It reminded him of a state museum with how professionally decorated the place was. It could be a perfect date spot.
Xiao fiddled with the earphones in his ear as he moved on from art piece to art piece. He knew yours was a painting and by the signs up ahead, he was nearing the painting section.
There were a lot more paintings displayed than sculptures and contemporary art pieces. It took him a while to get to the end of the section.
The next painting was yours. He could tell from where he stood. He recognized his own green and black hair though vague.
Should he really look? What is he hoping to achieve by coming here? He had mulled over such questions the whole night yet he could never find an answer.
Do not let their sacrifice go in vain.
Xiao’s hands clenched. He had lived like this for forever and although he can see how wrong it was, to stop a habit is difficult. He didn’t know how to change or where to start but seeing this, gave him a moment of clarity.
The painting was gorgeous. It sounds wrong coming from him seeing as he was the subject of the piece but even he could not deny what you had done.
He had always associated himself with black and har
sh colors yet you said otherwise. He looked nothing like the person he always saw in the mirror. Cold, sharp, dark. The Xiao in your painting was soft, light and at peace—something he had never dreamed to be of.
He was asleep with your opaque curtains fluttering in front of him as if it was trying to protect him from the harsh light of the sun.
Peace. He looked at peace—for the first time in his life he wasn’t in chaos.
So this was how he looked in your eyes?
His hands loosened and subconsciously started to raise, itching to touch the art you have crafted.
“You’re not supposed to touch paintings, son.”
Xiao turned his head to the old man standing beside him.
He had a cane and was quite short—shorter than him. His grayed hair and squinted eyes reminded him of those typical asian grandfathers seen in films and mangas.
“Though I do not blame you,” the old man stared at your painting with a smile. “Ms. Y/N did a fantastic job this time.”
Hearing your name made his heart beat faster.
“That child had a problem trying to find her own unique art style but I’m glad to see she has finally found it.” The old man chuckled heartily and glanced at him. “It seems to me it was thanks to a certain young man.”
Xiao hid his blushing face with the back of his hand. He recognized him.
The old man laughed more. “Ah, to be young again.” He starts to walk away with his can as he murmurs, “I should visit my wife today.”
Xiao felt irritated that a complete stranger managed to tease him but what he said lingered.
“It was thanks to a certain young man.”
He looked back at the painting.
And soon she might not anymore because of his stupidity.
