Hot take but I think people treat Cherry becoming real friends with Ponyboy at the end as the only way she can absolve her sins. Rather than it being genuine connection or want from either of them.

At long last! Here it is.

For Dally, being good isn’t enough. He wants to be recognized. After missing at his last event he runs the arena and his friends patience thin.

Or, Dally gets injured practicing for the rodeo.

Steve would love his portrayal. “Kid called me smart, talked about how I’m good with cars and liftin hubcaps, and how my girl cried over me when I got hauled in by the fuzz. And he even admitted that he’s a tagalong!”

I like to imagine Bob’s funeral sucked in the sense that it wasn’t about him it was about how his parents perceived him. It was like fancy but there was nothing that Bob would have would have wanted. It was just a show off. Like non of his friends were allowed to give speeches.

Now compare that to Dally’s and Johnny’s funeral. I don’t imagine it would have been a proper funeral. like it was dingy. Cheap. (Maybe there would have been funding for the funeral by the parents of the kids who were saved.) but the biggest difference was the funeral had heart.

It was an actual honour of their lives vs a show case of a trophy.

#it’s not even a funeral really more of a party. you do the standard procedure- the parents talk about their perfect view #the kid they never even knew or talked to just ‘protected’ and excused #then everyone stands around with food and socializes — even then it’s not about him. not even about themselves like everything else in their #lives it’s making the ‘connections’ and putting on appearances #god I can’t even imagine being Randy or Cherry having to sit through that sort of thing #Dally and Johnny get a funeral. while there’s not a wake or a big party they get the proper conversations and love and celebrations #there’s such a big difference here in the way Greasers are allowed to properly actually mourn someone and express it #even if they also have a period before they have to ‘move on’ it’s not — faked / a false front to their real #OUGH

Rodeo injury fic will be coming by the end of the month… it’s getting some last reads and will get another round of edits before I finally publish.

Thanks for understanding me putting it on pause, felt horrible because I’ve been talking it up so much. It’s actually coming this time! I hope it hits :)
