Inanimate objects don't become darkeners if they're contained inside someones inventory. This includes inventory that isn't apparent to us, like Kris' increasingly large collection of pencils. Some objects become equipment, but others clearly remain more or less as they were- see the cellphone. And in fact, papers seem to transfer into a world p easily(see Asgore's notes, books)

so

1: all jokes aside, you probably could bring in homework to the dark world so long as you kept it in a pocket. However we now know the words would become mixed up, so that's a different problem.

2: berdly's stupid feather is once again a surprisingly load bearing example of Weird Fucking Fringe Mechanics. In this case it lets us know said objects remain inert objects on transferal.
