DAILY PHOTO PROJECT

I'd never be up to doing something like daily vlogging, but a photo a day, that's not too much to ask. It's also a great way to develop your photo-taking skills and composition.

Taken in Palanga, a Lithuanian seaside resort as the sun went down. I didn’t feel particularly happy at the time, since my original holiday plans couldn’t go ahead because of covid. Still, I coudn’t complain because I hadn’t been affected too badly at all. Knowing that I would be going with my mum and my sister and it was going to be a quiet time, I decided that I would use the opportunity to take some photos with Fuji Velvia 50. This was back in August but only recently did I develop the photos.

Taken with my Zorki 4 Rangefinder Camera and a Jupiter 8 lens. This is Ilford HP5 ISO 400 film. I home developed and scanned it. This was on the first day that it snowed in London. I had just got out from a 1 hour German lesson. I remember a Chinese girl in the class squealed and then ran to the window saying she hadn’t ever seen snow before in her life. A Lithuanian girl sat next to me said she didn’t really care because she had seen snow so many times before. Our teacher is Austrian, having grown up in a country famed for its Alpine skiing resorts she probably wasn’t too phased by a 2cm layer of snow on top of a mouldy bit of pavement visible down below through the window. I looked through the window and said Oh wow. It was snowing quite hard.

This was taken with my Canon AE1 and colour film, I think it was Truprint ISO 200 expired film. This was when it was snowing in London and the sun was setting. My fingers were so cold I couldn’t actually feel the shutter so I didn’t know if I had taken the photo or not

This was taken a few years ago but I only recently got it developed. It was taken with Fuji Velvia 50 slide film in the Baltic Republic of Lithuania. This little known country is a small member of the European Union that lies along the Eastern Coast of the Baltic Sea. Along the coastline is a large nature reserve with dedicated cycle paths for people to cross the reserve without harming wildlife. Apart from some great photo opportunities along the gold sandy beaches found in the area are some fantastic landscapes found in the forests themselves. One day we took a bike ride, about 30 kilometers and I used the opportunity to take some shots with my zorki 4 rangefinder and Industar 50mm lens.

This was also taken with my Canon AE1 and Kodak Colourplus 200 film. It is a picture of the oldest pub in London and was going to be an entry for my university’s night photography competition but developing took too long. I quite like the colours in this photograph!

The thing is it was exams and I was revising like crazy, I didn’t really cook or clean properly and it was at THIS time that the room inspection decided to come. I don’t live in halls but flats for students so they have all the humiliating bells and whistles that halls come with.

Taken with a Canon AE1 and Kodak Colourplus 200 in a dimly lit pub. This is Charlton although he calls himself Charlie and he’s a good friend of mine. We study the same course at university and sometimes we meet for a pint and discuss the latest banter about our course and all the departmental mishaps that it has faced in recent times. This particular time Chris was going off on a long one about nostalgia of his childhood in the early 2000s and the look on Charlton’s face says it all.

Canon AE1 and Kodak Colourplus 200. When it was snowing really hard, a friend of mine and I decided to meet up in the centre of London with out cameras and see if we could get any good pictures. We ended up walking around the Southbank and then going to a pub that served food and it was a ripoff.

Taken with a Canon AE1 and Kodak Colourplus 200 film. Here in the UK we had a bit of a mini blizzard. One particular evening the sun shone out of the clouds at sunset giving this really nice golden feel to the urban scenery around. One memorable thing about this place is the Thameslink station. I used it sometimes to get home except some of the trains would go to the same terminus but would miss out a bunch of stations including the one I needed to get off at so I would end up like 30 miles outside of London. I remember sitting there and hearing the train’s engine start to roar and thinking, hangon why are we accelerating then realising I was speeding out of London at 100mph with no ticket except the London-only oyster card. When the train got to the next station about 30 mintues later, I quickly ran to the next train and managed to sneak onto the next train back. Funnily enough I have made this same mistake twice.

The day before my mid-term exams. This photograph was taken on the evening before an important January exam with my Canon AE1. I stood the camera on an upturned bucket . I did terribly in the exam, but not because I didn’t revise. I worked my arse off during the term but that isn’t what counts. If you want to succeed at school/university you have to be smart about how you learn. I never really paid attention to the quality of my notes or really understanding the topics at hand. You can read 7 chapters a week for a particular module but if you don’t actually reflect and think about what you’re reading, it goes in one ear and out the other.

This is Chris with his pint. Chris is the head motorsport journalist at my university and he runs a radio show every week on KCL radio where he talks about motorsport news, motorsport history and does phone interviews. This year he introduced me to the radio station and I was able to join him as a regular co-presenter on his show Fast Friday. One particular evening the radio station manager put our show at 9-10PM. Our lectures finished at 6 so we headed to the student bar on the 4th floor of an old concrete building overlooking the Thames. We all got pretty drunk and ended up throwing a rave party with some other presenters in the studio. Its a miracle we weren’t kicked off the air.
