Working in the studio is like building a ship in a bottle. Playing live is like being on a rowboat in the ocean.

LIKE FISH
This one’s inspired by something my Big Mama used to say…
LIKE FISH ©️ 2026 G. Smith (BMI) ~====||====~ Just got the news, Family’s coming, And my bride is busy, Her kitchen is humming.
With a couple of pallets, We’ll have enough beds, For everyone to, Rest their road weary heads.
I’ll sweep porch, And I’ll the grass, Won’t be long till, They’re here at last.
And I love to see this headlights in the drive. I love to see those headlights in the drive, Telling me the family has, Finally arrived. I love to see those headlights in the drive.
We took the kids fishing, But not for long, Before they’ve started singing, Their “I’m hungry” song.
They used all the hot water, Drank all of the milk, Which wouldn’t be bad if So much hadn’t been spilt.
They left all the lights on, Slammed the screen door, Got the dogs barking, And tracked mud ‘cross the floor.
And after they’ve been here a couple of days, After they’ve been here a couple of days, It’s good to finally see, Those taillights driving away, After they’ve been here a couple of days.
Yeah, I love them all dearly, But I have to say, It’s good to finally see those taillights, Driving away.

WEDNESDAY’S WEEKLY POETRY PROMPTS: 7/29/26 ~ BACK-ROW BAPTIST BLUES
BACK-ROW BAPTIST BLUES ©️ 2026 G. Smith (BMI) =========||========= Woke up this morning, Hungover from the booze. Woke up this morning, Hungover from the booze. My baby said, “It’s Sunday,” Time to pay my Saturday dues.
Are those church bells that’re ringing, Or is it just my ears? Are those church bells that’re ringing? Or is it just my ears? Is that a choir that’s a-singing? Or is it angels that I hear?
Preacher pounds the pulpit, Feels like the pounding in my head. Preacher pounds the pulpit, Feels like the pounding in my head. Thought he was talking right to me, But I can’t recall a word he said.
I may have dozed off for a minute, But my baby nudged me with the plate. I may of dozed off for a minute, But my baby nudged me with the plate. Whispered, “Maybe this’ll teach you, “Not to stay out so dang late.”
Woke up this morning, Hungover from the booze. Woke up this morning, Hungover from the booze. Saturday night turned to Sunday morning, And I’ve got these back-row Baptist blues.
