a concept: hogan’s heroes/M*A*S*H crossover - a mashup, if you will 👀

for real though, I love this concept, and as far as I can figure there’s three main way it could be tackled...

1) It takes place during the HH’s timeline, when the MASH characters are younger. This would mean only certain characters would really be involved though unless ages are being fudged or they’re getting drawn into the story as civilians. (There is actually a fun fic I’ve been reading that plays with this concept, about Potter who ends up at Stalag 13 during his time in WWII).

2) It takes place during the MASH timeline, after the end of WWII and the liberation of Stalag 13, when the HH characters are older. It would presumably have to be about characters who have either stayed with the army/secret service after WWII or who have gotten wrapped up in things another way. (Honestly, I don’t jive so much with one... post-series fics tend to make me sad ^^;;;)

or 3) Fanfiction Time-Travelling World-Hopping Bullshit in which the two timelines are slammed together. Don’t care how, don’t care why, because I’m a schmuck and this is by far my preferred option because I like cheesy nonsense. Plucking up the MASH characters and throwing them back in time? Finally getting some doctors at Stalag 13? Getting to see them be righteously indignant by the state of things? Or getting them to bumble through pretending they AREN’T from the future and DON’T know how the war ends just in case they mess up the timeline or something. Because the MASH crew trying really badly to pretend they definitely for sure fit in while being surrounded by a saboteur ring who is becoming increasingly convinced these guys are either the WORST spies or just completely off their rocker is hilarious. Though they’d probably eventually have to be let in on the secret purely because the amount of chaos those guys would cause for the Germans, on top of what Hogan and co are already causing, would be completely untenable unless actually reined in and given useful direction.

Or conversely, the pure, unrelenting chaos that the HH cast would unleash on the MASH unit would be hilarious, especially if they’re also desperately trying to figure out how to get back in time to ensure they do their job properly and the war ends in the right way. Then you get the joy of these guys trying to fit in while exclusively possessing knowledge/slang/uniforms from a decade ago.

Oooh, and then which characters would get along and which would be Disastrous? Like Hogan and Hawkeye would either be an amazing team or they would be at each other’s throats in seconds. Klinger gets his hands on Newkirk’s well-equipped sewing room. Radar and Kinch get to bond. Margaret immediately ends anyone foolish enough to question the existence of female majors (and like... she outranks everyone in the Stalag except Hogan and I kinda dig that...)

I’ll stop before my stream of consciousness rambling gets completely out of control but TLDR yes, yes please, i want to hear everyone’s opinions on this concept

@hogans-heroes I just started watching MASH (I have no idea why it took me so long - it’s gold and has HH energy) so I guess I’m a field surgeon in the Korean War. If I had to choose a medical profession, I’d choose to be a surgeon. Plus, maybe I could visit my grandpa - he was in the Korean War 🤔
