“D’you think I could record in here during the auction? Or would that be rude?”
“I was the same when I first made main stream. It takes a few matches to get into the swing of things and really feel comfortable with it, but he will get there, as all of us do.”
“As I say there is a degree of skill involved that people underestimate, especially once we near closer to the end of the season and there may be more tactics involved in making sure that you finish the match on the number of points that you need. Yes, though, it is a lot of points for something that can be swayed a lot by luck, especially if the two Seekers are at a similar skill level.”
“Oh, I’m sure. It’s like anything, I guess. You get used to it over time.”
“Games can be so interesting, points-wise. Alright, let’s move on. I have some fan questions. BatBabe asks, ‘do you do anything particular to get ready for a big game?’”
Not Quite The Same | Dani & Allora
holyheadharpy-allora:
All of the fear that had set into Allora’s heart shed away like dust being swept away by the wind, as soon as she found out that she was being paired with someone she knew the world returned to glory.
It was almost embarrassing now, the auction wasn’t that frightening, even if she hadn’t gotten Dani she would have surely been alright.. But even so luck was on her side. She remembered meeting Dani, how they both looked during their first years, and all of the anxiety washed away. It wasn’t fair to the others in the auction, but she was the lucky one; She got to hang out with an old friend and call it charity work, it was a dream. She pushed on the door, before correcting herself and pulling instead, finally getting it open and glancing around until she found Dani. A smile perked up as she saw her sitting there, cold drink in hands, talking to the camera, and she made her way over with a skip in her step, a small smile on her lips as she stayed out of the shot. “’Danisaurs’?“ She asked the second the button was tapped. “I’ve been keeping up with your channel since it started, yet every time I planned to ask you about that I forgot to.” She placed her bag down beside her and got comfortable at the table, leaning forward on her elbows and propping her chin on her hands. “This day is going to be just like the old times. I can’t believe the luck, I didn’t even realize you were going to enter the auction.. Did you bribe someone to get my company?” She joked, folding a napkin as she spoke.
Dani laughed, “Honestly, I’m not sure,” she said, “I think somehow said it in the comments and I thought it was cute, so I ran with it.”
“I know! I’m excited.” she shook her head in amusement at Allora’s comment, “Just luck. And yeah, it was a kind of last minute thing. Witch Weekly’s trying to get in my good books so they decided to pay half of however much I spent at the auction. Let’s just say that people are spending tremendous amounts at these auctions.”
“So,” she said, sipping some of her frozen hot cocoa, “I have some ideas for today, but if you would rather just wing it, I’m cool with that, too. I need to make sure I film some bits, but I don’t need much.”
A waitress came by to ask if they wanted anything and Dani looked over at Allora, “D’you want to get breakfast here, or we could go wander around and find someplace else?”
“So. What exactly are the expectations on the player for this thing? Because I’ve seen this in movies, but those always end in like. Legitimate dates, and that’s super uncomfortable.”
Dani bit her lip, “I haven’t done it before either. But from some of the pieces Hazel and such have done in past years, I think it’s just that you spend a day with them doing whatever. If you’re uncomfortable with anything, just text me and I’ll get you out of there.”
“Of course I made a bid tonight. What kind of public figure would I be if I didn’t? It’s for children, after all.”
“Calm down! I was just asking! Who’d you get paired up with then?”
Not Quite The Same | Dani & Allora
Dani hadn’t known what to expect with the charity auction. Although she would have been pleased to spend the day with any of the players, the auction had exceeded her expectations and she was overjoyed to have been paired up with Allora. Not only would this be a good chance to catch up with her friend, but it would also allow her to do a vlog for her channel, and make Allora’s first outside the pitch Quidditch experience a fun one. Today would be just like the summer fun they’d had in previous years before either of them had actual jobs or people who obsessed over them.
Dani had texted Allora to meet her at a cafe in Diagon Alley, and as she waited, frozen hot chocolate in hand, she scrolled through her phone, replying to comments. Most of them were super sweet or questions that she could quickly tap out a reply to, but some were absolutely gross. She honestly didn’t understand some people. She wrinkled her nose as she came to a particularly nasty one, and clicked to delete it. Deciding she’d had enough of replies, she pulled out her camera, and started her vlog.
“Good morning, danisaurs! As some of you may know, a few days ago there was an auction for charity to spend a day with an anonymous Quidditcher, which I participated in. And today, I’m going to vlog some of my day with my super special friend. I’m waiting for them right now, but once they arrive we’ll get properly started, and you’ll see what life outside the pitch is like.” Seeing Allora, Dani decided it was best to wrap up this piece of her recording, “Pause right now, and comment who you think it’s going to be!”
Pressing her camera’s button, she turned towards her friend with a wide grin. “Hey! How excited are you for today? Because personally I think this is going to be fantastic.”
“You can go ahead. If there’s anything afterwards that I’m uncomfortable with, I’ll be sure to let you know.”
“Okay, excellent. Is it okay if I start filming?”
“I like to think I have that effect on most mums, personally, so it’s good to know my inclination is correct this time around.”
“The girl’s always nervous about her Chasing, I swear. She’s better than I ever was at it already, but she doesn’t believe it when I say it. I’d bet she’ll enjoy someone else to fly with that’s not her da.”
Dani laughed, “You probably do.”
“People never believe their family. I remember one time when Joe was flying...,” her voice faded as unpleasant memories resurfaced, “Well, if she gets to main string, which I’m sure she will, make sure to tell me when her games are and I’ll stop by Hogwarts for them.”
“Yes, of course, of you. You’re Dani Sky, right? The one behind the famous SpellTube channel. Your interviews are practically legendary already.”
“The majority of them are players and owners, of course, but I’m working on getting them to mention some of the more important media presences as well, since you know. You’re part of the force behind the fame and all.”
“Yes, dailydani. Thank you, that means a lot to me. Sometimes I’m blown away by how many people know about my videos.”
“Oh, wow. That’s great. You’re...” she paused a minute, trying to remember her name, “Maritza Ruiz, right? I’ve seen some of your photos. They’re excellent.”
“Oh, I’ll look at Cris Pratt alright. Any time, any day. That is one good looking man.”
“Where are you going with this?”
“I don’t even know why I try with you sometimes, Laurien Shafiq.”
“How can you be so derogatory about a person you’ve hardly had a chance to get to know? Have you even had a one-on-one conversation with her?
“And he is especially new to the professional side of Quidditch, where there is a lot more pressure. As a Seeker, I have no doubt that he has the skills, but dealing with crowd, press and fan pressure is a whole different ball game, so nerves are always the main thing to watch out for in players who are new to the League. I do remember, and it is important to remember as well that while more skill goes into Seeking than some people like to imply, there is a spot of luck involved in where the Snitch appears in relation to the two Seekers, and how easy it is at the time for the Beaters to intercept them. It is almost impossible for a Seeker to have a perfect record, and I am always very careful to never underestimate the underdogs as a result.”
“Exactly. That’s what I’ve tried to tell him. But, he never listens to me properly.”
“I’ve always found it fascinating how Seeking is the most unpredictable and luck based aspect of the game, and yet it has the possibility to change the score very dramatically. Somehow that doesn’t seem very fair, but I guess that’s life.”
“I…am afraid I do not know Miss Nyqvist well enough to comment.”
“Well, I’m sure you’ll get to know one another as time goes on. She seems very capable from what I’ve heard. So, do you have anything else you’d like to tell the fans, or shall we end it? I know you’re a very busy man and I’d hate to take up more time than necessary.”
“No, I haven’t brushed my hair today and I really don’t plan on it, either.”
“You look lovely, as always. I doubt anyone can tell. I certainly couldn’t.”
“Would you mind if I snapped a couple pictures? Quarterly’s still looking for profiles, and the Prophet has a new bit coming out about the season’s start.”
Dani looked around, before realizing the woman was speaking to her, “Of me?” she asked, “I- yes, I suppose so.”
“I thought the profiles were only about the players and owners?”
“…The Harpies.”
“....Ah. Well, they’re certainly very good...”
“Excellent chasers...”
“Oh yes, he does. But I’m certain he can handle it.”
“I am as well. He certainly played well with the Kestrels. By the way, what are your thoughts on the new owner and manager of the Ballycastle Bats?”
“Thank you, I appreciate that. It’s nice to meet you Dani. I’ve seen some of your interviews, they’re brilliant.”
“Thank you. You don’t know how much that means to me, especially coming from you. I have a list of a few base questions here, if you want to read them, so you’re prepared for those at least. Though I tend to use those a bare skeleton, so most of the questions will be on the spot. But, just so you’re aware, I always tell my interviewees this, if you say something you’d rather I edit out, just let me know and I’ll do so, no questions asked.”
