EVASIVE ACTION: BULLYING
Bullying is not merely to be ignored; its prevalence affects every person’s social being and leads to further degradation of personhood. It is no laughing matter because everyone experiences it. Teenagers particularly are the most affected. With the advancement in technology, the idea of cyber bullying even sprouted. Thinking that bullying only affects psychosocial aspect of an individual is incorrect. It casts a long shadow which engulfs one’s life into negative consequences towards jobs, health and long-term relationships. It is not just an issue but a major problem that needs to be addressed.
It is prevalent in schools that campaigns against bullying are implemented. As it lessens the cases but it is not enough to guarantee for it to stop. Why do people bully? Why are they being bullied? What did they even do to make them treat that way? That has always been a question for the majority. Some might even think it is because of their pasts, their appearances so on and so forth but some sees it as a psychological illness. It’s like a chain reaction; it starts with the “bully” who spreads issues maliciously towards a person leading others to degrade them. Influence plays a role towards this process. Bullying does not only involve physical damage but also, it can be categorized to being verbal and psychological and of course, in the cyber world.
According to http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-23756749, the study tracked more than 1,400 people between the ages of nine and 26.School bullies were also more likely to grow up into adult criminals. The study, from Warwick University in the UK and Duke University in the US, concludes bullying should not be seen as "a harmless rite of passage". The long-term impact of bullying in childhood was examined through the experiences of three different groups - those who had been bullied, those who had carried out the bullying and those who had been both victims of bullying and had also carried out bullying themselves.
Briefly, to conclude this insight, bullying degrades a person’s life. If one has a perception that bullying does not infest an individual, well he/she is mistaken. Purely, it destroys a person’s capability to show who he/she really is. He/she is deprived of being listened, for others to hear what he/she is about to say. Since bullying obstructs it, others tend to go under emotional distress. It is not a matter of time that slowly, their psychological aspect will be consumed with despair and negativity.
