"Certainly feels that way sometimes," she agreed with a shake of her head. Tanner had been raised by a mother that had taught her to take care of herself, to never let other people in because they would always end up hurting you. It had taken a lot to get herself to let that wall down for Erik and now she was served with another reminder that perhaps her mother was right. People were never worth giving a chance to. Dana nodded her head along to Tanner's words. "That has always been a good perk." She had never found the time to settle down, always on the go. But, it worked for her. Dana was happy for Nel and the family she had formed with Wyatt but Dana, at least right now, did not see that for herself. That thought was even further affirmed when they lost Annika. While the relationship between them may have been platonic, she still lost someone she loved and it ripped her fucking heart out. Dana still found it too hard to go over to Ingrid's place, knowing that it was formerly Annika's. She couldn't even begin to fathom how she was living there and in the same instance, she knew that it was to feel closer to her. Dana had been out of town, but was trying to spend more time with Ingrid. Even if every time she saw her with her hair, reminding her of Annika, broke her heart. It was growing on her and she'd never say anything to Ingrid about it. "A glass for you." She handed off the cocktail she made at the small bar she had in her place on Julian's property. "I figured we could stay in tonight." She offered to Ingrid, "That way we don't have to worry about finding a way back here."

“Better do something to work against that jinx then.” Julian hummed, pinching the bridge of his nose as he took a breath, then straightened up. “Okay, so that’s that handled. What about Next Gen? Any more applicants?” He inquired, looking over at her while he started up his laptop again. “Competent ones, this time, I hope.” For the interview he had last week had been an hour of his time he would never get back. At least it had pushed him to making the requirements more demanding. “And have we heard back from Richard regarding the finances of the Vitale restaurant? I have my next appointment set there for next Monday, which reminds me, I will need to fly back after the race on Sunday so we need to inform the pilot about that.” @danaxallenlopez

"You have three more applicants. I've already screened them and called references, two of them will be coming in for interviews." Dana was straight to business, tapping her pen against her planner as she spoke to Julian about what was written on it. "Yes," she nodded her head, not breaking eye contact from her planner. "He confirmed the finances for the Vitale restaurant. And the pilot is already informed." Her gaze lifted, a smile pulling the corners of her mouth upward. "He's prepared to get you back here in time for that meeting." Well, Dana was prepared to do so. "I think that above covers it. For now." A small laugh was drawn from her lips as their days often felt never ending. @julianxhawthorne

"A shot would be a great place to start." Dana nodded her head with Ingrid's suggestion. She thought that quite a few shots would be the right direction for them, at least tonight. Tomorrow, she might look back at the decision and think differently. "Let's get a few, we might as well keep them coming." She told Ingrid, taking a seat on the stool next to the woman and flagging down the bartender with a polite smile. "Any particular liquor?" She couldn't imagine they were making their shots anything but at this point. @ingridnystrom

She smile a little at Dana and felt relieved she wanted to do this as much as she did. She didn't care if she regretted this tomorrow. Today was her birthday and if she needed shots to cope with that, she would down as many as possible. "You're literally an angel." She said and thought for a moment. "Whiskey. While she was glad that Dana had enough people around her to have been there for her, Kat would always want to be the first person there any time something happened with either of her sisters. "Mmm, I'm sure they were fine in the interim, but I'm just way better," she teased gently, nudging her shoulder before letting her weight just stay leaning against her sister. "Okay, that was a lie, it wasn't boring. We got commissioned to excavate some cave systems that they think may have been used to transport goods throughout the area. One of them caved in while a few of us were in there, it became a whole fucking thing to get it cleared so we could leave. Whole cave was infested, I got bit, spent the next two weeks in recovery. Long trek back to base camp after that. Just. A mess."

"Yeah, see," she shook her head at her sister. She the work that Katerina did was far from boring and she wanted to hear about it. Sure, it had kept her away but she couldn't be reached. How else was she to know? Dana hadn't blamed her for it, not in the slightest. She knew life was too fucking short already. As her sister mentioned the cave caving in on them, her heart skipped a beat and because if she had known about that, she would have assumed the worst. "Well, I'm glad you all made it out." As having been involved in the tragedy with Annika, she would not have been okay if she also lost her sister. "What did you get bit by?" She wrinkled her nose, almost afraid to ask. @katerinalopez

The rather general response from Dana was as good as Tanner would expect given the other woman's relationship with Erik and she was happy to leave the shit talking at that. "That they are. A reminder I need every few years so I don't forget it," she joked, halfheartedly. Whatever it had been between her and Erik, Tanner was hurt by it, something she hadn't expected going into their relationship at all. Tossing back the next few sips of her drink, she held her free hand up in front of her, tilting it side to side in response to Dana's assessment of Julian. "I guess I can't talk too much shit about Julian, though. He's at least silver star material." Much like Dana, she thought Julian was an alright guy at the end of the day. "And hey, at least we have alcohol to keep us company when our romantic lives go to shit. I take it you're not really seeing anyone?"

"Julian's one of the good ones. Might be the last good one out there." And she was grateful that a woman as good as Haven had snagged him. As one of Julian's many friends, she only wanted the best for him. "No," she shook her head at Tanner's question, "I really don't have the time to commit to anything like that." And right now, she also didn't have the emotional bandwidth either since Annika's passing. "I much prefer any sort of fun to live out of state and disappear before the morning light breaks through, you know?" @tannerkohli

He chuckled, "You and Chantel can have that digging holes," he joked, shaking his head for a moment. But he made sure she did what she could today and helped him out as much as he could. But as they headed back to the barn, he smiled a moment. "We got some new members of the family in the other day," he said, walking towards the barn hr put the post hole digger to the side and went into one of the barns. it was rather loud with animal sounds but mostly goats. "We got a call that someone needed a new place to live," he opened one of the stall doors, and it was a mother goat and two kids. "She came and had the babies like a week ago" he smiled. @danaxallenlopez

Dana followed Charlie, taking in the sights and sounds that surrounded her. It was peaceful being out where the farm was. She got that same peace living on Julian's property. The seclusion of it all was something that drew her in after being on the go all the time. Yet, as soon as Charlie opened up the barn door, she was met with the sound of goats. It brought a smile to her face, her eyes scanning around the inside of the barn until they landed on the mother goat and two kids. "Awh," she knew her smile grew. "That's nice that you're able to take them in and help. I imagine that's a full time job in itself is fielding calls for intakes." @charliesxdavis

A relieved sigh came from her and she nodded. "We definitely can." She agreed with Dana. She took another moment to just calm herself and wiped her tears a little before she forced a smile at her friend. "I don't think anyone can out weird me at this point." Charlie bought the farm years ago as a dream and worked his way to fix it up. He started off taking in a few donkeys and goats, which turned into something great. The farm was large and took in animals all the time. He loved it, he loved all the animals that he got in and cared for them with love and care. But the farm got so big he was unable to do it on his own even with Chantel it wasn't enough. They had a few staff members, but loved it when people came to give their time or give donations. Today he had Dana with him working on what was needed to be done. Fence work was hard, not that fun, but it was needed. There were times he had changed the sizes of the pens, to expand or make them smaller, or just replace them due to wear and tear over time. But thankfully, the fence they fixed was done. "You should be a pro post digger" he teased with a smile. "But I got something else on my list," he moved to carry the post-dinner back to the barn. "But it's not as hard as we did, but it is fun," he winked . @danaxallenlopez

"Maybe I will consider that for when Julian retires." Dana shot back with a breathless laugh. The work was hard but the harder the work, the more physical it had been as of late, the more she was able to quiet her mind. Typically, Dana had been able to quiet it with just mental work but it was proving to fall short since Annika's death. "Alright," she nodded her head at Charlie, up for whatever he had on the list. "What else is on the agenda for today?" Her brow rose with the question. @charliesxdavis

Crossing the room, Kat gave her sister a giant hug, clinging tightly for a beat before she plopped down to a crouch to get a look at the leg. "Right, okay, good. Good. I'm sorry it took me so long to get back," she said, patting Dana's knee after giving any lasting damage a quick once over. The concern flickered in her eyes, an underlying regret in her eyes that she hadn't been there. Even if there was nothing she could have done, the twinge of guilt still flared up. "Won't bore you with the details, but a cave-in and a bad run-in with a snake kind of held me up for a bit. I am back and ready to stay put for the time being, though, so whatever you need. I'll be here."

Wrapped in her sister's arm was a comforting moment for Dana. She didn't often lean on them, not since she was older. Dana prided herself on her independence but she couldn't lie that it felt good to have her older sister back in Kismet Harbor. With Kat sitting next to her, she shook her head at her. "It's fine," she responded, "Nel was here. Julian. I'm just glad you're back now." Dana did not resent Kat, knowing there wasn't much more she could do about it. Julian entered his office in a rush, the door slamming behind him louder than he usually would. Safe to say, the staff meeting hadn't been a positive one. It had already been clear to Julian that there were members of the company that wanted to change the way of things now that his father was gone, but even while he was being as steady as he could be and deflecting the attempts at every possible opportunity, it was wearing him out. "Fucking assholes." he muttered under his breath, taking off his jacket which he tossed on the broad windowsill. "They worked with my father for over two decades and now they're dancing on his grave." If only he had the power to fire them. With a sigh of defeat, he sat himself down, letting out a deep breath and seeming to silently count to ten before he turned his focus to Dana. She'd been going at it like a rocket these past few months, and obviously he knew why. He'd been wanting to have a serious talk with her for a while now, but never felt like it was the right time. Dana was seated at the small table in Julian's office, only looking up when the door slammed upon his return. She had been working with him long enough to know that was never a good noise. Dana laid down her pen, watching as Julian muttered under his breath and tossed his jacket. Dana thinned her lips at Julian's words. "Fucking assholes is right." She agreed with him, though she never did just to appease him. Dana shook her head at his question. "Nothing new." She told him, "For once, the schedule remains intact but now that I've said that aloud, I'm sure I've jinxed it." Dana's words held a playfulness to them, subtle but she knew Julian would be able to pick up on it. @julianxhawthorne

Sometimes when life hit hard and it felt like there was no light at the end of the tunnel, the only thing left to do was laugh. Tanner could see it in Dana's eyes, a sympathetic glimmer in her own expression as she set to pouring the drinks for them. While comfort in general was not a skill Tanner had, she could at least provide a strong drink and a place to get away from everything else. "Mostly vodka is a language I am happy to speak any day," Tanner mused back, taking a long sip of her own drink once they were both mixed and served. Her eyes flashed up with surprise at Dana's question, caught off guard by it even if she could have likely seen it coming. There was a longer pause, another longer sip of the vodka, before she spoke again. "Not planning to. My hope is that he's miserable and that his life has done nothing but get harder since last I saw him."

Dana's conflict was internal and she hoped she hid it by taking a long sip of her drink. She grew up with Annika, Ingrid and by default, that meant Erik, too. Yet, she had also found a spot for Tanner in her heart, the two having grown rather close. She didn't think that Tanner meant what she said, that it was the grief but she knew that Erik wasn't exactly doing great by all accounts for more than one reason. "Men are trash, honestly." The statement, while general, could apply to anyone. "I think the only one that's ever held a gold star in my book is Julian." And never in a romantic sense. She knew Dana was right. All of this would probably never make sense. How could it? Her sister was dead and the rest of them were there trying to survive without her. And really, Ingrid wasn't sure if she was ever going to survive without her. Just exist as a shell of a person. Taking a breath, she wiped her cheeks and nodded. "I was going to get a drink. And then..." And then everything just came out of her. "But we can do anything." @danaxallenlopez

"We can still get a drink." She told Ingrid, almost needing to drown this particular moment out herself. Her day was light tomorrow and even if it wasn't, she had worked through a hangover before. "Come on, let's get a drink. We can use it." Dana offered to her, "I don't think we are going to do any good standing here in this ally anymore. Plus, who knows what kind of other weirdos might come passing through." Dana tried to tease, gently nudging Ingrid with her arm. "First round is on me." @ingridnystrom

As much as Kat tried to keep any trips short when she left town, there were times where it was a logistical impossibility. The last few months of her life had been spent deep in the in the mountains of Nepal on a job that had kept her mostly off grid. She'd heard snippets of what was going on back home and as soon as she'd gotten back to regular service and gotten the full breakdown of what had happened with Dana, she'd been on the first flight home. Showing up straight to Dana's doorstep, she'd knocked once before digging in her purse to try and find a spare key, ultimately deciding that the easier and quicker option was to pick the lock. It was, in fact, quicker than finding the spare key that she'd probably left at her own house anyway, and within moments Kat was barging into Dana's place with purpose. "A broken fucking leg?" she yelled out once she was inside, closing the door behind her as she tossed her bag off to the side.

Dana sat at her desk with everything in it's place. Her brows were narrowed and a crease formed between them as she placed her template over the planner to get it set up for the following week. A knock at the door caught her attention but before she could even push herself up from the chair to answer it, her older sister was barging through the door. "Okay, hi to you, too." Dana carefully placed her pen down, pushing herself back from the desk. "I'll have you know the cast is off and I'm in physical therapy. But welcome back to town, Kat." @katerinalopez

She held onto Dana tightly as she sobbed into her. For the first time since her sister passed, she was letting this all out in front of someone. She had been used to crying on her own and remaining calm and stoic around everyone else. Right now, though, she didn't have the strength to try to put that mask on. It was just so unfair. Out of anyone to die, it had been Annika and now they were all there broken and trying to just survive. After a few minutes, she backed up a little and wiped her cheeks. Standing with her arms wrapped around Ingrid for a few minutes, Dana felt herself being drained. It wasn't anything that Ingrid had done, but rather it was everything. It felt like for the first time she was standing still long enough for her to have to feel for longer than a passing beat. "I don't know that it will ever make sense." Dana said gently to Ingrid in return. She wished she could have said something differently, but it was the truth. There was simply nothing about the situation at hand that would make sense.
