After how Erik reacted to her hair, Ingrid knew it was the worst decision she could've made and this birthday was officially the worst one of her life. She was upset and now she felt like she needed a drink. Sadly, though, there was no parking spot nearby Wingman's Pub so she had to park down the street and she felt like she was storming down there while trying to keep tears inside. Every time she passed a window, she caught her reflection and it felt like she was just seeing Annika. That wasn't helping the tears and some started spilling out. She dipped into an alley and started hitting the wall with her bag. After a moment, she took a breath and turned to see Dana there. "Oh, Dana." She wiped her cheeks and took a breath. "How much did you see?"

Dana was on her way to grab dinner and a drink when a sound caught her attention in the alley way. She couldn't quite tell what it was, but the sight of blonde hair stopped her in her tracks. Annika. No. Dana shook her head to herself, knowing that her best friend was dead. It only left one other person. Ingrid. Dana stared, only blinking once she was spotted by Ingrid herself. "Oh, well," her gaze flickered to Ingrid's bag in her hand. "Just you beating that wall up with your bag." She tried to joke, a faint smile pulling at the corner of her lips. Since the cast had been removed, Dana felt that much lighter. Though, the feeling were only physical. Everything else about her was still heavy. It was like her heart was being weighed down by a bag of bricks while simultaneously being crushed by those same bricks. Dana arrived at Tanner's place, alcohol and food in hand as she knocked with a light tap of her foot against the door. "Hands are full but I'm here." She called out. The hiking incident had a domino effect in Kismet Harbor, leaving everyone reeling and people doing things they normally wouldn't. "I promise I brought the hard stuff."

Dana, even on her off days, had to stay busy. In another world, she would have relaxed some. Yet, since Annika's death, Dana had only been looking for more reasons to stay busy. While she was, with Julian's race season, when they were home and she had free time, she made sure it was filled. She hated being told to rest and that's all she had been doing while she was wearing a cast for her broken leg. Now, it was gone and she was free to do what she wanted. The last few months had been nothing but orders from doctors, physical therapy appointments and loved ones hovering. So, when she saw the farm was looking for an extra set of hands, she signed up. The work wasn't glamorous as fence posts needed replacing, feed needed hauling and organizing tools, but it was exactly the kind of work that she liked. "What's next?" Dana said, looking up as she leaned her weight against a post digger.

"Which makes me very happy." There weren't any grandparents in play, not for Teo at least, so the fact that he had them through Wyatt was a relief. Every child should have a grandparent. That with the aunts and uncle and even close friends that served as bonus family, there was no shortage of love and comfort. "They're good, or so I assume. We haven't really had a sit down to talk as of light, we're both so busy that when it comes to picking up or dropping off Teo, it goes by too fast you don't get passed the small talk." She continued, voice trailing off with her words. Losing her best friend still didn't feel real and also felt like the most real thing in her entire life. Erik averted his gaze when she spoke, the thought behind her words clear but he didn't need to think of that night, not more than he already did when he was alone and he could hear her screams in the silence, mixed with the distant ringing in his ears. He rested his elbow on the arm support of his wheelchair, rubbing his fingertips against his lips. Her words brought comfort to know that she hadn't been carrying a grudge, wasn't thinking of him in a bad light because of it. Or at least, he hoped that she didn't. Plenty of other developments had taken place in the meantime. "I'm proud of you." He said, certain that she'd find the comment strange as he had never said them to her before. "To see you still up and going and functioning as always despite--" He stopped talking, lowering his hand again. "What's your secret? Because I had to be dragged out of bed today." He forced the amusement, a dry chuckle escaping his lips as he practiced some self mockery as he had been 'handled' more than once during his stay at the hospital. @danaxallenlopez

Her expression shifted, slightly with his words. Proud of you. It wasn't something she expected to hear, not right now. She let out a quiet breath and shook her head. "You're making it sound like I've been handling this well." She said after moment. Her own laugh was dry before she shook her head. "I haven't." The truth was, Dana woke up in the middle of the night, hearing Annika's panic. Every version of the fall replayed in her mind, depending on how guilty her brain felt that day.

She had always been the organized one. The prepared one. The person that made spreadsheets for trips. And still, Annika had died. Her throat tightened. "Yeah, but you still got out of bed." Her eyes landed on him, "Some days that's the whole victory." @erikxnystrom

Though, she wasn't sure if her helping was what they wanted. She wasn't good at the whole bedside manner thing. She wasn't good at being there for people. She knew that. I think it will really pull the place together." The humor was just as quick to fade as she watched the anxiety creep into Tanner's face, gaze dropping to the tequila being poured into the shot glass. "Yeah, he's going to look different." An understatement, Dana knew that. "He's still him, though, underneath it all. Maybe he won't be right away, there's a lot of shit we've all got to work through." She would praise her son whenever she could and expected great things for him. Even if he would end up with a 'normal' life she'd still be just as proud. She just wanted to set her children up for life, which was hard given the fact she herself was unemployed at the moment, but she was working on it. She had to face her trauma first. "And Mateo. There was a softness that settled in her, trying to soothe the increasing need to do more. It was momentary but she recognized it as something that she needed right there. "I know that would be appreciated." Not just by Dana, even if she didn't feel entirely comfortable speaking on the behalf of others. Erik found himself nodding at her words, mindlessly rather than a determined nod. Nothing really made a lot of sense and had it not been for the set date for the funeral, he might've been at a loss for how many days had passed since that night. All he knew was that he was able to leave the hospital only to go to his sister's funeral. Tonight he'd be back there for a few days longer. Squeezing his eyes shut for a moment. He'd realised he had found himself staring at her injured leg, instead turning his gaze towards the front of the room, where bouquets of flowers were filling the stage. "I'm sorry." He told her. "For not checking in on you that night." He'd hardly cared about his own injury aside from the pain and throbbing. Erik's apology had a crease furrowing between her brows. Slowly, she shook her head, unable to answer right away. The apology had been unexpected, one she hadn't thought she deserved. "You don't have to apologize to me." Dana spoke softly, gaze lingering on Erik as she spoke. "What you were going through that night, what we both were," she shook her head once more, "the last thing you needed was to worry about me, too." If she were in Erik's shoes, she knew that she'd have a hard time thinking about else. Because even in her current shoes, she was having a hard time doing that. "Really, it's okay." @erikxnystrom

She nodded a little. "I can imagine." Being confined to a place was never something Ingrid liked so she couldn't imagine how it felt being like that in a hospital. "How long are you here for?" She asked curiously. She knew Erik could be a while, but she wondered if Dana would be the same. Getting up, she helped grab Dana's cup and hand it to her. "Um, yeah. I'm not sure for how long, but I want to help out." The whole family was a mess and it didn't set well with her to just leave; no matter how much she wanted to. @danaxallenlopez

Her voice was quiet as she took the cup from Ingrid and brought it to her lips. As she sipped, she listened to Ingrid, fighting back the urge to act surprised by the other's statement. It might've been as bad now with Sera." Penelope had always seen herself as a free spirit before. No broken back could have held her down. But now that she was a mother she felt like she had evolved, that she had turned into the woman she was supposed to be. If Wyatt would let her, she'd have all the babies, though perhaps with a little break to give herself a bit of respite. "He definitely is. Blue is his favourite colour at the moment, in case you wanted to redecorate your place and needed to decide on a colour. Maybe he'll sign your cast. "Good." She gave her sister more of an assured smile, because she did believe her. "I do remember, yeah." Not that there was judgement in her tone. Seeing her sister shift into the role of being a mother had been something Dana enjoyed seeing. It warmed her, softening her around the edges when she watched Nel with her children. "He can definitely sign my cast." Though she had as feeling that Teo would be the only one and she was fine with that. The last thing Dana wanted was more people fretting over her, giving her that sympathetic look. "He's going to be big for this town in no time," she joked softly. ☀️ what my mornings look like:

my day starts well before his does. it always does and always will. i've already reviewed the schedule twice before he gets up, adjusting for time zones when necessary. travel has been confirmed, weather conditions checked and i've flagged anything that could become a problem before it has a chance to. if it's a race weekend, the mornings are quiet in a different way. i'm focused, controlled and almost tense. i'll have coffee in one hand and my planner in another. when julian wakes up, the day is already running.

📋 what i actually spend most of my time doing:

i manage everything people don't see. there's logistics, there's timing, communication, contingency plans, flights, press, appearances, team communication, personal obligations. at some point, everything runs through me. the real work is the anticipation of knowing what julian needs before he says it. i know when something is about to go wrong before it does. i'm not just organizing his life, i have to protect it from falling apart under pressure.

📞 the part of my job that drains me:

the part where i have to be constantly aware. nothing ever fully turns off. i'm always thinking three steps ahead, i'm always preparing for the worst-case scenario. always holding everything together so no one else has to. and when something does go wrong, i don't get to react to it, i just fix it.

🔥 the part i love (but don't always admit):

honestly, i do love the pressure. i like knowing that things work because i made them work. there's something about watching everything come together exactly the way it's supposed to. moments happening the way they were planed feels earned. i like being the person that people rely on, even if i don't always know how to be anything else.
