NYC Generation Tech: Week Five

Hard to believe that it's already been five weeks, and that my summer is coming to a close. As we near the end the summer, and my groups presentation on September 10th, things have only gotten harder. As lead engineer, its only gotten harder to do my job as not only do I have to continue to fix the login screen for the app, I have to move forward with other pages and coding them out, which is difficult, because I can't move forward without colors and design until the designers are done with their work. This is really frustrating, and the designs take quite awhile to do, which makes it harder for me to work, as I have less time. Hopefully things pick up within the next week and Tim an I can make a large amount of progress on the code.

NYC Generation Tech: Meeting the Tech Mentors

I think that my group has gotten some really good Tech Mentors, and the roving mentor Frank has also been a big help in helping us figure out what API's we will need. Alex has also help a lot, helping us figure out a minimum viable product which was a big help. It was cool to meet all of our mentors, but it really sucked that we never got to all of our mentors at any given time, but hopefully we will at the next gathering. I'm really happy with the mentors we got, because as I've heard from other groups, some mentors are really strong-minded and want to change their app idea, and im happy that my groups tech mentors aren't trying to change what we're doing, but at least trying to help us hone down to a single important feature.

NYC Generation Tech: End of Boot Camp Reflection

Being in the GenTech Boot Camp for the last two weeks has been a hard, but fun and amazing experience. I am happy that I was able to join the team that I am on and form a company like NYCLoop. The Boot Camp was hard and took a lot of effort and lack of sleep, but in the end I feel that it has made me ten times more prepared to not only produce a quality app, but also use the skills I have learned in my life. Being in my company has been an exciting experience, as we experienced what it was like to have something amazing and new, but then to be shot down and reach a low that we would have almost not recovered from. Luckily, we recovered and were able to form a quality app that we have the upmost faith in. Being in this program has been an enriching experience and I want to thank all the guest speakers, the MadeInNY group for their event we were allowed to come to, as well as Jordan, Ron, and Jaimie for providing an awesome experience and make friends with amazing people.

NYC Generation Tech: Week One Reflection

This week in the GenTech program has been a very exciting one, and i am happy to continue to participate in the program. I have learned a lot about entrepreneurship in the past few days, from the guest speakers to the power points from Jordan, Jaimie and Ron. I am very excited to move forward in my new team/company to develop an app and compete. I am somewhat scared to begin to move on because with the things that we want to do with our app, i know that it is going to be a very hard task, but I believe that i have the passion to work hard on our project and outdo the competition. Today we formed our teams, and the process of finding the right team was awkward and somewhat frustrating. My idea hadnt been a stellar one, so I had to compromise and join another group with an idea i could put passion into. At first i had found a group, but that didnt work out, and then I found another group that was very similar to my app idea and was ready to start working on the app with a passion, but was denied and had to find another group. Even though I was frustrated, I moved on and found a team where I could contribute and put passion into my work. I think that this process of finding the right group will be beneficial to a future career in entrepreneurship, finding the right people to work with and the right thing to work on. I'm ready to continue on with the coding and other work that we're going to do and look forward to continuing this program.

NYC Generation Tech Day #1: Introduction

My name is Daetuan. My interests include playing video games, spending time with friends and reading. I also like learning to code, and am pursuing a career as a Video Game programmer. I am currently in the NFTE NYC Generation Tech Program. So far I've experienced quite a lot at the Generation Tech Program. When I walked into this Program this morning I viewed entrepreneurship in a very different way. I thought it would be very easy, and that being an entrepreneur would be a very easy task. After listening to Adam Neary CEO/Founder of Profitably, my views on what being an entrepreneur would be like changed greatly, and I noted how hard it would be to start my own business, and become a successful entrepreneur. I am excited to learn the skills needed to become an Entrepreneur, as well as learning coding in HTML, and various other coding languages.
