Her head angled to watch him, ever curious sparks lingering in her eyes over the mysterious man beside her. A few details different, and she was certain she never would have spoken to him again. Fate was funny, though, intertwining people without regard to what should or should not be. “There’s quite a bit you don’t know about me,” she admitted, feet swinging again as she spoke. There was so much he would never know, she figured, but her gratitude wasn’t one of them. “Like how my parents drummed manners into me for eighteen years before I broke away to menace the world with my scowls.” So she fudged the truth a little; would he ever know the difference. “They didn’t,” she said. “Tell me you stayed, that is. You honestly didn’t have to.” She was used to being alone. At his offer, she looked away, focusing on the traffic of the street as she mulled it over. “Touché,” she said, finally, sliding off the car to stand beside him. “We’ll have to take your car or walk, seeing as I didn’t bring mine.”
As little as Damian knew about Asa, she was mysterious and sexy and willing to thank him with a gift card for taking care of her so of course he wanted to know more about her. Glancing at her swaying feet, he chuckled to her words and ran his tongue along his lower lip. “Even with you breaking away, it looks like the manners in you stayed around,” he responded, not knowing at any point whether she was lying or not. He could see the walls she had built up in front of her and it was obvious that she had a dark past from the way she hallucinated at the gala from the poisoning. “I know I didn’t have to, but I wanted to just to make sure you were safe and doin’ alright,” he said with more of a smile and when she slid off of the car to stand beside him, his smile grew more. “Let’s walk. I’ll pick up my car later.” Motioning his head towards a bar down the street, he began walking with his hands in his pockets. “I’m glad to see that you’re doin’ alright, Asa,” he said after a few quiet moments passed, glancing down at her. “So, what else do you like to do instead of creeping around in the middle of the night at the pier and giving people gift cards for thanks?” He asked teasingly, nudging her shoulder with his arm as they walked together.
