The other thing that I figure out is that Captain Pike is smart enough to realize that his greatest resource, his greatest tool, is his crew, which is what makes him say to the bridge, ‘I’m lost. You got any ideas?’ Which I think is a superpower of a kind. It makes for great bridge scenes but it also allows him to go to Burnham and say, ‘Okay. You know this crew better than I do and we need to trust each other.’ So, I think, in a way, it was give and take and she was as much a mentor to him as he was to her.
