Paging Dr. Thomas | Jane & Thomas Flashback
One of the things Thomas appreciated about himself was that he did not get cold easily. He spent a lot of time up in the tree house in the winter because his house got too crowded when it snowed, no one wanted to face the outdoors. Thomas didn’t mind though. he would bundle up tightly and waddle out into the snow and climb the ladder to the infamous tree house. He was there more often than not, so that was probably how Jane knew how to find him as quickly as she did.
When he first heard the screams, he automatically knew something was wrong. Thomas recognized Jane’s voice and immediately started running down the small rope ladder. However, rope ladder aren’t efficient for someone in a hurry, and in his rush Thomas missed the last rung and fell directly into the snow on his face. He was greeted with a cold wetness on impact, but craned his neck upwards in alarm. “JANE! Jane wha – what happened??”
Jane gave another gasp, louder this time, when she saw Thomas fall in the snow. Her shoulders shook and she felt as though she were going to start crying even harder. Oh no, what if Thomas was hurt, and what if he had a booboo that was really bad and then Daddy would have to take them to the hospital because Jane couldn’t drive yet! Jane didn’t have a license she was nine and what if Thomas started crying and-
But Thomas picked up his head and Jane took a few steps closer to him. “I found him,” she shifted the bundle to one arm so she could offer the other to Thomas. She pushed the bundle toward him: a small squirrel, twitching and shuddering in the cold, with an ugly scrape on its side.
“He’s hurt!” she said, scandalized. “I found him laying in the snow and I think-I think he’s freezing!”
