Dani looked up when she heard the door open and then stood up as James came back in, heading straight for Peyton and his daughter. “Pey, what’s her name?” She finally asked. Peyton grinned up at James as she gave him their daughter. She nodded for him to tell everyone. Dani walked over to her wife and kissed her cheek. “He looks happier now than when he walked out.”

“We had a little talk.” Santana mumbled. JAmes cleared his throat and looked at his daughter. “Brooklyn Alexis Lopez-Smith.” Brooke and Alexis beamed. “Aw Pey!” they said in unison and hugged their sister. This is exactly how their family was supposed to be. Sure they had their downs but their ups were something to remember. Santana wrapped her arm around Dani and kissed her head looking at her family, “We did good.” she cooed to her wife.

Once Peyton was holding her baby girl and James had gone into the hall with Santana, Dani sat beside her daughter and newest granddaughter. “Baby girl, she’s beautiful. You did so good today. Congratulations.” She leaned down and kissed both of their heads. “I’m so sorry you felt like you had to hide this from all of us, but it’s over and done with now. Mami and I have now seen how much James loves you and that’s all we want for you and this little one.” She sighed as she looked down at the brand new baby. “I’d ask to hold her, but James should be the second person to hold her. So, I’ll wait my turn.” Peyton smiled up at her mom. “Thanks mama. That…means a lot.” She looked down into her baby girl’s eyes that were opening along with her little mouth. “I think she’s ready to eat.” She said as she adjusted herself and her hospital gown so she could breastfeed the girl.

“Do you love her?” Santana asked as the door closed. James nodded. “Do you know that if you hurt her or my granddaughter nothing will be able to save you from the wrath of a hispanic family.’ James nodded again. “Protect her okay? Thats my baby in there and the last thing I want is her hurting anymore.” James smiled and nodded. “Now go and hold your baby.” Santana urged the man.

Peyton grabbed onto James’ hand tightly through a contraction and sighed once it was over. “Hey.” She pulled on his hand and made him look at her. “It their fault as much as it’s our fault. You aren’t blameless in this either.” She sighed. “Whoever wants to stay in here can, as long as you’re nothing but supportive. You will be kicked out if you aren’t. The children probably don’t want to be stuck in here or see this. Mami, can you call grandma and grandpa? They’ll want to know what’s happening and they can watch them.”

Santana admired James’ little defensive speech. She would have done the same thing for Dani. Hell, she had done the same thing for Dani. Santana nodded and called her parents and dani’s hanging up when they assured they were already on the way one of the kids calling. Within the six hours Peyton was pushing out a healthy baby girl and the room was filled with cries. Santana had tears in her eyes. She was upset she missed everything from the first doctors appointment to now. After james cut the umbilical chord she motioned for james to come in the hallway.

“Because the second he stepped in the door he was an asshole.” Lexi countered. She sighed. “Yes, of course, that’s what matters Pey.” Her eyes widened as her sister said her water broke. “Oh my God. Do you have your bag in the car or is it at home?” She asked Peyton as she helped her out to the car. “I would smack you right now, but you’re in labor. So, it’s your lucky day. Of course we’ll be at the hospital Pey.” She helped her sister into the car and kissed her head. “We’ll be right behind you.”

Everyone rushed getting to their cars and following Peyton to the hospital. Getting to the hospital they went through the usual and surrounded Peyton as she prepared to give birth. “Hope you don’t disapear after this.” Some remarked and James huffed. “Everyone out.” He snapped. “Except Brooke and her parents. Sure Peyton hasn’t made time to call but that’s because her job is more exhausting than all of yours. When she does finally get a chance to  you lecture her or talk crap. My love isn’t due for another month and she’s in early labor. I don’t care if you don’t like me. Peyton and I love eachother and I’m sick of the shit you give us. I’m not the perfect guy but I try. And if you guys missed her so much you would come visit to check on her or come to the hospital. Communication works both ways.” He huffed and shooed Peytons brothers and sisters out.

Dani grabbed Santana’s hand and squeezed yet gently. She looked at James and saw that he looked like Santana did when she was worried about her. It was in that moment that she realized he truly loved their daughter. Lexi shook her head and leaned against the counter across from Peyton. “We tried being supportive, but he was constantly Dr. Asshole Ego around us. Making snide comments to everyone. How did you expect us to react?”

“Tried my ass.” Peyton snapped. “The second I brought him all you did was shoot him down. We love each other and I’m happy. Doesn’t that matter?” Peyton asked. Soon her stomach was hurting and her pants were wet. “Great.” She huffed. “James take me to the hospital, my water just broke.” She said waddling out of the kitchen and too the door. “If you’d like to mee you granddaughter and niece you’re welcome to join us.”

Dani sighed sadly. “Why did you hide it from us? Or do you really want us to ask you if you’re pregnant every time we talk to you?” Lexi asked with a glare. “You went out of your way not to come home or to family things. You made a conscious decision to keep this from us.” She held up her hand as Peyton was about to interrupt. “You know it’s true. Brooke got pregnant at 15 and we were all there for her. Why would this be any different?” She stormed away from the table and into the kitchen.

Santana rubbed over her eyes and got up to go after Lexi but sat down when Peyton got up instead. She went into the kitchen and leaned against the counter. “Maybe because when I come over you belittle my relationship, talk down to me about my decisions, and talk shit about my boyfriend whom I love very much.” Peyton huffed.

“I didn’t flip anything, I just repeated your words back.” Dani argued. She looked at her wife and sighed. She knew that look. The look that said “I have nothing good to say, so you’re gonna do the talking.” She rolled her eyes. This was their daughter. “So, Peyton. How far along are you and why did none of us know?” She asked as she began to eat her dinner.

"I'm 8 months." Peyton chimed. "None of you asked." Santana huffed. "That's not funny." She deadpanned and went back to eating in silence. The other kids acted as if nothing was wrong, as if peyton hadn’t disappeared for eight months. Santana had lost her appetite so she pushed her food around her plate. “I would love to stay longer moms but the m&ms have gymnastics in the morning.” Nathan said. “We’ll see you tuesday.” He beamed and collected his girls.

Dani’s eyes widened at her wife’s words. “So, if I died in your arms you’d just be done mourning me soon enough? Good to know.” She shook her head. She grinned as everyone gathered around the table, but it faltered slightly when she saw the two empty chairs. She waited for everyone to grab food, helping where needed, before getting her own. Her head spun quickly and she grinned at Peyton’s voice. Her eyes widened, almost popping out of her head, when she sees a very pregnant Peyton. “Peyton!” She quickly walks over and hugs her daughter tightly and kisses her head before shaking James’ hand and saying hi. “Come eat. Explain.” She said with a demanding tone as she retook her own seat and grabbed her wife’s hand.

“In his own time I meant. God Dani don’t flip my words like that.” Santana eyed james and peyton. She wasn’t going to say anything. She would let Dani do all the talking. Santana sipped her wine and looked at Dani. “Nice to finally see you Pey.” The twins said in unison and everyone else agreed.

Dani watched as Nathan put on a fake smile for everyone and frowned. She shook her head. “No. Not yet. She promised me she’d be here though. Maybe she’s just running a little late.” She sighed. “I hate that we can’t help him.”

“Jenna died in his arms, we can’t help him.” Santana shrugged. “He’ll be done mourning her soon enough.” She added. Soon everything was ready and the large family was seated around the table. Santana looked at the clock and frowned, Peyton wasn’t coming. “Alright everyone eat before its cold.” Santana urged. In the midst of cutting her steak she heard a throat clear behind her. “Room for two and a half more?” Santana turned around to see a very pregnant peyton and nervous looking james.

Dani threw her hands up. “I was coming over here to see if you could man the grill, but now I can tell something’s bothering you. What’s up?” She sighed and grabbed his hand. “Plus, we’re your moms. We worry.” She watched as Kenzie and Izzy helped Makayla and Macey dunk the basketballs and Daniella and Rocky kicked the soccer ball with Brianna and Andrew.

“I’m just really missing Jenna.” Nathan said before walking over to the grill and putting on a smile for his family. Santana sighed. “Have you heard from Peyton?” Santana asked. “We’re gonna be eating soon.”
