The last image.. hits me very hard. I ‘grew up’ as a gay man in an age when our ‘elders’ began going extinct at an alarming rate. It’s something you cannot explain to someone who didn’t survive it. Try to imagine, for a moment, a world without “Daddies”. It almost came to pass. We are few and far between but we survived and endured losses you can’t comprehend. Friends, loved ones, family.. every day our icons and heroes fell. It was devastating because we nearly lost everything: history, community, connection and the ‘old guard’. Some ‘resent’ the presence but they should be treasured.

The need for love, companionship, compassion and community never changes. Respect and cherish each other.
