‘ o-oh !! i’m sorry, i wasn’t payin- what did you say ?? ’
“I was just asking if you were alright. You looked so damn spaced out it was concerning.”
“oh nicole,” jason responded, shaking his head and chuckling. “ i’d ruffle your hair, but i don’t want to ruin it. you’re in denial because you don’t want to ruin our friendship. but that’s okay. i wouldn’t fuck you.” not that he wasn’t attracted to her. more of the fact he didn’t want to suck her soul away.
“No, you’re just not my type.” She was mostly poking fun at him. It was their thing to bicker on a constant basis. “Besides I might contract some deadly disease if I even kissed you. Not risking it.”
knuckles tightened around the steering wheel. eyes were straight ahead. “are you telling me you got involved with some.. some monster?” his voice was cold. disappointed. he’d never got involved in nicole’s love that. didn’t usually give a shit who she went for. apart from that one time he had to grid of that abusive asshole. “is that why you’ve been letting kills go? because you’re fucking one of them?”
“She doesn’t have claws or fangs. If that’s what you were wondering.” Usually by now she would be yelling at him. Not even a sarcastic comment could be made. She was done. Beyond tired. “Did you not here me? I told you I ruined it before anything happened. So you wouldn’t hurt her.” She shrugged as she stared at the road ahead. “I started letting kills go before I met her. I’m guessing Nate hasn’t told you what happened.”
Valentina got questions like this all the time, especially since she got back, so she didn’t pay any mind to it as she placed the girls food on her table. “Probably,” she said simply. “Valentina Grimaldi, my mom used to own this place. And you are?”
“Val?” She smiled once the connection was finally made. It’s been so many years so the hunter wasn’t surprised neither of them recognized the other. “It’s Nikki. You know, Nicole Graves.”

“that’s alright. you could never be– you weren’t a burden,” she mumbled softly in response to her apology. of course she wanted to leave straight away. it was better this way. easier. so why did marissa suddenly feel a longer in her that wanted nicole to stay? it’s not like anything even developed seriously between them. these whole feelings were stupid. she was stupid. but then came another apology. about what happened. sober words this time. full of regret. they seemed genuine. light hues gazed softly up at the other. slender hand reached out to grab nicole as she stepped away. but it didn’t quite fulfill their purpose. fingers merely grazing softly against the exposed skin she could touch before the raven haired individual was out of reach. “i don’t want an–” marissa started before her arm dropped and hands clasped into her lap. “i just wanted to understand, that’s all…”
Nicole stopped once she reached the door, staring at the handle as she contemplated what to do. Marissa deserved an explanation, one that wasn’t filled with yelling. She turned around to face her as she leaned her back against the door. “I make quick decisions that I think will be for the best but they’re always wrong.” Nicole saw many things in black and white but as of late she was starting to notice the grey. “I thought by making you believe that I hate you meant you would be safe.” She swiftly wiped at her cheek when she felt tears watering her eyes. “I was scared of something happening to you because of me. Cutting you out of my life lessened those chances but I regret all those things I said to you. I’ve done a lot of awful shit in my life but that was probably the worst decision I ever made because being with you made me happy and--” Her words cut off and she just stared at the witch for a long moment of silence.
aaron sighed heavily before doing a u turn and driving back in the direction he came in. he didn’t speak for a good ten minutes. focusing on the road. but it wasn’t long before the elder graves couldn’t hold in the urge to scold nicole. “what the fuck is going on with you, nicole?” aaron asked, harshly. as much as she tried to deny it, there was definitely something wrong with her. “first you’re letting kills go. now you’re recklessly getting smashed at random people’s houses. you going through a bad break up or something? because you need to pull yourself together.”
She appreciated the silence but she knew it wouldn’t last long. Aaron enjoyed inserting his opinion whenever he felt like it. Tired eyes blinked open before drifting over to him. “A breakup would imply I had a relationship to begin with.” She did not have the energy to argue with him or deflect from the truth. “But I had to ruin it before we got anywhere because either you, or dad, or that other idiot would of killed her if you found out.” A soft, barley audible, laugh crept past her lips. “I really liked her too.”
“do you do anything apart from complain? geez, nikki. you need to get laid or something. loosen the fuck up. you hang around with me because i’m awesome and you’re sexually attracted to me. the same reason anyone else does.”
“Complaining is what I’m good at. Wait, you think I’m sexually attracted to you? Jason, here is no way in hell that I would ever even consider thinking about you like that. You’re not my type in the slightest. In fact you’re kind of gross.”
Nicole didn’t mean to stare but she couldn’t pry her eyes away from the woman. Something about her looked so familiar but she couldn’t put her finger on it. Nikki felt as if she knew her but she couldn’t make a connection. She couldn’t just let it slide so she took it upon herself to approach her. “I’m sorry , this is going to sound weird, but do I know you?”

aaron dressed quickly as he put the phone on speaker. the music was loud and he could hear it clearly. “i know where that is. don’t you dare move.” picking up his car keys, aaron left his apartment. it was about an hour drive to where nicole was. slowing down, he kept an eye out before pulling up next to her as she sat on the sidewalk. leaning over, he opened the door or her. “get it and don’t complain about how long it took me to get here. fuck knows how you managed to end up out here.”
Nikki barley noticed how long it took for him to arrive. She ended up hugging her knees before dosing off for a bit once again, yet another reckless action. The sound of a car approaching woke her up and when she heard the familiar booming noise that was Aaron’s voice she rubbed her eyes as she got up and stumbled towards his car and sat herself inside. “I think some guy drove me here. Dunno.” She mumbled as she leaned back in the car seat.
marissa turned to face nicole and gave a small smile. “i’m afraid not..” she pursed her lips. she could feel the awkwardness fill the room. “you were drunk and called me so i just– i didn’t know where your brother’s were and i don’t know where you live so i brought you here..” the words were a mutter. “there’s water on the side there for you.” marissa stood slowly, arms folding as she did so. “you can take your time before you leave. i have painkillers too.” the witch didn’t want to really talk to her and she was sure that nicole didn’t want to speak to her, either. so it was just easier if the other left.
“I’m sorry you had to deal with that.” Nicole was quite aware that she was drinking to numb the guilt she felt but she didn’t plan on making any efforts to resolve the problem. “No, that’s alright. I’ve already been a burden.” She bit into her lip as she got herself out of bed. Looks like she’ll be doing the walk of shame in smeared makeup and last night’s dress. She picked up her heels from the floor but before she could brush past Marissa to leave, a sudden churning in her stomach halted her steps. “I meant what I said, by the way.” She spoke softly, refusing to make eye-contact. “I am sorry. For everything. I thought I was doing the right thing but--” A breath of a chuckle escaped her lips as she shook her head. “I know, I’m sorry, you don’t want to hear any of this. Thank you for taking care of me.” She looked up at her and smiled awkwardly before she side-stepped away from her and towards the door.
“why not? you need to push yourself out of your comfort zone more, my little nikki. be more daring. have fun. it’s a good job you’ve got me. or else you’d be a complete loser.”
“I have no desire to leave my comfort zone. I can have fun without a dress and heels. No, no you are the loser. I don’t even know why I hang out with you.”
she was perched on the edge of her bed. nicole was still asleep. tangled in the sheets. a drunken mess was what marissa had brought home. nicole mumbling on and on on how sorry she was. but she knew that the girl was just too drunk. not thinking correctly. mari wasn’t about to believe that anything was going to change. nicole had seemed pretty serious about her hurtful words. so marissa took them to heart. but of course, she couldn’t leave her in the state that she was. so the witch brought her home and put her to bed. there was a glass of water on the side, ready for consumption. marissa hoped that nikki would just wake up and leave. that no conversation would be had. she wasn’t sure her emotions could handle another confrontation. still sensitive after the last one.

To say she woke up with a headache would be an understatement. Nicole felt as if her head was about to explode from the pounding that went on. Her eyes opened slowly, taking longer than usual to adjust, but once she finally took in her surroundings she was confused. This wasn’t her bedroom. She sat herself up and when she caught a glimpse of the witch all the memories from last night flooded back. Drunk Nicole decided it would be a great idea to call Marissa and cry to her over the phone, blabbering how sorry she was. It was all true but one couldn’t exactly trust someone’s word when they can’t form coherent sentences. “So--” She spoke up, her throat was sore so her words came out in a raspy tone. “That wasn’t a dream then.”
aaron was asleep. not dreaming. a peaceful slumber. that was until the loud ringing of his phone obnoxiously woke him up. in his sleepy daze, he answered the phone. “what?” he mumbled, rubbing one eyes. “nicole?” sitting up, aaron frowned. “god sake. you’re so stupid. reckless. one day you’re going to end up dead.” obviously, he wasn’t to tired to scold her. “can you find out where you are? i suppose i’ll have to come and get you.”
"Give me a minute.” She had no energy to even address his scolding. Nikki stumbled out the room as she grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder. She remained silent as she made her way out of the house, the music was so loud she was sure Aaron could hear it on the line quite clearly. “Alright, I’m outside.” She yawned as she walked down the sidewalk and reciting the nearest street name she could find. “I’ll just sit on the sidewalk until you get here.” She mumbled before ending the call. Aaron would most likely yell at her during the car ride home so she decided to give herself some peace until then.

Nicole groaned as a pounding headache woke her up, she expected to see daylight but it was still pretty dark out. Judging by the loud music she fell asleep at some party, on some couch. Luckily she still had her phone with her. In her hungover state she accidentally called Aaron instead of Nate, only realizing her mistake when the elder of the two answered.
“Aaron?” She sighed as she rubbed at her eyes. “I need you to pick me up, please.” She didn’t even know what the time was, most likely the early hours of the morning. “I woke up at some party I don’t exactly remember going to and I feel awful...” Nicole hoped he wouldn’t make her walk home. She really didn’t want to have to explain to Nate how she didn’t call him first. “Please Aaron you know I wouldn’t ask if I could get home on my own.”
“ are you PRONE to bad ideas ? ”
“Nine times out of ten yeah, my plans are pretty awful. They still work though.”
