(( i’m super sorry for my inactivity but i really need to prove a point to an off-tumblr friend? He says that reposting, tracing or using other people’s art without permission is okay if it’s fanart and by using existing characters they give the public full rights to the piece itself. I know this isn’t true and it makes me so mad but I’m horrible at arguing, can anyone give me their own experiences or some good points to make? It’s really infuriating me by this point that he’s just dragging art for his YouTube videos straight out of google images and not bothering to credit or even acknowledge the artists behind them.))

it's never okay to steal or repurpose other people's art without permission and credit, because you never know how long they spent on it and how much time and love and emotion they poured into it. it's like saying you don't respect what they do, what they love, how they feel/think or who they are, because you don't see the harm in passing their hard work off as yours or as a faceless Someone's. that fanart may be the culmination of decades of love & support of something, and then you take 5 seconds to walk all over the effort and time it took? never okay.
