Reflection 8 technology class

(TELL) or Technology-enhanced language learning deals with the impact of technology on teaching and learning a second language. Technology-enhanced language learning refers to the use of the computer as a technological innovation to display multimedia as a means of complementing teaching method language teachers. What's important to note is that TELL is not a teaching method but rather an approach that can be used alongside a teaching method to help teach.

One way a student can learn English using to the technology is, playing games obviously in English. On the internet there are a lot of different games to practice the four skills and they are very good. Another way is listening music and singing the song, with this the students can practice vocabulary, pronunciation and listening and the other way is watching videos with the lyrics of a song, doing this the students will practice reading and vocabulary.

The ideas that I read on the articles were similar to mines but the most innovated ideas that I found on the articles according to high school students is blogging and using skype, because the teenagers love to communicate with the world and I think that this will definitely will help them to use English in a fun way.

Reflection 7 technology class

On the page that I visit, I read to different articles. The first one was, “Why it’s important to learn about the sounds in English”. This article was very interesting because it talks about identifying different sound and different vowels and also says that we don’t have to guess the pronunciation of a word, we have to listen first of how a teacher or a native person pronouns the word, and then say it how he or she say it. This is a very good tip and I will definitely use it. The other article that I read was “Why you should study English pronunciation”, in my opinion, this article is very interesting and also very useful, because it really makes you think about your pronunciation and that no matter what, you have to improve it because if you don’t, a native person will never understand what you are saying. According to the exercise that I did on the page I really have to improve my writing and reading with symbols because I didn’t pass those exercise, and about my pronunciation I have to be more careful with the vowels and pronouns it correctly. In the oral English class the activity of reading a story was very useful for me because it help me with my pronunciation.

Reflection 6 technology class

In my opinion, the attendance audience for Cristina’s blog is every learner, could be teenagers, adults and can even be practiced by kids obviously with an adult supervising the work. From my perspective this blog is one of the best blogs that I’ve seen. First of all, the best thing is that in the same blog, you can practice all the skills doing exercise. Another good thing in this blog is that you can do the exercise by the level that you think that you are in. You can choose A2, B1 or B2. From what I saw in her personal information, she is an adult teacher, so that’s why everything in her blog is so good. You can choose different exercise and different subject to practice. You can find vocabulary, plan lessons, quizzes and more. The listening part is very interesting because you can hear a song and under the video song, there are the lyrics and you have to complete the words that are missing. For the reading part you can find different text about different subjects, and if you don’t know a word, it teaches you how to write it, what it means and even how to use it in a phrase. For the writing, first it teaches you how to do elaborated texts, for example a summarize. And for the speaking, it teaches you how to pronounce the vowels, the consonants, the diphthongs and more. This website is very useful and I think that it can also help me when I become a teacher.

Reflection 5 technology class

In my case, when I want to search information more efficiently in google, I write on searcher exactly what I want to search, for example if I want to search about kinds of lipstick I put on google “different kinds of lipstick” and no more word than that. I also search on images, because there is so much information that doesn’t appear on the web and also because the information is more summarize.

After watching the video I learn that there’s so many ways to search information like a “pro”. For example, if you want to search for an exact phrase or quote, you just have to put the phrase in quotation marks and you will find exactly what you are looking for. Another tip that I learn was about searching phrases when you don’t know some part of the phrase. In this case you only have to put asterisk where the word is missing and google will find it.

According to the videos that I saw, there’s a lot of ways to know if the information in a website is real or no. One way to know this is when in a paragraph or things like that appear who wrote it, because for example in Wikipedia, everybody can write in an anonymous way, so you will not know who wrote it and if the information is real. Another way to know this, is for example if it comes from an http tag is usually more secure and also a "safe" website will display a green padlock icon to the left of the website's URL saying “secure”.

About my epal friend, it was really easy for me to find it and I felt very shocked because of that. He is been very nice with me and he agrees to help me in my project.

Reflection 4 technology class

The therm of digital native and digital immigrant were originated in Prensky in 2001. Digital native refers to the people that born with the technology, like us, the teenagers and the digital immigrants are the adults that have to learn how to use the technology and obviusly they have more trouble using it. 

One diference between this two concepts is that digital native know a lot more about technology than the digital immigrants. Because they are more  familiarize with this. Another difference from my point of view is that the digital native use the technolgy for do many things at the same time, they multitask and in the case of digital immigrants they use it just for what they need and they know how to do just one task at the time. Digital native also prefer to learn with videos, music and stuffs like that and the digital immigrants prefer written instructions. The last difference between this is that digintal native people enjoy receiving fast and short information and in the case of the digital immigrants read every possible information.

From my perspective a digital immigrant can turn into a digital native, in the sense of knowing. Because if you dedicate to navigate and to discover things of the technology, you might even know more than a digital native person knows

Reflection 3 technology class

In the case of WhatsApp, I think that it applies every function. Because you can share videos, images, audios, documents, location and more. You can share and also receive things, with this you can have or start a conversation and the best thing is that it doesn’t matter how many words you use, because it doesn’t have a limitation of words, so you can express everything that you want and is all personal.  In this social media you can also see if who you are talking to is available, and ready to speak with you. From my point of view, in WhatsApp is more relevant the conversation function because is all about talk.

On the other hand we have Facebook; this social media is similar to WhatsApp but is more open to everyone, more public. Because everybody will see what you are going to post. Obviously you can put your account on private, but still, every friend that you have in your account will see your posts, what you share, what you liked and what you comment.  From my perspective, here the most relevant function is sharing and in a more public way.

Another social media is Instagram. Here you can mostly share photos and videos and you can also have a conversation with other people but that function is not that relevant as it is on WhatsApp. In this app the most relevant function from my opinion, it is the sharing as well as Facebook.

In my personal case, is more important to have a conversation and chat,  because you can communicate with whoever you want and also to see if people is available to speak.

Reflection 2 technology class

Today I got the chance to get to know about a lot of different forums, Just like The Student Room. Here you can discuss about universities, lifestyle, health and more. It is totally free and you can also search about study resources, like mind maps, notes and more. I think that it can be very useful for students.

I also see the Dog Forum, and this forum is for dog lovers. Here you can participate in chats about puppies; you can ask and answer as many questions as you want and also you can share you experience. It is a really great forum.

I watch a third forum, and its call “veggie Boards”. This forum is dedicated to vegetarian people obviously, where you can find vegetarian food, food routines, and vegetarian support. In my point of view, this forum is very interesting if you want to change your food style.

I´ve heard about a website in Chile that is call El rincón del Vago, and it is very similar to The Student Room, because here you can also search about information for students, such as, test, documents, and more. But here you can also upload your own documents, so you have differences and similarities.

Reflection 1 technology class

I think that technology has aspects that are good and some of them are really bad. It's good for students to search information at any time because with just one “click” you can have all the information that you want and that you need.

But on the other hand technology can be a bad tool for students, because they can see inappropriate content, they will lose the ability to think and also to be creative because they will search everything on the internet and I think that on the schools will promote the social inequality because not all of the students have cell phones, computers or the internet at their houses.

So for me, technology is a good tool if you use it carefully and obviously not abuse of this powerful weapon.
