Bearing Witness- Marking 78 Years to the Events of Kristallnacht “the Night of Broken Glass”.
78 years ago today, the Nazi government led people to attack Jewish-owned businesses, buildings and synagogues throughout the country and in parts of Austria, at a time of intense discrimination of Jews, which included boycotting their businesses.
The attacks were called “Kristallnacht”: the “Night of Broken Glass” because of the shattered windows throughout the cities. Synagogues were burned, 91 Jews were murdered, and 30,000 Jews were arrested and taken to concentration camps simply because they were Jewish.
Let us never forget that the horrible crimes against humanity that occurred in WWII were not sudden, but a product of gradual and increasing persecution.
To those who lost their lives,We remember.
To those who survived, We hear you
To the next generation,We must never forget.
Today, November 9, 2018, is the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht.

Work-from-home Fridays is a huge perk of my job but it’s even better with my little schnoodles cuddled up next to me while I’m working :)

This daybed has magical powers :) We fell in love with it when we saw it @ a consignment shop last month. Had to wait for pay day on pins & needles hoping nobody would grab it before that. The day I called to pay for it they said it was due for a discount (!) & knocked a $100 off the already great price! It’s the most comfortable piece of furniture - aside from our bed - & it’s like a virtual oasis when you’re on it. Cares evaporate :) It’s changed my life :)

My paternal great-grandmother, Anna April Salzman. She came to the US in the late 1890s from Austria via Ellis Island. She & her husband, Kalman, carved out a life here, raising 6 children & running a saloon in Paterson, NJ. Whenever I listen to a waltz by Strauss, the romantic in me can’t help imagining them floating over a dance floor or even their kitchen floor to the Tales of the Vienna Woods. I celebrate her on this International Womens Day :)
