It is the soul of authoritarianism never to concede. Donald Trump will never concede because he is an authoritarian. But he’s a weak one, and his lack of concession will not affect whether or not Joe Biden takes command of the office. The truth is, Joe Biden won the 2020 election… a sizable lead in the outdated Electoral College as well as an outstanding victory of the American popular vote. Showing anxiety, pushing for concession, generally stressing about the childish authoritarian stance of American Conservatism only gives power to their false vision. Now is the time to disempower lies by simply turning our backs on misinformation. Donald Trump will never concede because of his feelings. It’s easy to feel lost in a fog of unreality when you allow for nothing but feelings to guide you, and we should be happy to acknowledge that losing doesn’t feel good… but reality is what it is. Joe won… and concession or not changes nothing about that fact. A concession is simply a courtesy and I don’t know why we would expect courtesy from a discourteous man. Four years drenched in the politics of division has illuminated the fact that many Americans are still concerned with opening the American Dream to all, anxious about losing their piece of the Dream as others rise alongside us. Well, that’s okay. Donald Trump and American Conservatism writ large may continue to feel however they want to feel. But that’s not the way of progressivism. Concession or not, Joe will take control of the office and begin implementing a progressive agenda the fruits of which make no distinctions between us. We must not only contemplate how we get to the future, but what kind of people we are to be once we get there. There is no such thing as not voting.
We’re all in this society together and are all pummeled and buttressed by the votes of others. You gotta make your voice heard because you and your loved ones are constantly affected by the results of elections! Most Americans don’t vote and that’s a real bummer because democracy is weakened when we don’t participate and engage. If you don’t go to the polls you’re endorsing, agreeing, and rubber stamping whatever happens there. This video is to get us thinking about all this stuff and hopefully get a few more peeps to take part in this exciting moment.
