fujipokke is so interesting because sure there's a mentor/student thing going on but the fact fuji never wants it to end is what complicates it SO much. she has so much fight left in her. she has so much light left. and the part that always gets me is she KNOWS that. she knows she's a tragedy. and she's never willing to fucking give. she's playing all the stages of grief out of order so she can support her junior. she's fighting herself to milk out every last drop of her resolve so she can keep going. because she'd rather die than fade into obscurity from pokke's perspective. she wants to matter to her forever-- more than that, she wants to teach her forever. she never wants to relinquish the grip she has on her. she never wants to stop inspiring her, to stop being ahead, to stop leading the way. that's what separates her from a mentor or a parent. a mentor or parent waits with baited breath for the day they are surpassed. a rival, a friend, or a lover holds onto that relationship with an iron grip, and gives everything they have to not let it end. to richen it even more. that's what gets me about them. that's what GETS ME. brooo
