If I look at the final sequence of thiis chapter, this is what I would like for it to looks like if I had to finish the prject. I’m also really happy that it was mostly finished on Krita and I’m no more dependent to Adobe to work at the same speed as I use to.
So, why do I choose to give up this project now?
If I look over the past five years, I may have only draw and paint for myself around one month a year at full time and even if I don’t have a precise count, I know that I’ve spend around 1 day per page of this comics. So at this rate, if I had to finish it, il would probably take me 10 years, only working on this. And I wouldn’t! It took me 5 years to spend around 20 days on it!
Sure, I could force myself into it, but I’ve no reason to so I prefer give it up.
See ya Leo!

I tried to get back twice on this project.
The first time in 2018; If I was still happy with the script, It was clear to me that I should gave up a lot of the animation if I wanted it to be finished some day. I wasn’t committed to animation and visual art in general as much as when I tough of this project. So I started to think the project as something that should work with a simplest animation, or even without it. I started rethink the train station scene. However, I couldn’t find a way to do the same with the work already done. At the same time I decided to stop working in animation industry for a while. The project was buried in my HDD for two more years.
Then in 2020 I stumbled upon it once again: I was really happy with the work I did back in 2018, not at all with the rest. But it was winter, I wanted to paint a bit and I didn’t really had anything better to do so I decide to finish everything that wasn’t already started. Then spring came, COVID too and I forgot about it.

I said that I was turning it into a web comics, but I was planning on animating most of it, which would have result more to a scroll down movie than a comics. This intention motivated most of the artistic and technical choices.
As it would have mean a lot of time for animation It led me to be as simple as possible. One or two background max per scene, with as much recycling as possible. Background had to be treated as animation background so they could be easily use in compositing. Lights had to be be separated from the rest so it would have been easy to project animated characters shadows.
Posings, text and FX were supposed to be more space holders than final, as they would have been replaced by animation. I was not sure if I was going for traditional animation or for vectorial animation. At that time, I had access to animation studio pro at CS and started working on a rig for the main character. The result was interesting but I really didn’t like animating in that software: it felt like animating in 3D, which I really dislike. At that moment, I decided to put the project on stand-by.

This year I decided to get rid of a few “Endless W.I.P.” projects; projects that are taking place on my (physical and mental) hard drives, but I dont have enough motivation or time to finish. However some of them are advanced enough so they may be interesting to share. This is one of them.
It started in 2014. Back in the day I started working on “the breadwinner” at Cartoon saloon. I took a writing class there, in which I wrote a story named “An eastern sketchbook”.
I was happy enough with the script to turn it into a web comics project. It was supposed to be cut into 12 episodes of around 20 pages. Once I had a skeleton for all the episodes, I started working on the first chapter.

I’m focusing mostly on activity related to the association my partner and I created few years ago. As drawing and animation are becoming a very small part it, I’m not planning to post anything on this tumblr for a while.
However, you can follow this adventure here if you’re interested:
in french https://eseeos.fr/
or in english https://eseeos.fr/en
It would honestly be so amazing if we could see more of the layout for the breadwinner!
I was mainly in charge of the scenes inside of the house so it may seems a bit redundant if I post more of my own work. However, you could found more on my co-workers blogs.
Julien already post some of his own works here:
https://www.julienregnard.com/the-breadwinner
I’m not sure Rikke and Rory did, but you can still check here:

I finally asked for the autorisation to use some of my work on “The breadwinner” for my portfolio. This is a part of the job I did as a layout artist
I just released “Piou”, the game prototype I was woking on this week, on itch.io.
It’s playable on line
I just finished my first week as a newbie game designer and developer and this is my first prototype.
I made it with unity in about 100hours for the “one ressource jam 2017″.

The official trailer of the feature film I’ve been working on last year at cartoon saloon is online!
It was a great experience and I learn a lot during that time working next to such brilliant artists.
I hope you’ll enjoy it!
Here are some pieces of the work I did this summer on the pilot of “Eddie of the realm eternal“ at CartoonSaloon. I worked on it as visDev and color artist.I’ll try too post more stuff soon.
Up up up!
