#HistoryLesson 1534 ------------------ The flag of Qosqo, was the first "Rainbow Flag" of the Americas. Ironically enough, after the flag was taken by LGTBQ groups, American Indians in South America had to redesign their own original flag so as to not be confused with the LGTBQ movement which had gained more global attention than South American Indians had ever received. The Flag of Qosqo, King Atahualpa's flag represent pride in indigenous, and a commitment to fight colonialism, yet I have seen more Ecuadorians, Bolivians, Colombians, and Peruvians rally around his flag only when it represents solidarity and victory for the gay community, than within their own heritage and struggles. While I support our LGTBQ wholeheartedly, and this post in no way is meant to detracts them from their struggles, victory, and achievements, as a indigenous person who has seen his family, friends, and people repress and deny their ancestral heritage, it is a very bitter-sweet experience to see South Americans use this flag in celebrations and solidarity on their banners, profile pictures on Facebook (Twitter), and cover photos for the first times in their lives. #Peru #SouthAmerica #RainbowFlag #Truth #Appropriation #Qosqo #1920s
