I needed to take hospitalglam pictures that felt very vulnerable to me on this day. My friend @invisiblyafflicted had just received news that her abusive doctors would no longer allow or help her to manage/treat her severe, completely debilitating pain. We (her more than me of course) are devastated. It is still so painful to acknowledge that very soon this person whom I love will be suffering even more at the hands of someone who will see no repercussions for their tortorous actions.
It has to be known by everyone how easily, and how often the medical industry abuses disabled chronic pain patients in countless ways.
Too many doctors do not care about our quality of life. Too many of them use ableist ideologies as reasoning in their medical practice. Too many of them believe our pain is a result of our choices and mindsets. Even one doctor would be too many, but we’ve all experienced it.
Fighting the battle to be adequately treated is so immensely hard. We are already fighting our own bodies, we don’t have the ability to change an entire society’s views. What we do have is support for each other, and the effort to raise awareness.
We all deserve care. We all deserve the best quality life possible. We all deserve not to die at the hands of the system that hates spending money on us. This should not be radical idea, and yet it is so far away from being achieved. It is constantly and actively fought against.
If you are chronically ill, share & reblog.
If you are able-bodied, share & reblog.
If you’ve ever experienced or wanted to change any type of injustice, share & reblog. The disabled community is in danger, we need you to be aware, we need educated allies. This is just one of the battles we’re fighting right now.
