They had strolled into the hub just as the Move It Shake It Play It dance party was kicking off. “OOoo!”, Matt yelped excitedly, nearly lifting off the group. “This is my favorite! Come dance with me!”, he grabbed the other’s hand and pulled them into the middle of the scene before they could protest. He danced along with the structured dances which were lead by the characters and movers, though Matt seemed to know them by heart.

Dae smiled at Matt’s reaction to the beginning of the song, taking his hand and following him to the center of the area. She had no oppositions, and began to follow the dance moves shown by their coworkers. She clearly didn’t know them as well as Matt did, but managed to copy them a second or so behind. “How many times have you done this?” She wondered, but asked in a non judgmental mindset. She was actually just curious about how he’d come to know the steps to the dances so well. “I’m going to have to practice more if I want to keep up!”

Liza, done up entirely like Elena, turned to see who her next guest was at PFH, “hello your highness!”, she shrieked in pure joy at the familiar face, pulling them into a hug. “I am so honored to have you come visit me today! Did you fly into the kingdom on a jaquin?”

Dae had come to appreciate Liza a lot, as one of her good friends. She’d come by to sneak some leftover sweets from the bakery to both her and her character attendant, as well as to say hi. Her intention was to give Liza a brief break from the flood of strangers that she spoke to all day, though she wasn’t even sure if Liza needed it. “Hello!” Dae greeted Liza in return, wrapping her arms around Liza’s shoulders. “How are you today?” Dae had seen a few episodes of Elena of Avalor, enough to sort of follow what Liza was asking. “Well, of course! How else would I get here?”

“ Come on, please go to Horror nights with me, i want to make friends with the scare actors.”

A dramatic sigh fell from Dae’s lips. “Can’t we just make friends with them when they’re out of costume?”

Neil ducked his head sheepishly when she called him out on the fact that he’d gladly just latched onto the first familiar face. “I mean… kinda the second one, but I saw plenty of people I didn’t know and just let them walk on by! I’m a friendly guy, I totally coulda like picked up a stranger friend for the day, Disney’s the most non-threatening place in the world.”

Dae smiled, she had to give him some credit for being honest. She thought it was strange that he’d appoach her of all people, considering the fact that they weren’t particularly close. “Well, I’m glad you found me and not a weirdo, or anyone too horribly annoying that you’d have to put up with all night.” She put a hand on the back of his shoulder to encourage him to walk with her. “At least... I don’t think I’m weird or annoying... I’ll let you be the judge of that. Come on. Where did you say you wanted to go again?”

“Try the grey stuff, it’s delicious!” has been stuck in my head all day. Not the whole song, just that one line. Over and over again. It doesn’t help that I have to look at the literal grey stuff all day long, but still! Why can’t I have a better part of that song stuck in my head! We don’t even play the version with lyrics at BOG! It’s just instrumental! Help! 

Dae wrinkled her nose as she struggled to figure out exactly how she could help the other woman with the catchy song lyrics stuck in her head. She worked in the back, where they could talk among themselves and not much could be heard over the chaos of the kitchen, so she couldn’t quite relate to her struggles. But, she could imagine that hearing the same song all day could drive a person insane. “I assume you’ve tried tuning it out?” she checked. “Like, just ignore it and focus on the guests?” Dae then had an idea, a way to get her mind off the song. Dae’s go to solution to all problems. “Oh! We made too many rice crispies and peanut butter bars at the bakery today, do you want some?”

Do you think radio shows realize that they’re a big part of the reason that half of Americans never answer their phones when it’s an unfamiliar number? Like, either they call you to force you to talk to some guy you were trying to ghost, or they play pranks on you, or they want you to give them money – and they broadcast it all on their shows for the world to see! If you ever call me from a strange number and it goes straight to voicemail, well… I mean, at least now you know who to blame! I mean, this morning I heard a guy call in about how his girlfriend wouldn’t let him send a birthday card to his mom without signing her name on it too, and yes, I think she sounds a little crazy for doing that, but imagine if someone aired your dirty laundry for the whole county to see instead of just waiting for you to calm down and be more rational about it later – I’d like dump him instantly, wouldn’t you?

Dae didn’t have a car, at the moment at least. She did have her license, but hadn’t driven since her last car broke down. Because of this, she hadn’t actually listened to live radio in years. “Do they actually do that?” She was genuinely surprised by the idea, she was grateful to have never been fooled into such an embarrassing situation. “From the sounds of it, the girl doesn’t even sound that horrible. I mean, I don’t know the full story, but is it so bad for her to want to wish her boyfriend’s mom a happy birthday?” Her past relationships ended in ways that she didn’t think warranted a phone call on the radio. She was, for once, grateful for the way they had ended. “Anyway, I’ll make sure I give you my new number if I ever change it, so you won’t mistake me for any radio hosts.”

Camille nodded; she just thought it was them being gross, but she guessed maybe there was an end goal to it, too. “That sounds kind of adorable! Like a big Disney ice skating group hug.”

“Exactly!” Dae exclaimed excitedly with a quick nod of her head, her dark hair falling in front of her eyes as she did. She brushed the hair back. “Do you think we could afford to rent out a whole place for a night if we all pooled our money?”

“Oh, hey, I was hoping I’d find you!” Neil exclaimed, grabbing on to the first familiar face he spotted near the entrance to the Epcot World Showcase. “This is my first Food and Wine visit since I turned 21, I need someone to babysit me in case I have a little too much fun drinking my way around the world, let’s go!”

Dae’s eyebrows raised in surprise as Neil held onto her. For a brief moment, she had panicked, until she caught a glimpse of his face and realized she knew him. “And how did this responsibility fall to me, exactly? You need a babysitter and instantly think ‘Dae would be perfect’ or was I just the first person you saw?”

“Literally no clue, probably a random ninety nine cents store back home, but honestly it’s my most prized treasure currently.”

“Ugh.” She groaned, having had her heart set on getting one herself. She pouted childishly. “Do you think if I gave you cash to send her she’d buy me one too? Or do you prefer to be one of a kind?”

Liza nodded her head as her attention split between feverishly cleaning the microwave before someone came in and listening to Dae. “Will do!” It turned out the damage was a lot less worse once the mess was cleared. At most the now charcoal-ed microwave plate would have to be replaced. She gave a little smile at the not so hopeless situation. “It’s going okay. Imuch rather hear about yours.” She turned to the girl, throwing away the paper towels in a nearby trash bin before plopping down on the table. She rummaged through her bag for hand sanitizer as she spoke. Using it once she found it before touching her half of their now shared lunch. “Thanks again, by the way. You’re a life saver. I’m down to microwavable meals until I can hit up Publix on Thursday.”

Dae nodded, she could easily manage to talk about her own day if that was what Liza preferred. She began talking between bites of her sandwich. “Today has gone pretty well so far, actually. I’ve always enjoyed switching things up and working on our new specialty cupcakes, and the ghost cupcakes we’re serving right now are so much fun. And delicious, of course... not to sound too arrogant.” She rattled, using the details of her day as a distraction. “And I always love seeing families watch us bake through the window, makes me feel less... out of touch, I guess. Though one little boy in particular must not have enjoyed his cupcake because he smeared the frosting across the window.” Dae watched her finish up and sit down. “No problem. Honestly, I usually bring way too much for myself because I love fresh veggies and everything but they usually go bad long before I can eat them on my own. So I may as well find someone to share with. It’s one of the reasons I miss having a room mate.”

“My best friend from home mailed me this and I just couldn’t wait to use it.”

“Oh my god, that’s so cute. Do you know where they got it?”

Liza nodded, allowing herself to give in to the helping hand. “Okay, I’ll split your lunch with you. Thank you.” She turned back to the microwave for it beckoned for her attention with the smoke that rose from it when she opened it. “But seriously, enjoy your lunch first at the very least. I got this.”

Dae was glad that Liza had at least accepted her lunch offer, it made her happier to know that Liza wouldn’t have to go without or spend extra money on something. “If you decide you need something, just let me know. Really.” Dae went to sit back down, this time opening her lunch and setting half of it aside for Liza. “Aside from the microwave disaster, how’s your day going?”

liza shook her head at first, too focused on the the fact that she had nearly caused the room to go up in flames to be reassured. she took a long cleansing breath as the other worked wonders to soothe her. “gosh, what would i do if you weren’t here right now?”, she gushed sincerely. she snapped back to her old self, launching into action, grabbing a rag near the sink and scrubbing at the melted mess she had made. “but no, it’s okay. i got this, really. enjoy your sandwich, i can grab something from mouseketeria after.”

The fact that she had managed to at least help a little bit brought a smile to her face. “How bad is it? I can work on cleaning off the glass plate, or whatever it’s called, if you want.” she offered again, insistent on doing something to help her. “And seriously, I brought more than I can eat. It’ll go to waste otherwise.”

Liza’s heart was fighting the instinct to beat its way straight through her chest. She tried to regulate her breath to calm it down. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine–” She snapped her head toward the window of the microwave. “No way! N O, I remember taking it o-” She squatted down to the microwave’s level, squinting but not approaching it any closer as if it might burst into flames again. Wrapped around the breakfast sandwich that was burnt to the core was a little piece of the fast food place’s aluminum foil wrapper.  “Oh my gosh…I’m so fired.”

Dae patted Liza’s shoulder in a way that she hoped would be comforting. Fires weren’t exactly uncommon in her line of work, and she knew how frightening they could be. “No, no you’re not. It’s okay, mistakes happen.” Dae reassured her, looking into the microwave to assess just how damaged it was. “Replacing a microwave that hardly functioned to begin with is hardly a problem for Disney. I’ve done worse, and I’m still here. And it might not even be as bad as it looks. I’ll help you clean it out. I brought a sandwich for lunch, there’s enough for us to split it if you want.”

The smoke filled room finally settled after an intense few seconds of screaming coming from Liza as she waved the fire extinguisher nozzle around. Thankfully she had acted quickly when the break room microwave suddenly went up in flames. Even after the fire was out and the fire extinguisher was emptied, the girl continued to yell and flail around. Eventually she calmed and came to a stop. “What the heck?!”

Dae was, quite literally, half asleep in one of the chairs of the break room when the yelling started. Startled by the sound, and whatever the reason for it may have been, she sat bolt upright with wide eyes and wild hair. Once she was able to fully comprehend what was happening, she jumped to her feet to help. Thankfully, Liza had the situation under control. Instinct must have kicked in. “What happened?” she asked, confused but no longer groggy. She coughed around the smoke, and put a hand on Liza’s shoulder as she stood beside her. “Are you okay? Good thing you reacted so quickly. Did you happen to put aluminum foil in there?"

“Well then lets plan the hell out of this party and we can have a great time on the night.”

“I assume it’ll be a costume party, right? Maybe we could have a costume contest, that would be fun.”

“Sometimes on breaks i actually scroll through the instagram tags in hopes of finding myself or one of us in the background of family photos here. it’s a good pass-time when you’re alone in a break room and it can be really funny what you find.” he pulled out his phone and quickly found a screenshot of him in the background of a family’s photo during Move It Shake It where he was dancing wildly with Judy Hopps in the background. He chuckled as he showcased himself. “Sanity? Is that something the company let you keep when you signed your life away? Because I had to give up mine!

“Oh my god, do you seriously?” She laughed at the thought alone, she was sure it was entertaining. Even if he couldn’t find silly pictures of them and their friends, at least he got to see how happy all the families were in the park. “Have you found any good ones?” Dae wondered, stepping closer to him so that she could see his phone. It was a bit tough with the glare from the sun, but she positioned herself well enough to see him in the photo. “I assume you haven’t found any of me, I’m not hanging around the parks enough to be caught on camera.” She assumed, due to the fact that she worked indoors and often relied on the tunnels to get there that her likelihood was lower than the others’ would be. “Must be some sort of trade to get the costume... unless mine is gone and I just haven’t realized yet.”
