In the 80′s and 90′s, everyone “properly educated” in Witchcraft and Paganism “knew” that a pentagram was the geometric shape of a five-pointed star, and a pentacle was a physical object, like a plate, with magical sigils inscribed into it, or an amulet cast into the shape of said sigils – often a pentagram but there were other seals and sigils used to create different pentacles for different purposes. In Wicca specifically, the pentagram with a point facing up was the symbol of first-degree, the point down was the symbol of the second degree, and the point up in conjunction with a triangle was the symbol of the third degree. Non-Wiccans either used point up as a default or had their own associations for the difference. Western Ceremonial Magic traditions had different ways to draw the (always upright) five-pointed star depending on whether you were invoking/summoning or banishing, and the points you started drawing from and toward gave different elemental correspondences. For example, the invoking pentagram of spirit started at the point of spirit (top), and drew down to the point of earth (usually lower left as the inscriber is facing it) as the first stroke, calling in powers of spirit into this earthly realm.
In the 90′s an earnest subset of non-initiate and non-British-Traditional Wiccans insisted that all Wiccans and witches only used the point up version, and that Satanists exclusively used the point down version, because they had stolen the pure and good symbol of the Wiccans and inverted it for their use exactly the way they used inverted crosses. And there was much hand-wringing whenever Hollywood used upright stars in circles for “the bad guys” or inverted stars in circles for “good witches”.
In the 00′s there was a new definition that gained traction for a time that a pentacle was a five-pointed star in a circle, and was therefore “contained” and “safe”, and a pentagram was a five-pointed star without a circle, and was “dangerous” to use or wear because it could… summon things on its own? use wild magic? attract spirits? become a portal? I’m a little fuzzy on this part. But it was chaotic and “unbound” and therefore only suited to chaos magicians, reckless practitioners, and the most advanced witches, and should be kept out of the hands of children and new witchlings who needed to be protected from uncontrolled magic until they learned to defend themselves properly? Anyways, it became very important among adherents to this philosophy to check all the penta-whatever pendants on a jewelry display to see if the points of the star were completely contained by, joined with, or extended beyond the circle, because these meant different things about how its magic worked and who it would be “safe” or “appropriate” for. Oh and now I remember that for a time there were people who ascribed great meaning to whether the lines of a penta-whatever amulet or inscription were flat-joined or interlaced like celtic knotwork, and if they were interlaced, whether the overlapping happened in one particular direction or the other. But I never quite caught the meanings they associated with those things. Darn.
A competing meme in the 90′s and 00′s was that the point up was for summoning, and the point down was for banishing. In the 10′s, the dominant story in the next generation of witchlings seems to be that the pentacle is any five-pointed star, in image or object (there is no differentiation between the shape and the physical object, that meaning has pretty much disappeared), with the point facing up, and is symbolic of “white witchcraft” (a racist distinction for another rant) or “good magic”, and the point down is a pentagram, which is used by Satanists, necromancers, demonologists, and “black magic”.
This new definition has become viral and I think we in the older generation are outnumbered now. I think we’ve lost this meme war.
But hey kids, if you’re reading books published before the turn of this century, please be aware that the author is probably using the older definitions of the terms and not these newer things.
Now what interests me is how it’s going to change in the next memetic shift. Anybody want to place bets? I have a small bet that the new wave of “true meaning” will be that a pentacle has to be cast in silver, and a pentagram is anything made in a different metal, such as bronze, copper, iron, steel, pewter, gold, brass, etc.
Most of my money is riding on that it’ll be something completely out of left field I’ll have never heard of or thought of, but that will be suddenly widespread and an “everybody knows that the real meaning…” phenomenon. Just like all the rest of these waves. ;)
the purest moment of the whole video tbh.

Your Personal Demon
“You’ve heard of patron Demons, right? Did you know that everyone also has a personal Demon? It’s true! While you are able to, for the most part, choose your patron Demon, your personal demon is with you from the time your soul is created by Satan! In a way, your personal Demon is also your demonic form, as it exemplifies the best aspects of you, the aspects that are most pleasing to Lord Satan. Discovering your personal Demon requires dedicated meditation. The meditative technique itself isn’t fancy or too complicated, but it requires stilling the mind, which some people find to be difficult. There is no set time frame on this: you might start discovering information about your Demon after just a half hour of meditation. It might take you days and days to get anything. Don’t stress yourself about it! You’ll figure it out all in good time. Typically, you start out just learning your Demon’s name, and as you meditate more and more, you’ll learn Their appearance, sigil, qualities, et cetera. Something important to know about your personal Demon is that you should keep Their identity to yourself. Your personal Demon needs to be a closely guarded secret. Many ancient cultures assigned people two names, one public, and one secret. The secret name was believed to have tremendous power, and the more you spoke the secret name aloud, the weaker and weaker it became. The same goes for your personal Demon. Tragedy and misfortune won’t befall you if you talk about your personal Demon with others, you’ll simply find that your connection to Them becomes weaker and weaker, and may eventually disappear altogether. I know that you will be excited about getting to know your Demon, but you’ll want to exercise some self-control. Along with astral meditation, your personal Demon can be your best link to Hell. It is important to go into this meditative process with zero expectations. Understand that it is very unlikely your personal Demon will be a Demon that you are already familiar with. Higher-ranking, more well known Demons are typically patron Demons. If you go into the meditative process hoping that, say, Haagenti will be your personal Demon, you’ll not only wind up disappointed, but you will cloud and complicate the process. Don’t set yourself up for failure. Let’s get to the meditation itself! Like I said, it is extremely unfussy. There are no special candles, spells, or anything of that sort required. One of the most important things to remember is to make yourself as comfortable as possible; you don’t want to be hindered by anything that will distract you. All your focus and attention needs to be turned inward. If you are very new to meditation, you might want to practice for a while without the end goal of contacting your Demon. Think of it as a college class: you wouldn’t skip every lesson, never do any of the homework, then show up for the final and expect to ace it! Ideally, you’ll want to meditate outdoors in a quiet setting (no audible traffic, loud picnicking, etc), but a quiet room in your house where you won’t be interrupted is just fine too. Candles and incense are entirely optional. If you find that the smell of incense helps you focus, go right ahead! If it tends to distract you, avoid it. Sit cross-legged or in lotus/half-lotus, let your hands rest loosely on your knees, close your eyes and relax. Focus your attention on your third eye, which is located in the center of your forehead. (The third eye is an upper Chakra. Having your Chakras open/aligned isn’t necessary for this meditation, but it definitely will help.) All breathing should be through the nose, in for a count of six, held for a count of six, and exhaled for a count of six. With practice, you won’t have to mentally time your breaths, it will just feel natural. As you breathe and focus your attention on your third eye, you will feel yourself move from the mundane realm to the spiritual realm. Allow your relaxed mind to call out to your personal Demon, inviting Them to reveal Themself to you. Try to stay in a meditative state for at least 15 minutes. If you rush through it, you won’t get anywhere. If you haven’t found any answers after 15 to 30 minutes of meditation, allow yourself to come back to a wakeful state, and attempt to contact your Demon again in a day or so. Developing a relationship with your personal Demon is extremely spiritually enriching! You owe it to yourself as a Theistic Satanist to get acquainted with all the spiritual tools and allies at your disposal. Lord Satan shows how much he cares for us by giving us these amazing gifts, take advantage of them! And remember, if you ever have any questions on getting to know your personal Demon (or anything else!), please contact me through the Contact form at the left hand menu! MISCONCEPTIONS About... Demons, Angels, Reapers, Shadow People, Ghosts, Spirits, and so on
Yes, there are all these wonderful and not so wonderful entities that wander the planes of existence. Aka dimensions. But NONE of these are automatically GOOD or BAD just because they are what they are. I’ve known great demons and asshole angels. So here’s a list of misconceptions of these beings that come from the etheric plane.
=Angels= Angels are NOT holy beings. They are NOT messengers or servants of “god”. They have a powerful hierarchy of 9 classes or chiors of angels leading up to someone considered an angel king or queen. They are NOT automatically good. Heaven is NOT a sanctuary for when you die. It just is a place in the upper etheric. 50% of angels are very “noble” and prissy. The other half are pretty nice.
=Demons= Demons are NOT automatically BAD. Hell is just a place in the lower etheric, and you need to stop with all of the “hell is for bad people” shit. Christianity is 80% wrong about hell and demons. 50% of demons are actually pretty honorable. The other half are rogue and act on their own accord.
=Reapers= There is NO SUCH THING as the GRIM REAPER. Get that out of your minds right now. Reapers are entities that guide souls, cause “accidents” and “coincidences”, and also do odd jobs here and there. They come from a realm called the void that is made of pure nothingness and able to be manipulated by imagination, if you have creation rights to a sector or plot. No, they are NOT gods or spirits of death in the TRADITIONAL way of thinking. That’s just silly. And yes, they CAN cause deaths, but only when it is your time to go. They can also HELP you, by changing your own fate. That is, if you contract one as a spirit guide.
=Shadow People= No, they are NOT always bad. Yes they are sometimes creepy, but what do you expect from a damn SHADOW? It’s not like they can turn into anything else. Other than that, I don’t know of any other stereotypes. They also come from the void.
=Shades= These are more animalistic shadow people that are less humanoid. They are in between metamorphosis of a shadow person and a void beast. Some shades stop metamorphosis and become full shades, others continue transforming. Again, these are NOT always bad. Just pretty damn scary if you see one. But sometimes they’re even cute, in a sick twisted way. Poor things, they don’t mean to be, half the time!
=Void Beasts= These are very animalistic entities with the desire to kill. Void beasts are extremely bloodlusty. And they have to keep this under control, otherwise it may consume them. But this bloodlust also makes them extremely powerful. HOWEVER, this does NOT mean that they are BAD. But I will admit, void beasts who DO become corrupted are actually EXTREMELY malign. And extremely powerful. Corrupted and crazy void beasts are sometimes interpreted as demons, in the malign religious sense. BUT. NOT ALL void beasts are this corrupt. Only around 40% of them.
=Spirits= If you’re playing around with Ouiji boards, you’re a dumb fuck. Because that attracts a lot of negative shit. Not kidding. It’s not just used to communicate with spirits. And poltergeists are most definitely real. But they’re basically spirits that have been corrupted and consumed by negativity. Spirits are usually bound to a location or object, and that is why they can’t pass on, oftentimes. And some are even attached to a person or entity. It all really depends.
=Ghosts= Ghosts are NOT SPIRITS. Ghosts are basically fragments of souls and imprints on time and space, sometimes even memories, that keep repeating themselves over and over and over again for eternity. The memories are usually events with a lot of emotion, or a repeated act that involved a lot of energy. They can also be emotions themselves, that are bound to a certain spot. For example, you might feel a ghost of anger and fear in a bathroom where someone was murdered out of rage. Just like a field or feeling of anger and fear whenever you go into that bathroom.
That about covers it. Thanks for reading and I hope that cleared some stuff up. And I hope you’re now more educated on this stuff.
