Sagamore and Bourne bridges under construction. Both bridges were built as part of the Public Works Administration created in response to the Great Depression. They are the only two bridges crossing the Cape Cod Canal to connect Cape Cod to mainland Massachusetts. Bourne bridge had also won the American Institute of Steel Construction award for the "Most Beautiful Steel Bridge".

Nadar, mostly known for his photographs, was also a balloonist. He famously created "Le Geant" ("The Giant"), a hot air balloon built to accommodate 43 people, with 6 rooms and restroom facilities, which attracted huge crowds as it moved between cities in Western Europe, leading to the mayor of Brussels employing crowd control barriers, hence called Nadar barriers, much to the displeasure of the balloonist: "You must understand how irksome it is... to be perpetually considered as the sponsor of a barrier, and especially for someone who's always been opposed to the use of barriers".

Kowloon Walled City remained part of China after Hong Kong was ceded to the British Empire in 1842, then just a small fort – due to this a defensive wall was built in 1847, hence the name Walled City

Fire at Hong Kong's Happy Valley Racecourse, opened in 1846 and still operating today. The fire had claimed 614 lives; the victims were buried in So Kon Po, but remains later transported to the south of the island to clear space for the construction of the Hong Kong Stadium in 1953.

The Green March, a strategic demonstration organised by the Moroccan government in order to force Spain to hand over the area now known as Western Sahara. The march had 350 000 participants and took place in Tarfaya on 6th November.
