Canberra photographer
These days if you want to become a professional photographer you no longer need thousands of dollars worth of expensive equipment. In fact, anyone with a good smartphone can use an Instagram filter to post professional looking photos all over the internet.
When the lines between professional and amateur are so blurred what characteristics can we use to define the former? After all anyone can take hundreds of photos at a wedding (for example) and get a few really good shots, but a professional won’t be relying on luck.
When you are looking for a professional Canberra photographer, there are three main things to look out for.
Awards/qualifications – Obviously A professional photographer doesn’t necessarily need to have studied formally but it makes a significant difference. If formal qualifications are important to you might want to check if the photographer is accredited by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). You can also ask if they have won or been nominated for any awards. This shows a higher level of commitment to their art.
Areas of expertise – Most professional photographers have a business website where you can find a portfolio. This will give you some insight into their area(s) of expertise.Of course, there are many skilled generalist photographers as well.
Creativity – This characteristic can be difficult to measure, but the most obvious way for you to assess this is during an initial consultation. You want someone who uses their experience and knowledge to improve your ideas instead of only taking direction.
