sharks were never on his mind as people to be feared or hated solely because of their curse. amaridin was a warrior. he'd killed before. more times than he could count. not to mention how many valid reasons there were for someone to kill another. in protection, for self-defence to name examples. as such a shark, being a selkie who had killed, was not an immediate cause of concern. never judge a person before knowing their story.

then again hatred and fear were solely irrational emotions.

amaridin had been passing by when he noticed the commotion. when the elf saw the scene unfold, his protective instinct came out to the forefront. it wasn't just in his nature as an alpha, but he'd grown up to be a guardian, taking care of his village and the people in it... as well as anyone else he needed to — though perhaps that being an alpha had something to do with shaping him and his values as well.

he had caught most of the exchange and had the gist of the situation. amaridin stepped in between the disputing parties, hand outstretched against the aggressors. "back off." danger in his tone. eyes threatening to turn red.

"are you alright?" the elf turned to the selkie-shark duo, not completely ignoring the other parent and child, still keeping his eye on them, but his focus had shifted to the more important pair.

Sebastian was furious and trying to remain calm, not easy in his particular case, but someone had interjected. At first, he thought he was interjecting in their favor but it quickly became clear the alpha was interjecting in his favor instead.

The other omega took a step back away from the alpha. "Just... keep them away from my kid," the omega said backing off and turning around and leading his kid away. Sebastian wasn't going to beg him to stay, but he felt bad for Tyler.

He kneeled in front of his kid and hugged him. "It's fine, hun, I'll play with you, okay?" Sebastian told his kid, who nodded. He got up again as Tyler hugged him from the waist. "Thank you, stranger. It's very rare when someone jumps to defend me or my kid," he says to the elf.

"I'm Sebastian and this is Tyler, my son." He says to the man. Sebastian, however, looked a little too young to have a son of Tyler's age. "Is there anything we can do to repay your kindness?" He offers.

he heard the rush of water, of something coming for him, but before he had the chance to think or react the elf found himself being thrown back onto the ground; landing hard. so much for being out here alone.

lifting his head out of the dirt, he felt the pointed tip of his own arrowhead press flush against his throat; scraping against his adam apple as it bobbed when swallowed his breath. "why," alton repeated the question back as he blinked quickly to help clear his blurred vision so he could get a proper look at the soaking wet man that he was currently pinned beneath-- and he was quiet the sight to see. lifting himself up on his elbows a bit, being careful not to press himself into the arrowhead too much, the elf looked between them and let his head cock to the side as he took in just how naked the man was; and then he smelled him. omega.

"why are you naked?" his voice was tense, his jaw clenched, as he finally let his eyes drag back up to meet the other's gaze. alton liked to think he had self control but there was no denying that the naked omega pressing down against him-- that the tension between them-- was awakening something in the alpha.

it was obvious there was some sort of miscommunication here but rather than apologizing, the elf continued to slowly lift up and push against the omega trying to hold him down. all of this could have been sorted with a simple i'm sorry, i didn't know you were there or my apologies, i was testing my bow and didn't see you. i hope i didn't hit you... but instead the elf chose to match the other's growl with one of his own. "get off of me." his voice deepened, his own frustration beginning to show through, as he narrowed his eyes at the omega. he was giving him a chance, a warning if you will. move or be moved.

Sebastian growled as his teeth shifted to those of sharks. It was a threat to the alpha to not fuck around with him. If he had brought his kid with him...he didn't want to think about it! Tyler was his everything and he wouldn't allow an idiot to hurt them. Thankfully, Tyler hadn't been with him tonight.

Why was he naked? He scoffed. "I was swimming, dumbass! But you would know because you shot at me!" He told him moving the arrow away from his neck now into clear view before throwing it away pushing his now free hand onto his shoulder keeping the alpha underneath him threatening to transform at any moment.

He was furious! But he didn't want to become the monster they all thought he was so he got up with a single movement and walked away. He took his towel from where he left it and began to dry off. "Just because I'm a shark doesn't give you the right to kill me!" Everyone made him out to be a monster, so it was a fair conclusion at this point.

He also didn't know what to do. The cops wouldn't take him seriously and hunters were a threat out there, but if being killed was a threat in here... then he was better off taking his chances off of New Haven completely. His kid's safety came first. Always.

Tyler was waddling around the shore when he saw another kid coming in with their parents. He got excited, looked at Sebastian who nodded at him, and ran to the kid as best as the 12-year-old could. He was always excited when other kids came to the lake so he could play with them. Most parents, despite their looks, didn't mind and let the kids play together as long as Sebastian stayed away so he tried to give Tyler space to create friends and stayed away just keeping an eye on things.

Not today though.

The parents of the new kid immediately intercepted Tyler. The omega, judging by his golden eyes, was blocking Tyler's way with his arms crossed over his chest. Sebastian became defensive and began making his way towards his kid. However, the omega began berating Tyler before Sebastian could get to him. "What do you think you are doing? Your kind has to stay away from the rest of us!"

"My kind?" Tyler was confused, at first, but then it clicked. "My papa is a kind person!" He immediately jumped to defend his dame while the one standing in front of him didn't seem to care.

"He's a shark! He has ki-" the omega began but Sebastian was there and roared.

"Who do you think you are to be talking to Tyler that way?! He just wanted to play. He's a selkie, like everyone else!" Tyler quickly hugged his dame trying not to sob.

"He's filth because he came from you! Keep him away from the rest of the kids before he decides to kill someone!" The omega said huffing and Sebastian wanted to teach him a lesson so badly! But no, he took a deep breath and tried to use his big man words instead. He couldn't let pass to the shark rage within him.

"My sins are my own, not my kid's," Sebastian said instead, caressing Tyler's hair. "And you can't seem to see the difference. Tyler is just a kid wanting to do kid things."

"Or so you say, shark. He's just shark bait." Sebastian growled and it took all of his energy and self-control to keep himself in place.

Arwyn was a little surprised that this man had a child for how good and young he looked. "Well im glad I could help. Hopefully i'm not too unbearable though." he teased and laughed. He watched the other eat for a little bit trying not to interrupt his taste with a whole lecture of words. " What's it like having a kid, ive always had my doubts with one but maybe that would change one day." He smirked. He sat up as the other asked him about his food habits. "I mean depends on how im feeling, if I had to guess probably less than 50% of the time, but I usually bring my food to work and if i dont eat it I offer it to the other firefighters since there's always someone hungry at the station."

He paused for a second, thinking of how to answer his question. "Well, ummm, I love Tyler and I would give him the world. It's just... let's just say is a blessing some people have a choice. That's all." He shrugged. He didn't like talking much about how Tyler was conceived, it was a hard topic for him, but he didn't like to lie either nor be rude.

"I see. Well, I appreciate it. Plus, you seem nice so far. It's always good to meet accepting people and all." He ate some more. "How is it like being a firefighter? Can't be too hectic around here." He asked, wanting to keep the conversation going. He didn't interact with people often so this was always nice.

he hadn't been in new haven long enough to understand what everyone was so afraid of, what hid in the shadows that made them all so tense and cautious, but he knew enough to know he needed to be prepared for something. his late night wandering a week, or so, ago had led him to meeting river-- and to buying a modern bow for himself that he could keep in his home as a last stitch defense-- but it felt foreign in his hands; it felt weighted down; it felt human. he knew what he needed to do.

donning some of the clothes he hadn't worn since making a home for himself here in this realm, clothes that his old friend teasingly called his authentic ren-faire outfit, the elf alpha abandoned the comfort of his home and made a crude campsite for himself out in new haven's woods. he was careful to keep himself away from others so that his ritual wouldn't be interrupted; and so that he wouldn't have to explain himself. it took him three days to carve out his bow, and his arrows, from the surrounding trees-- and while they weren't as powerful as what he could have found in the wild lands, new haven had a magic all it's own, woven into the fiber of every living thing that, that he was able to imbue into his weapon.

on the third night, after the bow was finally finished, he put out the fire at his campsite and made his way to the salt water lake. scanning his surroundings briefly, he decided he was alone so he pulled an arrow from his quiver and set it into place. pulling back, the bowstring seemed to glint with flecks of light, as if they were stars, in the glow of the moonlight. taking a deep breath, the elf centered himself before finally letting go. the arrow whipped out of his clutch, arching over the shore and over the water with incredible speed before finally piercing the water's surface towards the deep center. for a moment he thought he saw something out there beneath the surface, right where his arrow slipped under. "the only thing you need to worry about is getting that arrow back," he mumbled to himself as he tried to calm his own concern that he might have hurt something; or almost hurt something. "at least we're alone out here..."

It was odd to have a quiet night like this one. Tyler was demanding or fussing about something all the time, but tonight he was with his friends at a sleepover so his place was quiet tonight. Odd. After an hour of the stillness of the night, he got up and left for the lake. He undressed, put his clothes neatly on the side together with his towel, and jumped into the water.

At first, he just swam. No transformation. After a while of swimming, he transformed all the way through and dived, swimming around underneath the surface. People didn't like when he did that, him being a shark and all, but he was alone tonight, right? He could get away with it. Besides, he would feel it if someone entered the water and he would simply resurface and no big deal. Except...

Something shot into the water almost hitting him. He jumped and looked around finding a handmade arrow. He grabbed it and growled. Had someone tried to kill him? He knew things were tense in town but, this?! They wouldn't get away with it. He saw someone approaching, probably to confirm if he was dead, so he jumped out of the water and pinned the man down on the floor. The arrowhead against his throat. Sebastian was half transformed but still very much naked. "Why?!" He demanded, his voice deep and guttural from the transformation.

It had truly been an interesting two years since had time traveled here and throughout that Arwyn dealt with not being seen as an equal himself. Now through his experience he did his best to include anyone - no matter what species was in New Haven. Sure there was a little bit of a demeanor over this guy he had just called over. But would he really have an altercation in the mall of all things? Probably not. He smiled at the broader male and nodded. "Its my pleasure, Im sure you dont want to wait in line. Take them all seriously." He sat up as the other sits down with him. "Im Arwyn by the way. Its nice to meet you." He grinned trying not to talk the other's ear off but still trying to have a general conversation so they werent in complete silence.

He smiles at his words. "Yeah. It's a little tough to be in public sometimes. It's more bearable if my kid is with me." He confesses as he ates. He doesn't owe people an explanation on why he's a shark and not a selkie anymore, and of course, there are always the comments of people saying Sebastian shouldn't be taking care of a kid, but those people were usually talking out of their ass, and were very few.

"But. I have to eat, so I gotta put up with people from time to time." He shrugs. He's used to this. "I'm Sebastian, by the way, nice to meet you, Arwyn." He says with a warm smile. "Do you order too much food often?" He asked with curiosity and because not many people talked to him that frequently outside the job. A little socialization from time to time was nice.

Arwyn was out and about in the mall's food court eating some food before he perused around. There werent many people nearby but he was worried that his dragon eyes were too big for his dragon stomach. He had already had 2 cheeseburgers and was still struggling to scarf down twenty chicken nuggets. Thats when he saw a man standing there with a pretty decent smile trying to decide what to do. "Hey there dude, yeah you." he chuckled. "I have some extra chicken nuggets if you could finish them for me, id really appreciate it. I'd owe you one.. I just dont want them to go to waste."

He's here for lunch. Sebastian likes to take his hour lunch break in the mall, just looking around after eating and sometimes buying a thing or two for his kid. Strangers never talk to him, and the staff usually try to take his order quickly and get away from him. Being a shark comes with a stigma. Being a shark means you killed someone, and people usually just think of you as a bloodthirsty killer. Sebastian was not. He had every right to kill that bastard.

He is in line when he hears someone calling. He turned around and, to his surprise, it was him who was being called. He pointed at himself and everything! He walks to the stranger and eyes his food after he speaks, then looks back at him. "No one's ever offered me free food before," yet dragons rarely judge him. He wonders why. He doesn't see anything malicious happening here in New Haven, unlike out there or in the past where he came from, so he sits down with him. "Thank you. I appreciate it." He says, taking the nuggets to his side and start dipping them in BBQ sauce, and eating them. He tries to keep to himself and not bother anyone.

"I never want to make anyone uncomfortable, I have noticed from experience that when one swims this early or at a certain time it's because they tend to avoid people," he spoke speaking from his own experience. Levi honestly did keep people at a distance, he liked being alone and he had gotten used to it even though it hurt sometimes but he knew he could not handle getting close to another person and get hurt again. He did not want to take that risk. "You can keep swimming if you want and I can come back or if...you feel comfortable we can share the lake," he added with a smile on his face.

Levi did not know if the other felt comfortable around him, his job as detective and especially after the war. Levi knew that certain people would not like to be around certain others. He had come across omegas who hated being around alphas, even certain species hated being around certain species too due to hurt or something. As a detective, he always wanted others to be safe.

Sebastian stopped and looked at the stranger. "I am a shark if you haven't noticed. People don't like me, so it is easier to come when no one's around.” However, he did consider staying. This man didn’t seem to mind what Sebastian was and he really needed a swim and to stretch his muscles around before Tyler was out of school plus, today was his free day too.

“Would you mind if I swim as a shark? I won’t bite you or anything,” he promised, seriously considering staying for a swim. This man didn’t seem to have minded he was a shark, very few did, and he rather stay if this mind didn’t mind.

Ezra had decided to leave the ranch early, figuring what he didn't finish that day, he could certainly finish tomorrow. The selkie had planned out a nice swim at the lake for himself, needing a nice cold soak after a long day working in the sun. He decided against swimming in his seal skin, finding it best kept hidden away from prying eyes. No one knows who might be looking.

The ranch hand had set aside his clothes on the bank of the lake, feeling the cool breeze across his naked back before diving into the lake's cold water. The lake was a bit warmer than Ezra was used to. Being raised in Artic waters, most bodies of water the selkie basked in always felt a little warm. At least, Ezra hopes the temperature difference was due to it being ice berg free.

Ezra dives to the bottom of the lake before kicking himself back up to the surface when he's met with Sebastian's shark form. The selkie easily regains composure and meets the shark in surfacing. "Don't fret, I reckon I should have looked where I was swimming too.'"

"Say, have I seen you around here before?"

It was strange. This man's behavior was strange. He was a shark, which meant he had killed a person and, yet, this man didn't seem to care while most people steered clear of him the moment they saw him. It was nice, don't get him wrong, but it was strange nonetheless.

Sebastian smiled and cleared his wet hair out of his face. "You might have, yes. I swim here a lot during school hours when Tyler is not here. If I'm here with my kid, I don't usually swim. I don't do this often, though, because of my job and all." He explained, still finding it his behavior bizarre.

He's being a little shy. He's caught off guard, too. People usually insult him and move away from him. Even kids tended to stay clear from Tyler, which made his son a little sad. He would feel guilty often about it, too. "Are you sure you are alright? No wounds or anything?" He can't smell blood, so he guesses he's fine.

It had been a busy last few days. Levi was not one to stay away from the water especially from so long. That's where he felt the most safe and the most like himself and it often helped him forget the memories of the day, helped him relax and just breath. The weather was beautiful, birds were singing as he went to the lake, New Haven was totally different from the last place he lived, it was peaceful and he wished that he had a chance to live here with the one he had lost. The merman sighed running his hands through his hair and he slowly closed his eyes just for a moment and taking in the breeze and the scent of the water, hearing the water.

He slowly took off his shirt and pants, placing them neatly on a branch, he did not notice the other yet nor notice someone was in the water until he got close to the edge. "Am sorry, I did not realize someone was here," he spoke standing keeping his distance and not wanting the other to feel uncomfortable.

He was relaxing in a corner, not even swimming in his shark form like usual, when someone else joined. His eyes went wide as he noticed the new arrival was undressing. Sebastian nearly let out a panicked noise, but he didn't. It seemed the stranger at least was wearing underwear so there was that. He still looked away and tried to keep calm but soon the man noticed him and kept his distance. Again, he didn't know if it was because he was a shark or because he was trying not to make him uncomfortable. His instinct at this point always assumed it was because Sebastian was a shark.

"It's quite alright," he said, wondering if he should leave. "I'm not used to there being people at this hour, that's all. I have to go home soon anyway," he excused himself and began swimming towards his things, where a towel and a shirt awaited him.
