Alex Claremont-Diaz is arguably the most skilled pediatric trauma surgeon Henry has ever worked with.

He’s also kind to their patients. Henry’s seen him squeeze a child’s hand while wheeling the bed off to pre-op, or kneel on the floor next to the family after a long and futile resuscitation. He’s always respectful toward Henry’s team, and he always returns to debrief with them after he’s through with each case in the OR.

And now Alex is here, standing in front of Henry’s workstation, in a pair of salmon scrubs that look tailor-made for his body, somehow. It’s really rather obscene, the fabric hugging his chest just-so, the deep vee, the faint hint of dark hair, and it’s all quite a lot, frankly, for Henry to be faced with at half-three in the morning.

“Dr. Claremont-Diaz,” says Henry, making a point to barely glance up from his computer. “I wasn’t aware we had a trauma coming.”

“We don’t,” shrugs Alex. “I was just bored.”

in 2023, ahead of the release of the film adaptation of Casey McQuiston's Red, White & Royal Blue, i wrote a series of posts giving context to references they used in the novel. while we wait for the release of the second film, i spent pride month reposting the posts that contextualise the things alex mentions in chapter 7 when coming to understand his connection to the queer community and history as someone who is newly identifying as a bisexual man. the tag i used was "elio is talking about queer history".

summary:

It takes Alex a few moments to recognize what they're watching. The Prince and Me. It's been a few years years since he and June watched this for the first time. June had rented it from Family Video and that night, she put it on the pink TV in her bedroom for them. Alex would usually complain about having to watch "girl movies" but it doesn't mean he ever sat them out. Especially if he also got to hang out in June's room. He remembers thinking Julia Stiles was really pretty. He also remembers hiding his flustered face during all the kissing scenes while June teased him. Julia Stiles is still really pretty. Alex likes the waves in her short hair. But something else catches his attention. Prince Edvard. Tawny blond hair, blue eyes, strong jaw, broad shoulders, dazzling smile. He looks like—
