Social Media Changing Views
Social media can have a great impact on peoples’ outlooks and opinions on many different topics. After reading the article “Social Media Causes Some Users to Rethink Their Views on an Issue,” by Monica Anderson, it is easy to understand why this is true. I know from looking at my own social media that political influence is all over. Seeing so many opinions and so many different sides and explanations from other people’s political standpoints, it is hard to not feel a little influence. In the recent 2016 election, social media had a huge impact of how people saw each candidate. Anderson states “20% of social media users say they’ve modified their stance on a social or political issue because of material they saw on social media, and 17% say social media has helped to change their views about a specific political candidate” (2016). Twenty and seventeen percent might seem like a small number, but with how many people were involved and interacting with the 2016 election, that is a huge number.
