Puma swished his tail a little, shifting where he stood. He knew Kaoru wouldn't take no for an answer this time.
"Well, it's....Being without another member of my species. I don't mind spending time with people, but....It's lonely without someone familiar. Even centaurs who are kicked out of their herds still stick together, so being alone without another centaur is....It feels like I'm going crazy."
Relationship Status: Taken {Paired for Life with Puma}
Occupations: Ousted Mare, Former member of a herd sharing land with Puma’s.
Dam (Mother): Delilah {Buckskin Gypsy Mare, 14.3 HH at whithers}
Sire (Father): Artemis {Black Gypsy Stallion, 17.2 HH at whithers}
Family/Friends: Delilah {Lead mare, Mother, Deceased}, Artemis {Lead Stallion, Father, alive}, Ebony {Lower Ranking Mare, Adoptive Mother, Alive}, Puma {Ousted Stallion, Life Partner, Alive}.
Temperament:
Aztec is outspoken, inquisitive, and friendly. She makes friends easily with anyone she tends to come across, humans included, and while she can be a little possessive of her Life Partner, Puma, at times, she is typically not one to anger easily nor have a violent temper.Â
She is very playful and once befriended, will gladly allow her friends to climb upon her back, though sometimes she can become a little too excited to play and has been known to accidentally buck people off on occasion.Â
Aztec shares a very powerful pair bond with Puma, however she tends to be the one who is usually the more dominant of the two when it comes to their relationship, which often times leads to Puma getting scolded for being standoffish to anyone new...Though of course he always comes around on his own time.
History:
Aztec was born to one of the neighboring herds to Puma’s, however she lost her mother at a very young age due to a lightening strike that occurred during a violent thunderstorm. In a stroke of luck, one of the other centaur mares in the herd had ended up losing her baby and as a result, the beautiful black-and-white centaur called Ebony ended up taking young Aztec under her wing and raising her as her own.Â
Aztec always had a tendency to wander from her herd and, on the day she turned 19 years old, she ended up bumping into Puma by chance during one of his patrols. It was love at first sight for them both, however they knew better than to court lest they both be ousted from their herds.Â
Eventually, their desire to be together outweighed their worries about the herd hierarchy and, even though they were both ousted, their bond has only grown ever stronger.Â
Now, they are happy to roam freely together, searching for just the right place to call home and, perhaps one day, start a small herd of their own.Â
“I would, but you know I’m purely vegetarian.”Â
The centaur swished his tail softly, blinking at him with a gently raised eyebrow. Kaoru’s behavior was….A little odd, in his opinion.Â
“It’s the first time I’ve seen you not wanting to eat. Is something wrong?” He inquired, cocking a hind leg as he spoke. “Or are you feeling ill?”Â
That was where the other was wrong. He didn’t deserve any help. Not one bit of it. He was disgusting. He deserved to rot away and disappear without anyone ever noticing him or his absence.
He turned his head away and didn’t respond, closing his eyes.
He just wanted to sleep so bad…maybe a little nap wouldn’t hurt..
He ended up leaning back against Puma and burying his face in his soft fur. “Just for a few minutes…please.”
“You can stay there as long as you need to. I don’t mind waiting.”Â
Puma shifted just a little to get more comfortable before settling, closing his own eyes for a moment. His flank rose and fell steadily under Kaoru, and he figured that if anyone approached he would simply tell them the other had a stomach ache and was resting.Â

“It’s the first time I’ve seen you not wanting to eat. Is something wrong?” He inquired, cocking a hind leg as he spoke. “Or are you feeling ill?”Â
…A thousand little things. Slowly his appetite had been disappearing. Slowly the anxiety had gotten so bad he got sick if he ate normally. The nightmares, the lack of sleep, the way he felt so sick all the time and no one seemed to notice a thing because he /smiled/.
How did he articulate that into words?
“I just…don’t matter, to people, and I…I’ve given up trying to change that. That’s all.”
“Well, that’s where you’re wrong. You matter to me, and I know that Hikaru would be lost without you. He loves you, Kaoru, and so do I. I know it’s not much, but believe it or not you do matter. I know that can be hard to see.”Â
Shifting a little, he sighed softly. It wasn’t easy seeing someone he’d grown attached to feeling this way, but there wasn’t much else he could do at the moment, though Puma reached out to place a hand upon Kaoru’s shoulder as he spoke.Â
“We care about you, that hasn’t changed, and if you’re feeling like this then there’s no shame in reaching out for help when you need it the most.”Â
“I would, but you know I’m purely vegetarian.”Â

“It’s the first time I’ve seen you not wanting to eat. Is something wrong?” He inquired, cocking a hind leg as he spoke. “Or are you feeling ill?”Â
“…I feel insignificant and worthless…and the more I feel it, the more I hate myself for feeling anything like this. It’s not what I’m supposed to feel. I’m selfish and terrible and sometimes I just want to throw myself off the school roof and be done with it.”
Was that what the other wanted to hear? Likely not.
“...Believe it or not, I know how you feel. I’ve also felt that way, more than I’d like to admit. But that doesn’t mean you have to go through it alone.”Â
Puma’s brow furrowed a bit with worry, though admittedly he knew exactly how the other had felt, since he’d once one through something very similar.Â
“You’re human, it’s natural to feel down sometimes, though I can’t help but wonder why you’re feeling this way now. Did something happen that caused this?”Â
“I would, but you know I’m purely vegetarian.”Â

The stallion frowned and moved to Kaoru’s side, carefully lying down beside him.Â
“That doesn’t look like nothing to me, Kaoru. What’s really going on?” He asked softly, making sure no one else was likely to hear. “I’m not the type to tell anyone else when something is wrong, and this will be no different. But perhaps I can be of some help.”Â

Puma rested his chin within his hand, one hind leg cocked as yet another pair of children was unceremoniously plopped upon his back while people chattered and took photos. Truth be told, he didn’t mind the children, but being forced to stand in a small booth with western decor, a heavy saddle cinched tightly around his back as though he was some sort of prop for photos, that was something he’d had to get used to.Â
Soft blue eyes stared boredly at the cameras pointed his way, the kids laughing and bouncing in the saddle which caused him to become even more irritated than before, his tail giving a warning swish. Of course they didn’t know any better, but after doing this hundreds of times, his back muscles were aching and the constant pressure was making the centaur even more uncomfortable.Â
Still, he stood there, shifting his weight and swishing his tail a little more, though it seemed nobody was paying enough attention to see just how sore and painful he really was. Soon enough, even adults were hauling themselves up upon him to get their pictures taken, the humans running the show smiling away as they pocketed each payment without any regard for how Puma might have felt.Â
Truth be told, all he wanted was to go back to his stall, where nobody would touch him or try to get into his space, all he wanted was to go and lie down, and yet there he stood, patiently waiting for it all to end just so he could finally be left alone, if only for a couple of hours before the next round of this torment began.Â
“What are you doing all the way out here in the middle of the night? And in the beginning of winter no less? You’re going to get yourself killed out here.”Â
The centaur’s stern voice cut through the silence like a hot knife through butter, even the crickets weren’t as active as they would have been in the warmer weather. Swishing his tail, he raised an eyebrow at the other, arms crossed over his chest.Â
It was by an old abandoned cabin that he finally stopped, tail swishing slightly as he paused to look around. With winter approaching fast, and food beginning to dwindle, the herd’s numbers had decreased in size before the season had even begun. The summer had been unusually dry and the rainy season in the fall had been all but gone, leaving many to disappear from lack of food.Â
While still on high alert, Puma noticed something at the edge of the cabin that looked almost like someone had been here earlier, searching for something. Likely the hoof prints of some of the younger outcast studs in the area that were also trying to find enough food to survive the winter season.Â
Hearing a few branches and twigs snapping nearby had him on high alert, the centaur stopping as his tail raised slightly, head turning in the direction of the sound.Â
“I hear you back there. You can come out now.” He called out, his breath showing in the crisp, cool air. Whoever was out there, they didn’t particularly sound like a huge threat for the moment.Â
Puma was exhausted, sides violently heaving as he lay on the cold, wet forest floor. His herd had moved on long ago after a violent encounter with a little herd of other centaurs. Puma, just like always, had instantly charged in to protect his family, resulting in the male gaining a broken hip and being unable to keep up with his fleeing herd and being left behind to suffer through it alone.Â
Having traveled for hours, barely able to support himself on just three legs, he had finally collapsed from a mixture of pain and complete exhaustion, unable to do anything but lie there and wait for whatever fate ended up befalling him.Â
