Three Written Loves Chapter 8

Oh God he actually did it. The pen in his hand shook with his nerves. V had been moderating Ro’s excitement but Ro didn’t seem to be contained. He could hear the twins bickering about something. He didn’t know what yet though. He hadn’t said much really. It was so much.

Patton took a deep breath and set the book aside. Okay, they don’t seem to be angry at him at least. He hadn’t had a chance to explain himself though. He still felt guilty. He pressed his hands to his eyes. It’s so much so soon. He jumped as the door to the room opened.

“Scare you?” Roman asked. “No! Just startled,” he looked away slightly. “Alright, well I was checking on your ankle it’s been a little while.” “Oh,” Patton carefully rolled it with a small wince, “it still hurts and is a little swollen still…” he answered honestly. “Yeah, it’ll be sore for a while. Speaking of, what happened? I don’t remember being told.” “I just tripped on a root,” he answered with a small shrug. It wasn’t really a lie. He was just ommitting why he tripped on the root. “Ah, yes, the enemies of mankind: Roots,” Roman joked some, lightening up the atmosphere. Patton giggled and held his book close, “uhm, what were you and Remus fighting about?” He huffed and put his hands on his hips, “the usual. He wants to go see his soulmate at his job and wants information on mine. Nothing new.” “Oh wow. Why can’t he see him?” “Because his soulmate asked him not to if he goes alone. It always gets him in trouble,” Roman sighed and shook his head. “Ah,” he looked away again. “Anyway, how’s it going with your soulmates?” Roman sat next to Patton, “mom’s on her way with food.” “It’s… a lot,” he held on tighter to the book. “They do anything to hurt you?” Roman asked with a small flame of protectiveness in his look. “No! Oh no! They’ve just been rather overwhelming with things,” he shook his head as he talked. “Alright,” Roman calms slightly, “do you want to eat at the table with us? If not I can bring you the food instead” “I want to try,” Patton answered. He was rather nervous about it though as he moved to get up. Roman helped him up out of the bed, “it’ll be okay. I mean, we’ll probably be loud and Remus is well… Remus but you can always come back here,” Roman promised. “Thank you,” Patton let himself be led to the table.

Logan put up his notebook after he read their responses. Re would just have to pout. There were more important things to discuss than the round and round with his soulmates. He set it aside with a soft sigh. He looked over to his brother who was still writing to his soulmates, “are they still anxious?” “Yeah, but they’re better than earlier. I got Ro to calm down.” “That’s good. However, you should let them know you’re at dinner.” “Yeah, yeah,” Virgil wrote the quick excuse and something else before setting his book aside with a slow exhale. “How are you feeling?” “Overwhelmed,” Virgil sighed and his shoulders dropped. “That’s how you felt meeting Ro as well,” Logan reminded him. “I know,” he almost huffed out, “but now I’m being mediator which is even worse.” “They will be okay,” Logan reminded him. “I know…” “Mhm, now we need to figure out what to eat. From there we should discuss what we will be doing when we get there.” Virgil groaned, “can’t we just get there first?” “No,” Logan picked up the menu, “it’ll be two am when we get there. We don’t have any beds or mattresses in there yet either.” “Ugh. Can we just get a hotel for the night then?” “I can attempt to do so,” Logan stated, “I’ll call as you drive.” “I have to drive?” “Yes, that was what we agreed on earlier.” “Ugh, fine,” Virgil paused a moment, “wait, attempt? What if you can’t?” “Then we will have to sleep on the floor for a night,” Logan gave a small shrug in response. “Okay,” he grabbed his own menu to flip through.

Re: Awwwww ttyl gay bitches Logan shook his head fondly as he stepped up to the counter to pay for their snacks. Well Virgil’s snacks and energy drinks and his own water and gatorade. It was getting rather close to dinner so he didn’t want to spoil his dinner with a snack. He would need the water and gatorade to stay hydrated as well.

He walked to the car once everything was paid for. They were almost free. They were so close. Their family would never know where they were. He sighed before sliding into the driver’s side. He handed Virgil the bag before buckling his own seatbelt. “Is something wrong?” “Yeah?! No?!” “Take some deep breaths Virgil,” Logan instructed, watching his brother do so, “now would you like to explain what’s going on?” “I have another soulmate.” “Other than ‘Ro’?” “Other than Ro. He just said hi! Ro’s overwhelming him and-” “You’re thinking of worst case scenarios again?” Logan slightly teases his brother while pulling out onto the road. “Of course! Why haven’t they written before? Are they still in danger?” “Virgil,” Logan warned, noticing his brother spiraling. “I know, I know.” “They will explain in due time. For now I would suggest making them feel welcome.” “Yeah. I’ll try to calm the situation,” Virgil let out a deeper exhale, “want your Gatorade or water first?” “Water. Also you may want to look ahead for what may be appetizing for dinner. Preferably some place we can eat inside.” “Okay. In a minute.” “Alright,” Logan confirmed before starting their roadtrip playlist. Virgil had spent a while on it and it should perfectly line up with when they get there if not a few seconds off. It had been an interesting blend of their differing music tastes.

Logan would often ask Virgil if he wanted to go into the more musical field. It usually ended in a splutter and a denial. He had seen it himself, Virgil’s guitar, the cds, the playlists. He was more musically inclined than Logan was, and he would give anyone hell that squashed Virgil’s dreams. Well that’s part of the reason they were here now. 

Their parents didn’t believe in anything that wasn’t profitable 100% of the time. They never had any hobbies. They forbade hobbies for their sons. Logan was able to get Virgil to do some hobbies where he had joined a band. Logan had been so proud to know they were going very far with it, then one of the members had to move away. It crushed Virgil’s heart but Logan knew that Virgil would find another group and grow just as close as before.

Virgil had picked up other hobbies but none of them stuck as well. Logan supported him in each of them and made sure their parents never found out about it. It often ended in more “punishments” but it was always worth it to see the light in his brother’s eyes and smile. His own had been dimmed a long time ago.

He set a hand on his left shoulder for a moment with a wince at the memory before exhaling slowly. No need to reminisce of something he never had. They’d be much stronger now. They’d be safer. He could finally rest with no worries or fears for whenever their parents woke up next. Just a few more hours in the car. It’d be worth it.

This Is My Nightmare

Virgil shot up in bed with a sob. Oh it all felt so real. The phantom feeling of his lover’s lips, the whispered I love yous, the gentle dates they used to share. He shook his head vigorously to shake the feeling as he drug himself out of bed to the mirror. He passed the piles of clothes and the boxes that held all of /his/ things. 

He shakily looked in the mirror. Roman would’ve hated to see this side of him. They had worked through most of this. His face suken in from a while of not eating, his paler skin from not going outside and facing the sun or their friends, and the deepening dark circles under his eyes from not sleeping. He shook his head with a soft sigh before splashing his face with cold water. 

Virgil turned off the water and glanced at the mirror once more. Startled at the figure behind him in the mirror, he scrambled back into the door while he looked where the figure had once stood. There was no one there. He could’ve sworn that a figure in a rather silly looking shirt was standing there. He recognized the shirt though, now that he had a moment to think. It was one of Roman’s. The black shirt with a gold crown on it and the silly stupid saying of “Best King” on it. It was one of Roman’s favorites even if it got glitter everywhere. 

Virgil rushed over to the box that held that specific shirt and quickly grabbed it. It was the last shirt Roman wore. It still had the rips. He couldn’t even look at it, let alone try to fix it. It was here. So how was that person wearing it? He shook his head once more with a shaky sigh and put the shirt back up. It was probably a trick of the imagination, but why did the figure look so sad? Roman was never that sad. Overwhelmed? Yeah. Scared? Yeah. But that sad? Never. He yawned and headed to the kitchen, hoping to at least eat something today. It was difficult with so many memories of Roman everywhere. Cuddling on the couch while Roman made fun of whatever was on the TV. Swinging dances in the kitchen as Roman made food for them. Passing kisses in doorways. Oh it all hurt so much still and made it difficult to leave let alone eat. 

He was able to grab a poptart though as he scrolled through the endless texts from the others. They were all worried about him. He knew they were. He just couldn’t look at the pity on their faces. He does chuckle at Patton’s threat of breaking into his house though with a mouthful of poptarts. Patton would never. Well he would show up but he doubted that he’d break in. Now Remus? Or Janus? Yeah. He’d be a bit more scared of that. He doesn’t need to fix yet another broken thing. He’s broken plent of things purely by accident. A vase, a picture, plates, glasses. Thankfully none of it was Roman’s. He didn’t think he could ever forgive himself if he broke anything of Roman’s. He froze at the sound of static and the sudden overwhelming scent of Roman. He didn’t leave anything on and he didn’t have anything left that strong. What the hell? Maybe just another hallucination. He tears up though at a text from Remus from a few days ago. He shook his head at the reminder that this wasn’t his fault and there was nothing he could’ve done. He knew. Logically there was nothing he could’ve done. He was asleep at the time. He didn’t even know that Roman left. But it didn’t stop him feeling guilty. Virgil pulled a pillow closer to hug it with another shaky sigh. When did this get easier? He just wanted to still crawl in a hole and never wake again. At least in his dreams he was still with Roman, in his arms, able to laugh and hold him once more. What he would give to have Roman back. He moved to turn on some music to drown out the always present silence lingering now. He missed the loud obnoxious Disney music Roman always had to sing in the mornings. He couldn’t listen to that. So instead he pulled up something more emo and fitting of the vibe. He slowly relaxed as the music started.

Virgil mumbled along as he attempted to clean up the poptart mess. He should probably do more cleaning but he didn’t know how much he could handle.

“Every time I close my eyes I dream that you're still here

If it wasn’t so loud he would’ve passed it off as yet another grieving hallucination. The very soft but still somehow audible over his music, “but I’m still here.” The honeyed tone he knew ao well and loved. He whirled around to find the source, hoping to see Roman there and okay even if he did see the body in the coffin.

“Roman?”

Janus Gets a Baby

This is just fluff of Janus getting a baby. The baby is just a random oc with a random name. Three other sides get mentioned but no ships

Janus cooed at the bundle in his arms. Oh had it been so long since he had a smaller one to take care of. It was only temporary, said the twins. They had done something, Janus didn’t care what, and caused this small bundle of joy into his life. The little one babbled back to him as he gently rocked them side to side.

He bristled at hearing someone walk up to his door, however. He had an image to uphold but the little one didn’t deserve such cruelty. He sighed heavily but continued to rock the child to sleep before calling to the side outside his door, “what do you want?”

“Just checking on you. Twins found a construct to give the baby to that will take care of it,” the other stated, “they’re gonna come by in a bit.”

“Thanks for the warning,” Janus stated rather dryly. He didn’t want to give the baby up just yet. The person retreated down the hall once more. He sighed softly but nuzzled the sleeping baby one more time and hummed the small lullaby he had made for the child after the first four days it had been in his arms. 

Did he really have to let go of her? Did he have to let yet another child of his go? He desperately wanted to keep her but knew he’d never be able to handle the aftermath of that action. He sighed softly but whispered a soft, “goodbye little Rosalynn.”

It had been a few days since the baby had been taken. The hollow empty feeling never got any easier. If he could help it Janus stayed out of his room. He couldn’t look at the hole where the cradle had been. He missed her dearly.

Which was probably what made it easier for him to hear the hushed talking of the twins and the cry of a baby. He perked up at the crying. What were they doing in there? Did they bring her back? 

Well, it didn’t take too long before Remus raced up to him. He was sipping on some drink at the time but he turned to see the chaotic twin thrusting the bundle to him. “Watch it,” Janus hissed out dangerously as he carefully held the bundle in his arms. He cautiously moved the blankets out of his baby’s face with a small fond smile.

The baby ceased crying and reached up to Janus’ face. “Yes, little one. It’s me again. Giving them a hard time?” He teases the child in his arms but turned to walk back to his room while rocking her gently.

“How long has it been since you slept?” He fussed, ignoring the twins gaping behind him. Janus sat in his chair for a moment with a small smile, “well no worries little Rosalynn. I have you now.” He started humming the lullaby once more as he rocked them. It took no time for Rosalynn to fall asleep in his arms once more. He wasn’t letting them take her away from him again.

The entire ride Patton had been doodling little hearts near Roman’s more finished pieces. He tried to ignore the twin’s bickering and the writing from the purple writing. He was still very anxious to say anything to them just yet. However, his thoughts were quickly interrupted by being picked up once more.

Patton yelped in surprise and quickly latched onto the twin that picked him up. He huffed at both twin’s laughter. “That’s not funny.”

“It is a little funny,” Roman teased a little as he walked them both inside, “again Remus has your stuff, aside from the notebook that is.”

“No, not yet,” Patton answered honestly.

Patton blushed a little at the teasing tone of his notebook, “yeah..”

“Do your soulmates know?”

“You’re welcome!” Roman flourished before setting Patton down on what would become his bed, “I’ll be right back! Make sure to tell your soulmates!” He yelled while leaving the room.

“You should probably tell them.”

“I will.”

“Good. I’ll set you down in bed then get you some ice and medication for your ankle. When mama gets home I’ll have her check out your ankle just in case. Good?”

“Yeah. That’s wonderful. Thank you.”

Patton sighed softly and watched the current ink, waiting for a response from Roman to appear.

Ro: I just saw! Yeah I was driving me, my brother, and my new friend home. I’m getting them an icepack at the moment

V: Ice pack?

Ro: Yeah, looks like a sprained ankle. Dunno where they got it from tho which is worrying. Going to get mom to check it out later

V: Damn. Hopefully it’ll be alright

Ro: I’m sure it will be. I just want to know more about our mystery third and when I could find out where you’re goin

V: When they’re ready they’ll talk to us and I’ll get there when I get there and I can’t tell ya that princey. You gotta guess

Ro: Dumb rules. Homophobic if you ask me

V: Pretty sure it’s the same rules for everyone

Ro: Still homophobic

V: Whatever you say. You go take care of your guest. I’m not going anywhere

Ro: Will do! Will also keep you updated!

V: You better. Ttyl princey

Their conversation ended with a small red heart. Patton smiled at the small red heart just as Roman walked in.

“Sorry for taking so long. Didn’t want to worry my soulmate anymore than I already had,” Roman explained before moving to help elevate Patton’s ankle and set the ice carefully ontop of the ankle.

“It’s okay. I completely understand,” Patton’s tone took a fond note as he held his book close before his fond smile dropped to something sadder.

“You didn’t talk to them did you?” 

“No… I never had…”

“Why?”

“Just… family,” Patton’s shoulders dropped some as his grip tightened.

Patton took a deep breath but flipped to the back. The blank page glared at him but with another deep breath he doodled a small paw print.

“Well I don’t think that should stop you now. They’re probably very worried about you.”

“If they think I exist.”

“I’m sure they do. At least attempt? Even if it’s a simple hi?”

“Can I just doodle instead?”

“Sure! Just try it. I have to go do a few things. You’ll be okay here?”

“Yeah. Thanks Ro.”

“You’re welcome! I’ll check on you soon!” Roman smiled at him before leaving him alone once more.

Ro: V! V! V!

V: What? Ro: Did you see it yet?

V: See what? I’ve been a little busy

Ro: We do have another soulmate!

V: What?

Ro: Yeah! Remember when I wouldn’t stop drawing on one of the pages

V: I think so

Ro: Go look!

V: Okay okay. One sec

Ro: I await with bated breath

V: Oh hush

Ro: Never

V: Wait. No. Holy shit

Ro: I know right?! We have a third!

V: Okay so what do we do

Ro: HI NEW PERSON

V: NO! Not that!

Ro: What? I’m just greeting them

V: That might overwhelm them

Ro: Oh riiight

Ro: I can hear your sigh from here

V: Shush. Do you think they can respond now?

Ro: I don’t know but Imma doodle something for them to place more hearts near

V: Okay you do that princey. I’ll look back later. I gotta drive while my brother makes a call

Ro: Okay Count Woelof. I shall talk with you soon then

V: Bye Princey

Ro: Goodbyyee

Patton was now panicking. He thought it would take them longer than that to find out he even wrote to them. Did Roman know? Was Roman even his soulmate? He fiddled with the pen as he watched the artistry come to life. One of the drawings looked like Roman in a prince suit holding someone else. He couldn’t tell who it was but maybe that was the point of it. It was still beautiful but he wasn’t ready just yet to write to them. He wanted to have a bit more confidence in what to say. He didn’t know what to say. Did he introduce himself? Did he just go as far back in the book as he could and vent out everything to why he couldn’t talk to them and that he understood if they didn’t want to talk to him? He was spiraling in his last class and he had no idea how to stop it.

He shut the book and put it away. He tried to resist the pull to bring it back out and look at the art on the pages. A few more minutes and he would be meeting Roman at J wing. A few more minutes and he’d get to go to a house, take a shower, maybe eat a nice meal, and talk with a new friend. Patton takes a deep breath and slowly exhales. He tries to focus on the lesson but couldn’t help the pull back to his soulmates. 

Would they be afraid? Will they be accepting? He hoped so. Then his thoughts drifted to a sort of dance with Roman. The dance is reminiscent of the art he saw in the book. A soft gentle tune carried by the soft breeze against their skin. A soft flitting laugh as he’s dipped gently and smiling at their other partner watching them on the blanket before getting up. 

And- the bell ringing snaps Patton out of his daydream violently. He shivers at the loss of his daydream but he gets up anyway. He walks over to J wing where he was supposed to meet Roman. And Roman’s brother? He didn’t realize Roman had a brother. Patton walked quickly so he wasn’t late to meet them. It took him a few minutes to get there but he didn’t see Roman. Did he leave without him? 

No. That answer came clear as day when someone charged at him and stood a few centimeters away from himself with a grin from ear to ear. Someone else’s thundering footsteps not far behind but they stopped a bit further away with ragged breathing from running. Patton slowly leaned away from the person in his face as they turned to look at the other person, grin still ever present. “Now come on Roturd it wasn’t even that far of a run,” the stranger cackles. Roman’s breathing was still coming out a bit harsher, “I.. had to... chase you… around the entirety... of E block!” “See not that far!” The other teases Roman and moves out of reach when Roman moves to swipe at them, cackling all the while.

“Uhm…” Patton starts while looking at Roman for an explanation who holds a finger up for a second. When he’s ready Roman stands back up and moves to tame his hair, “this is my twin brother, and pain in the ass, Remus.” Remus licks his hand and swipes it up Patton’s arm, who screeches and jumps away. “I should’ve warned you beforehand,” Roman sighs heavily, “anyway he’ll be in the back seat. Do you have everything you need?” “Not really… It’s all hidden in the woods though,” Patton looked over sorrowfully from where he emerged just this morning. “I’ll have Remus get it for you. I got you an ice pack from the nurse,” he pulls the ice pack out of the bag and hands it to Patton.

“What is this for?” “Oh, your ankle is swollen,” Roman interrupts Remus’s dirty joke and shoos him off to go get the bags. Patton glanced down at it and shrugged slightly, “I didn’t even notice. Thank you.” “You’re welcome. Would you like me to carry you to the car?” “You really don’t have to do that for me.” “I know but I would like to if you’ll let me. You really shouldn’t be putting any weight on that ankle anyway,” Roman explained gently.

“Oh. Well sure?” Patton tentatively answered before a small shout of surprise at being lifted with ease. He quickly clung onto Roman who was laughing fondly at him.

“Didn’t think I could do it?” Roman teased. “Yeah…” “Well I can! Obviously. To the car!” Roman declared and walked over to the car where Remus was waiting impatiently. “Took you long enough!” “I swear you’re not human,” Roman huffed at his brother before setting Patton down next to the door.

“You’ll never know,” Remus stuck his tongue out at his brother before he climbed into the back seat with all of Patton’s things.

Roman sighed and shook his head, “he’ll leave us alone when we get home,” he opened the door for Patton, ignoring Remus’ maniacal giggling in the back. Patton gave him a small thankful nod and climbed into the passenger seat.

Remus snickered and hit Patton’s shoulder with a book, “this seems important,” he teased. Patton snatched his soulbook from Remus’ hands and held it close. Remus couldn’t see into it of course but he still didn’t want anyone to touch it.

“Everything okay?” Roman asked when he got in the driver’s seat.

“Yeah!” Patton piped up a bit too chipperly. Remus only laughed.

“Alright? Homeward bound!”

Ticking Time

Roman had enough with everything. His ideas weren’t cutting it. Everything he knew had been tilted on its axis over and over. He was silenced quite often and made fun of. He had to apologize to everyone but no one had to apologize to him. He sighed and placed his head in his arms. 

Everyone had just assumed he had hit a creative block and he had to some extent. Nothing felt interesting or good enough anymore. The once vibrant red of his sash was now a muted grey. Usually, he would be upset by that but now he just felt nothing, numb. He looked over at the door to the imagination. It wasn’t just his but it was better than his slowly greying room. There it would be bright. Didn’t Logan say something about sunlight helping with depression? He couldn’t remember and he could feel himself caring less and less about it. He stood from his desk and stepped into the imagination. 

Usually even just stepping inside made him feel better. Usually his horse Merida was there to greet him. There was nothing vibrant or lifelike in his realm. The forest was alive as usual with Remus’ creatures. Each creature curses and spits at seeing him. Right, they’d get out eventually. Why didn’t he care though? The people weren’t real. There wasn’t even anyone there to protect anyway. The streets were barren and there were no bright colors in what he created. There were no decorations for some sort of festival. The town’s buildings were crumbling and slowly wasting away to become nothing but rubble. Even the castle seemed in ruins but not from a war, from time. 

Roman stepped inside and the doors shut behind him firmly. He sighed at it and looked up at the tapestry behind the throne. It seemed faded and the picture was no longer decipherable. He sits at the throne and lounges a moment. He listens to the creaking, breaking, dripping. His head hits the back of the throne but no sound escapes him. He looks to the side with a heavy breath. He feels like he’s drowning but there was nothing there. He didn’t feel panicked though. He felt strangely calm. Did it just feel like a suffocating hug? Roman couldn’t tell. He moved his hand in a circle to conjure something but nothing appeared. He looked up once more before he felt the gentle dripping of water. He put a hand to his face and wiped some tears away. Why was he crying? He wasn’t sad. He wasn’t feeling anything really. The tears didn’t even make it to the ground, blowing away as ash after it left his face.

He just sat on his throne and looked out across the empty throne room. It wasn’t comforting but it wasn’t haunting him either. It was a weird place to be. He looked up at the timer on the castle wall. It started and was just going up, ah, that’s what it was for. He hoped he could get out of this alone but he highly doubted it. He glances again at the clock. How long would it take for the others to notice? A day? A few days? A week? He highly doubted it but he didn’t hope for any less.

A week had passed and no one had heard from Roman at all. While this wasn’t too much of a surprise considering his romps in the imagination, it was odd that no one was told, and that there was no influence by Roman. Every idea Thomas seemed to have came from Remus. Patton and Virgil had been working overtime to keep Thomas from actually streaking through his neighborhood, or hitting his friends with the fake morning star, or even doing dangerous stunts. Some were a bit more concerned than others but it was taking a toll on everyone. There were no new videos since all ideas came from a less than spectacular source. 

Virgil sighed heavily with his headphones blasting his playlist. Where the hell was Roman? He grunted at a sudden pressure on his stomach and peeled his eyes open to see who it was. He groaned when meeting a certain side’s eyes. “Remus,” he groaned out, “get off.” “No thanks! I know you feel it too!” “Feel what you insufferable prick?” “Oooh, nice one but sadly I’m not talking about a boner this time.” “Gross. Get off.” “No. You know something’s wrong too.” “I always feel like something’s wrong. Now get off!” Virgil moved to throw him off which barely even budged Remus an inch.

“Just look!” Remus pulled out a clock in a circling green and grey pattern.

Virgil looked at it with confusion, “uh-huh? What about it? It’s a clock? It’s the wrong time but nothing seems off about it.” “That’s the thing! Ever since the split it’s been red and green and broken. Now it’s green and grey and working. Something’s off with Robro and you’re the only one in this stuffy pile of horse shit that gives a shit. Some-” “Stopping you right there,” Virgil cut him off with a look of disgust before he shook his head, “even if there was something wrong Roman’s door is locked.” “Oh? Little bat tried to sneak in?” Remus teased, “gonna grab something to-” “Oh shut up. No,” Virgil's face still heat up at the implications, “what about your side?” “Haven’t been,” Remus shrugged, “besides it’s crawling with nightmares.” “I know that much but can we get over?” “Probably. Especially if something happened to the prince himself.”

“Okay. So can we go?” He questioned while he motioned for Remus to get off. “Yeah. We can go. If you’re ready to face some of your worst nightmares,” Remus teased him again with a grin. “Oh fuck off,” Virgil shoved him off this time and got up, “let’s go before this gets any worse.” “Ugh fine. You’re no fun anymore,” Remus pouted again but got back up and shook himself down before he grabbed Virgil and threw him over his shoulder. “Remus!” Virgil yelped and struggled in his grip. “Off we go to the piss-yellow road!” Remus cackled as Virgil groaned.

“Will you put me down now?” Virgil asked from his place on Remus’ shoulder. They had been walking for a little while and his stomach had started to get sore.

“Mhhhh nope!” Remus replied cheerfully while he shifted Virgil’s position.

“Why not? Your shoulder is not comfortable and I can’t fight like this.” “That’s the point! We don’t need to fight right now. As long as you’re attached to me you’re fine. I’ll put ya down when we get to Roman’s side.” “Which is how much longer?” “Not too long.”

“Very reassuring,” Virgil spat out sarcastically before sighing and just got comfortable. Remus hummed a sea shanty under his breath as he walked.

A little while later Remus stepped into the meadow right near the border with a whisper of, “wow.” “What? I can’t see.” “Look down.” “What?” “Look down.” Virgil sighs but looks down at the grey dying grass, “holy shit.” “I know,” Remus shifted to let Virgil down, “that’s not a good sign. We gotta hurry and look out for falling crumbling rubble and of course my little nightmares,” Remus grinned.

“Of course. It can never be that easy,” Virgil huffed and stepped to bolt into the kingdom. Remus not too far behind him with his morning star at attention.

“Next time,” Virgil panted, “just tell your nightmares to fuck off.” “But this was so much more fun!” Remus chirped with his morning star on his shoulder.

“Ugh,” He doubled over for a moment before standing straight up again and walks into the castle with another groan, “you’ve got to be kidding me!”

Remus cackled at the thorns, “sleeping beauty? Where’s the dragon?” Just as Remus uttered those words the ground started to rumble. Virgil glared at him, “you just had to open your fat mouth!” “Well I open it for-” “Don’t you dare finish that statement,” he snarled and dashed towards the left where there were fewer thorns for him to cut through, “you can deal with whatever that is!”

“Fair enough!” Remus cackled and turned to go outside where there was a thundering roar.

Virgil huffed and cut his way to Roman’s room in the castle where he was not. He sighed, “okay einstein, where would he be?” 

He started checking all of the rooms he passed with no luck in finding Roman. He walked back to the throne room, or thorn room now. Virgil looked over where the thorns were the thickest, around the throne. It was quiet inside aside from the ticking of a clock. A clock? He looked around for it and found it at the top of the tower of thorns before it flattened to create a ceiling. Could he be up there? Virgil looked for any sign he was up there but finds nothing. He sighed heavily before a glint to the side caught his eye. On the throne was a figure of stone but the glint of a sword at the statue’s side lured him closer. He hissed in pain when a throne vine grabbed his wrist. Virgil cut the vine and continued trudging forward to the statue. The thorn vines continued to slice at him even as he cut them down. He was panting once more when he got to the thorn column. Virgil raised his weapon to carefully slice through the column. He reached his hand through the incision he made and barely brushed his fingers against the statue’s. He couldn’t see the statue’s face but he could see the sleeve, “Roman…” The statue didn’t move, of course. Virgil cursed under his breath and forced his body through the column even if it caused the thorns to drag across his body. He made a small noise of surprise when he fell into Roman’s lap. He took a breath before pressing a soft kiss to the edge of Roman’s mouth. Virgil laughed softly when it didn’t work, “of course. This isn’t a fairytale. I can’t just magically make it better for you. I wish you had talked to me or even someone else. I want to help. You helped me so much and I should’ve checked on you. I went through hell to get here Roman. Please come back to us…” He sighed and moved to get up from where he was, “I’m sorry we didn’t protect you, Roman.” Virgil shook his head as he swallowed the lump in his throat and turned to leave and tell Remus he failed. He jumped as a weight was pressed to his back and arms wrapped around his waist. “V?” Came the weak and rough question. “Roman!” Virgil turned to hug him tightly even if it caused him to wince, “you’re okay. I got you.” “I’m tired,” he mumbled into Virgil’s chest. “Alright princey. Let’s get you home, okay?” “Mhm,” Roman’s breathing was slow and even which made Virgil chuckle before picking him up. “Rest now princey. I’m not going anywhere,” he reassures but Roman was already asleep. The ticking had stopped as Virgil walked out of the castle and back to Roman’s room.

Ro: So you will never believe what happened earlier V!

V: And what would that be?

Ro: Remember the person I was telling you about? The one that gave us cookies?

V: Yeah? What about them?

Ro: I gave them the thank you cookies and I get to take him home today!

V: What?! Ro you barely know this kid

Ro: He’s nice

V: Don’t pull that

Ro: If anything happens I have my family. He needed somewhere to go and I could provide it

V: Just be careful

Patton read the newest writing at lunch. Okay. This was more than a coincidence now. He took a deep breath. He needed to give them some sort of sign he was there but maybe it was better to ask Roman about it. Maybe he could help and not judge for it. Patton glanced around the cafeteria to try and find Roman with no results. He sighed in defeat before yelping at hands touching his shoulders.

“No need to be so jumpy padre,” Roman teased him before he moved his hands back down to his sides with slight worry for Patton.

“Sorry…” Patton looked away and held his soul book closed and close to his chest. “No need to apologize.” Roman attempted to look over his shoulder anyway. “You talking to your soulmate?”

“Uh… no… not exactly.” He held his book a little more protectively.

“Why not?” “I just… I can’t say…” “Are you okay?” Patton answered a little too quickly and excitedly with a: “Of course!”

“Patton don’t lie to me.” Roman put a hand on his hip dramatically. “What’s going on?” “I-” He started to say before nothing else would come out and he shut his mouth. “Yooou?”

“I’m not ready to talk about that. I’m sorry.”

“Are you in any danger?” He moved to squat next to Patton to look at his face.

Patton shook his head quickly, “no. Not anymore. Thank you again for letting me stay with you.” Roman smiled, “of course! Now can you talk to your soulmate?” “No…” Patton glanced at the book in his hands sadly.

“Why not? I mean you have a pen and your book so what are you waiting for?” Roman asked a bit too excitedly that startled Patton slightly.

“Well… it’s been a while and they look happy now. Besides I don’t want to get rejected for-” Patton cut himself off and shook his head with tears welling in his eyes.

“Hey,” Roman set a comforting hand on his shoulder, “I’m sure they’ll wanna talk to you. If they don’t you still have me at least! I’ll have to talk to my soulmate first but I’m sure we can work it out.” “Really?” Patton glanced up at Roman. “Really. The bell’s about to ring so better clean up a little. I’ll see you at J wing when the final bell rings?” He questioned with an extended pinky for him to take.

Patton smiled and nodded before interlocking their pinkies, “see you then.” Roman smiled brightly with yet another nod before slipping away once more into the sea of people. Patton sighed happily and wiped his face with his sleeves. Things were finally looking up for him. He did however pull out his book and the pen. He flipped to the page with a bunch of red drawings with purple remarks and drew a very small light blue heart with a smile. He hoped Roman was right. The bell rang and he went to the next class with his head held higher and a smile on his face.

Dear Logan,

May this letter find you in good health. Ugh no. That was way too formal even for me. Charlotte should put this letter on your desk. First off we have phones for a reason. Second I now have an entire stash of sweets that could put me into a sugar coma that I have mostly not touched. Third I hear you guys. You aren’t very quiet. And finally…. I know. You all have been radiating fear and guilt. You don’t have to do anything Logan. I just- I can’t. We shouldn’t. Roman and Patton can but do you know the consequences of this? It’s too risky. At least right now. So just leave me alone. Tell Pat and Princey that I’m okay and to stop giving me shit. I’ll be okay soon. You take this time to calm down too. Then we’ll talk.

See You Soon

This is a really heavy fic that is based off of an RP I did with someone. No names are used and it probably makes this confusing but still. I did not really try here. I just wanted the idea to go away. Read the warnings and please be safe

He looked at the picture frame beside the gun. A small sad smile as he picked it up. It was a final happy picture with him, his friend and his crush. His crush had been asked out by a popular kid and never looked back. He hadn’t seen him since hearing he had said yes to the popular kid. His friend got a lover and has been in the honeymoon phase ever since. The two almost never parted. They were all accepted into the more popular crowd leaving him behind. One person came to him though, only to use him. He was being used as a way to get his crush to get jealous and leave his boyfriend for him. It didn’t work and he got more distant. Now here he was. No family. No friends. No future. He still wrote notes for them should they find it or him. He doubted it. He set the picture down slowly and gently wiped the tears that had fallen. He picked up the gun and pressed it to his temple. He bit the inside of his lip as he gave one more glance to the picture and whispered “goodbye.” Bang.

At the same time he was attempting his crush was as well. He couldn’t escape his boyfriend to see his crush or talk to him. He felt smothered and isolated. He felt he couldn’t escape any other way. He looked at the same picture but on his phone. The notes set beside the pills. He set his phone down with a shaky sigh before he picked up the pill bottle with a choked sob of “I’m sorry” and he downed the pills.

However his boyfriend got there just in time. He awoke to the blinding lights of the hospital surrounded by his friends, family, and boyfriend but no crush, “where?” He tried to speak but was shushed gently. “Don’t try to speak just yet. Rest. I’ll be right here when you wake.” “But-” “No buts. Sleep. You need the strength my love.”

He looked at the mutual friend of his crush and himself who looked just as concerned as he was but it didn’t seem like for the same person. Something bad happened. He could feel it.

When he was finally released from the hospital he headed immediately to his crush’s house. His boyfriend couldn’t stop him. Not anymore. He skidded to a stop outside of the house and nearly gagged at the smell. He knocked three times and called out for his crush to answer him. There was no response, “I’m coming in!” He called before busting the door down and immediately putting a hand to his face to block the smell, “ugh, God, couldn’t clean up?” He asked before slowly walking in and calling his name again and again till he reached the door of his crush’s bedroom. The smell was worse here and the dread welled up in his stomach icy and stone. He opened the door slowly as he called out his name one more time before seeing the sight before him. His crush, dead on the floor with a gun in his hand and partly decomposing. He turned away and immediately started throwing up. Shakily he took out his own phone and dialed the emergency hotline. It didn’t take long after that.

His crush was dead. The family didn’t care. The fake boyfriend looked ill. The friend was devestated but he had his lover. But himself? He felt numb. He couldn’t understand. Was there anything he could’ve done? Probably not but that did nothing to stop the guilt. His current boyfriend held him close and whispered things to him he couldn’t hear. He just wanted him back. He wanted to tell him. To confess. Now he’ll never get that chance.

After the funeral ended he stood by the casket. They were waiting on him to leave so they could bury the body. He gently kissed the pads of his fingers before pressing them against the casket, “See you soon my love.”
