Addressing the rising tensions in the Toya fandom AGAIN.

It goes without saying that once and a while we're going to get events focused on NPCs. Haruka2 and Shizuku4 are both mostly about NPCs and while I don't like those events they are fine for what they are. I think the problem with VBS NPC events is how frequently they happen and how hard it is to tell a story like VBS's in a rhythm game.

The NPCs are needed to make the whole community of Vivid Street and for the shonen vibes but the problem with NPC focuses in a game like this is gacha pacing and how Sekai is set up. Characters don't get a focus and a comm every few months (with some exceptions) it's usually almost a year long wait and what happens during that wait? Expectations go insane, and people go hard with predictions on what they want to happen. Your favorite getting a big event only happens once and a while so naturally people are going to be mad when they waited a while for their favorite to get the spotlight only for it to not even be about them (this is also why people are so negative towards a lot of Kanade events). NPC focuses are doomed by the structure of this game to be received poorly, if the commissions and focus banners were advertised as more group focused as opposed to character focused this issue would most likely not exist because people would not go in expecting the event to be mostly about the character in question.

Does this mean they shouldn't do NPCs? No not at all, NPCs are needed in any gacha game story. On top of that L/N, WxS and Niigo all balance their NPCs near perfectly, even Ichika2 which put the NPCs in a major role was able to use it to show how Ichika wants to help people connect by using said NPC's story. It's just a really difficult balance for this game to strike and because of how the focuses in this game are set up outrage is going to occur whenever a characters focus isn't really about them (again this is also a Kanade event issue). I think people are more then allowed to be disappointed with this in mind, yes shonenism and making the VBS environment feel alive are important but when someones waited an entire year for a character to shine only for them to have their spotlight taken by an NPC said person is more then allowed to be mad at it. This isn't even exclusive to Toya either, this is about every character and the same also applies if the event is about another character in the unit or the comm having poor line distribution. This was an issue with Toya's WL chapter, Toya3, Kana5 and even Shiho5, it's ok for people to be upset when their oshis are overshadowed in what was supposed to be their event.

Oh yeah I'm sorry I haven't been posting as much! WL3 sadly killed a majority of my passion for Sekai and while I'll still always love it (and Toya) and have no intentions on stopping running this blog I feel like I have to apologize for not being as active as I used to be.

To add onto this (this is to explain why I'm not as active):

I've been feeling like Sekai is slowly getting worse and worse as time goes on. The cash grab WLs, CLPL forgetting to put cards in the dacha and refusing to refund people who spent millions and the fact that we're in the great filler arc of the story because Sega decided to prolong the endings as opposed to writing new content for the units after their stories were supposed to be concluded have all dampened my passion. Toya in particular is in a weird spot as he hasn't really gotten anything truly significant, let alone good, after TFC. So I'm sorry again for the lack of posts. I'll try to come up with new stuff soon.
