Horned Colossus, Golden Rabbit, haloed sunset clouds.
Last cool(ish) night for the week. I'm trying to cool down the apartment as much as possible before the next heatwave hits tomorrow.
Maybe I should open both parts of the balcony doors.
I know these heatwaves are no good for the environment - the local flora and fauna are not equipped to deal, and neither are our buildings or the general public. But I am enjoying the mediterranean style climate so much, and it’s wild how much more comfortable and active I am at these temperatures. My viking genes all had their epigenetic switches permanently thrown by growing up in equatorial highland climate.
Was out in the worst heat today, walking rapidly from shade to shade, and could feel the resting happy-face that’s been breaking through every time I go outside. The world genuinely seems so much more enticing, enjoyable and real like this.
Coastal temperate climate is great for a lot of reasons, but it’s definitely not what I thrive in.
Three cherries and bananas
It’s very late. Warm, but not sweltering. I don’t feel like going to sleep, but I should.
It always messes with me for ages when I accidentally skew my day/night cycle too much, so I don’t want to do that — I don’t want to sacrifice most of a week to getting it back on track. But, even more than that, I wish it didn’t matter.
For weeks now I have been craving real time off from everything. What I need is a couple of weeks in a summer house or cabin, preferably close to the sea and some woods. Somewhere to draw, paint and write, and not much else. Instead I am sorting through papers, emptying shelves and drawers, packing boxes to be moved.
All of the work of loss and change, and no time to process.

Algae-blooms in July
Dreamt of dying, disability, dementia. Woke up two hours early, too unsettled to fall back asleep. Alone, adrift, a stranger in my own life. Summer provides only the thinnest sheen of reassurance.

From Radiant Star, by Ann Leckie
Finally got my grubby little hands on Ann Leckie's new book, Radiant Star. Apart from an hour working out at the pool, I'm going to spend tomorrow reading, maybe with an ice-cream break at some point.
Lego build. Some of my friends gave me this set last month. It's not as poseable as I'd hoped, mostly because the limb movement is very restricted, but you can still play around with action shots.
The site seems to be more screwy than usual - struggling to post, view replies, reblogs, etc.
I accidentally burnt my loaves when I forgot to lower the temperature after putting them in the oven. They're still good though.
