“Dissapointed in what now?”
“Today? Everything. I guess today, the professors are high on my list for today,”
s-norman:
“That’s nice, princess. Why don’t you go tell someone who cares?”
“Oh, I’m so sorry. I must have mistaken you for someone who cares. You have that kind of face, you know. You could fix that.”
isaaxgreen:
“Because of me or in me? Because I’m not happy about either of those but one is slightly better than the other.”
“Which one would you prefer?”
vespira-fontaine:
“I know. I could have spent that time practicing for the match!”
“Exactly! If I had known it was going to be easy, I could have done so many other things. I swear, if I don’t get a good mark, I’m going to be upset. All of that time wasted over a bad mark... I’m getting upset thinking about it.”
vespira-fontaine:
“I know. For as much hype as Professor Rosier gave that test, it was kind of easy, wasn’t it?”
“It’s almost like he told us it was going to be hard, just so we would all actually study. I’m calling a conspiracy theory.”
“I have to say, I’m extremely disappointed.”
Ella and Connor James had the picture perfect story. They fell in love at a young age, while they were still in school, and knew even then that they would be together forever. They were married not long after graduation, and within a few short years had a beautiful little baby boy, Riley. Unable to tame their happiness and joy at finally starting their family, their second child, Dakota, was born not long after, followed by two more children over the next couple of years. They had a perfect family life, their small home filled with love and laughter and nights spent together by the fire. The only thing missing from their lives was financial stability. More than that, they were poverty-stricken, usually only able to scrape enough money together for absolute necessities. They made the best out of it, but it was especially hard on their children.
Although Dakota tried to hide it from her parents, she was often looked down upon and made fun of by the other children in school. She saved whatever money she was able to get her hands on in order to buy herself the clothing that the other children were wearing in the hopes that it would put a stop to the bullying. Afraid to let the friends she’d made over to her house, she spent a lot of time with her siblings, forming a close knit bond she was determined not to let anything get in the way of. If they needed it, Dakota would give any of of them the shirt off her back without a second thought.
When Dakota’s Ilvermorny letter came just before her 11th birthday, the family was shocked. They never suspected magic could ever have been real, let alone in the family. That summer her parents worked harder than ever, staying overtime and skimping on more than they ever had before in order to save enough money to buy her all the needed supplies. Sad to leave her parents on September 1st, she steeled herself as she stood on the platform alone, watching them quickly make their way back to their own platform in order to get home and get back to her siblings. She decided then and there that the letter from Ilvermorny, the one that she had carried in her pocket from home, was a blessing to her and her family. This was her chance to help make a better future for the six of them.
Once she arrived at the castle, she threw herself into her coursework with fervor, thinking solely of her family as she spent late nights in the library, poring over her scrolls by the dull light of the library’s lanterns. Dakota often blames herself for bad marks, no matter how hard she studied or how much she knows about the subject - as all she can see in anything less than perfect is the status quo for her family, and she strives for so much better. Still sensitive to the subject of money, she found it easier to make lasting friendships with her classmates at the castle, now that playdates at her house were all but impossible she had much less to hide from them. However, as graduation approaches, she’s worried that all her work isn’t enough - that she’s made a mistake somewhere, and she won’t be able to help her family as much as they deserve.
