comes to their viewing habits. It’s no secret that the CW is up against some big powerhouse networks during prime viewing times (8-10PM).
However, what makes the CW unique is that it branches out from just normal TV watching. The CW now offers next-day streaming of all their shows on www.cwtv.com. In addition they have made agreements with streaming powerhouses, such as Hulu and Netflix, to carry all seasons of their current shows. Now CW fans can watch their beloved programs whenever they want and on all the latest tech-gadgets. Pedowitz earns major points in my book for realizing and embracing the fact that the viewing habits of today's young adults are much different than those of other age groups.
The 2012 fall schedule was completely re-vamped…with one exception…CW juggernaut The Vampire Diaries will still be on Thursdays at 8PM.
Let’s start at the top of the week, shall we?
The hit show 90210 moves to Mondays, at 8PM to provide a great lead-in for Gossip Girl, which moves to 9PM. It’s time to say “bye-bye” to our favorite Upper East-siders. Pedowitz announced that season 6 will by Gossip Girl’s last hoorah. I sadly guessed this would happen to the long-running CW favorite. CW Executives recognize that Gossip Girl has a long-standing fan base who now can see how their favorite story-lines conclude. I'm just hoping that now we’ll finally learn the true identity of Gossip Girl. (Fingers Crossed).

Tuesday night marks the return of Hart of Dixie at 8PM and the new addition of Emily Owens M.D.at 9PM. Emily Owens M.D. stars Mamie Gummer, daughter of film icon Meryl Streep, as the insecure and slightly neurotic Dr. Emily Owens. She is starting her first year as an intern at Denver Memorial Hospital and she's hoping to put all of her past insecurities about being "that geeky girl" behind her and start fresh. Little does she know her childhood arch-nemesis is starting her first year at the very same hospital. Soon Emily will find out that the "real" world can be just as embarrassing as High School. Both of these lighthearted medical dramadies will prove to be a perfect match for each other.
The Wednesday line-up looks extremely promising. The CW has resurrected Supernatural from is original Friday night spot and moved it to 9PM on Wednesday. The 8PM time slot is reserved for the new thrilling show Arrow, based on the DC Comic, about a "millionaire playboy" who is lost at sea and presumed dead for five years. He mysteriously returns a changed man, wanting to make right all the wrongs he made in his past life. Under the alias of "the Arrow" he acts as a vigilante and rids Starling City of dangerous criminals and corrupt members of authority, all in hopes of righting his past mistakes. Starring new up and coming heart throb Stephen Amell (HBO's Hung, ABC's Private Practice), and the CW darling Katie Cassidy (Melrose Place, Gossip Girl). I would definitely recommend tuning into Arrow when it debuts in October.

Thursday is back with even more bite! The Vampire Diaries begins it's exciting fourth season at 8PM, leading into the new buzzed-about show Beauty and the Beast, a modern retelling of the classic fairy tale. Smallville's Kristin Kreuk stars as tough Detective Catherine Chandler, who is haunted by the murder of her Mother, which she witnessed when she was a teenager. Catherine would have perished too if she had not been saved by a mysterious "beast." Using her excellent detective skills, Catherine soon figures out the identity of her strange, beast-like Hero. Is he a beast or is he human? Tune in Thursdays at 9 to find out. I know I will.
Friday's lineup shocked me the most. The CW landmark America's Next Top Model has been moved to Fridays at 8PM, with Nikita rounding out the night at 9PM. Tyra Banks has promised an all new format for the new season of Top Model. She has developed an all new judging panel and collected a new group creative stylists and fashion experts, all in hopes of breathing new life into the aging, but still popular, show.
Onto even more exciting news... Pedowitz gave us a sneak peak at the new shows coming mid-season. The first is the twisted psychological thriller Cult, which proves that reality TV can be deadly. Using several CW stars from past and current shows, like Matt Davis from The Vampire Diaries. Cult certainly appears to be unlike any other show on television.
And finally...one of the most talked about new shows is The Carrie Diaries. "Following on the fashionable heels of Gossip Girl," The Carrie Diaries is a prequel to the powerhouse HBO television series and film franchise, Sex and the City. The Carrie Diaries features TV and style legend Carrie Bradshaw as a young high school girl, played by AnnaSophia Robb, who is dreaming of a glamorous life in Manhattan. Her wishes seem to be coming true when she's given the opportunity to intern in New York City over the summer. While in NY, Carries meets a big-wig magazine editor who opens Carrie's eyes to everything NY has to offer: culture, diversity, and most importantly fashion.
