like it’s hard to overstate how much sophie’s passing means. sophie was a literal musical genius and an icon for trans and queer people. imagine being just 34 and you’ve released one critically acclaimed album, sixteen singles, and produced for madonna, kanye west, charli xcx, lady gaga, and a host of other stars - and you’re still underground. that’s incredible. imagine “bending music production so far that things stop sound like synths and start sounding like physical materials”. sophie was a visionary and laid the foundation of hyperpop and pc music, and the pop/musical landscape of the decade would honestly not have sounded the same without sophie. sophie was the blueprint! sophie inspired so many lgbtq+ people to become comfortable with themselves and to come out and live unapologetically. it’s so upsetting and such a loss.
