I referred it once, when I was talking to Steph, and she called me the weirdest imp she knew. 

If you think about it, the beauty of Night Vale is that it can be applied to the most mundane of happenstances, that occurred dozens of times before, but only now do you see the beautiful and terrible meaning behind it. And telling you these things is the smooth, sonorous voice of Cecil Baldwin.

I advise you to not ask me questions that I'm sure you know I won't answer. I don't see why I would begin to tell you about the extent of my power or the details of my limits. You should already be aware of what you're supposed to be aware about of my family and I.

To be honest, I do believe you're somewhat of an odd fellow... but--I didn't know there was a term for us!--as we Night Valeians know as well as anyone else, the weirdness demands to be embraced!

It was Spirit + Homecoming Week, and I'm a part of the team responsible for getting all of that stuff done. After finishing homework and eating something, I'll be here.

The manner in which I speak hardly grants me the title of philosopher. I find that thorough thinking and exact words do wonders for proper communication.

That's usually how it happens. Eventually, I'll be able to familiarize myself with the rest of Camden's residents.

My primary duty lies in the creation of lives. I dictate the start of someone's existence. Knowing that, I'm sure you'll see the reason in my job as a maternity ward nurse at Camden's hospital.

You did! Classics are the black and whites, if we’re talking about that era, I’d have to say Nightmare on Elm Street was my favorite series. But Hellraiser was pretty fucking ace as well! I just love Freddy, terrifying yet sassy as all hell and hilarious at the same time. It was perfection, and scared the daylights out of me as a kid! The ones that scared me the most and still gives me the creeps are: Night of the Living Dead (not the 60’s one), Children of the Corn (The first one), and the Nightmare on Elm Street films. That was nightmare worthy, I still hate the sound of nails on chalkboard thanks to Freddy!

And here I thought we were talking about the big picture. Of course once you get down to the gritty little details my attention is completely focused. No one person’s life is exactly the same as another.

I know! I know. I still find it incredible how you're able to succeed with that. I never doubted your abilities before, and I won't start to now.

The "big picture" does seem bleak, huh? The same cycles of creation followed by the bits in the middle before finally being destroyed, I mean. I understand why you might think of Camden to be the same way. The only difference is that most of us in Camden have the extra advantage of being aware of it all--the cycles, the new and old, and etcetera.

Oh, I see. Well, you phrased it so suggestively! I have no clue what the delivery process is like, but it’s awesome to picture these nurses drinking coffee in the middle of it like badasses, complete with sunglasses. And they kind of are. I wonder what percentage of people, male and female, would freak the eff out if they were just dropped into that situation. That takes some real guts.

That’s true… but it’s our job to keep the world in balance, keep it the same as it always was. They go around changing everything. That’s their job, and they’re damn good at it, too, considering that they don’t even know it’s their job.

I guess I look at us in a little bit of a bias, because we know everything we need to know to do what we do. They don’t. They just kind of fumble around in the dark not knowing if they’re in a closet or under a deep, dark sky. But they don’t let it get to them. They just carry on, regardless of the implacable backdrop of stars and void that swallows the soundtrack of their lives with no second thoughts and no memories to preserve.

I feel obliged to apologize for giving you a false image, but however unprofessional sunglass-wearing nurses casually drinking White Chocolate Mochas in the maternity ward sounds like, it's overridden by how badass I truly think that might look. You're welcome to test out whether or not you're part of that faint-of-heart percentage.

I won't admit to having a little bias. Embodying neutrality in all aspects denies me that. Though, I will say that I have never heard Night Vale referenced to in such a perfect, relevant instance.

You misunderstand me. I mean us, immortals. the majority of Camden’s population. We stay the same. We only change after humans; we use their new inventions, we live in their houses, we follow them. But we don’t go anywhere unless they lead us by the nose.

You insult me! At the hospital, we sometimes have nurses-in-training to bid our every whim in exchange for the opportunity to gain workplace experience. I scooted back into a teenager sipping on her coffee, who was also leaning uncomfortably close to me as I was doing my job. It's an interesting story, but I still can't believe that the woman in labor was more concerned with an impossible stain than the health of her baby.

Oh, right, I get where you're coming from. You make immortals sound horribly dependent. I say there are bigger things in the world needing managing instead of inventing. You see, in the gist of it all, we're responsible for weighing down the entire process of a general existence no matter whose team you play on--Heaven or Hell, and the forces of fate. You say that we follow them, but they follow us without even knowing they are. It's a two-way thing,

Funnily enough, I've been told the same by a couple of other people since I've arrived.

By paying a little more attention to the development of the people around you, you'd be surprised to see that something does occur within the environment and in personalities.

...then again, I know better than to ask you to "pay attention" to detail.
