#dancingredband #flyfishing #oregon #middledeschutes
Couple of Sundays ago on the Bitterroot, just before the storm blew through. New book is rivaling the Skwala hatch, in the Grizzly Hackle, Blackfoot River Outfitters, and Fact & Fiction in Missoula, Osprey Outfitters, Freestone Fly Shop and Chuck Stranahan’s Flies & Guides in Hamilton, Angler’s Roost, Rock Creek Fisherman’s Mercantile and who knows where next. Bad & Nationwide in the Bitterroot Valley!
Road Trip #2 is now available. The lowdown on taking a fly-fishing road trip to Missoula Montana to fish four famous trout streams. The book includes hatch charts, info on native & wild trout, fishing access sites, fly patterns, the "must fish" hatch for each river, where to camp, what gear to fish and color photos from cover to cover. Juan Calvillo spent 25 years photographing for clients from Nikon USA to Sage. Now he's turning his cameras on trout, the magnificent rivers in which they swim and wild America. Juan's quest is to produce books that do justice to the sport of fly-fishing. Come with him as he takes you on road trips to some of the most beautiful trout streams on earth!

October Caddis, Purple Frenchies & Redband Trout!
Introduced a fishing buddy to the Deschutes River on Saturday, and he had a great first day. We had fished together on one of the Deschutes’ tributaries a couple of weeks earlier, and caught a lot of small redbands on an assortment of flies including October Caddis with a purple Frenchie dropper. Since the big caddis were flying around on the Deschutes, giving that pairing a shot seemed like a good idea. It was, with at least a dozen redband to my hand, including one hog that took 3 runs and had me calling sooooey to get it to come in.
Justin got his share of Deschutes redbands as well, and we will be visiting the D again soon.
Good water on the Deschutes River, 11/5/16.
October Caddis (top) and Purple Frenchie are both a little rumpled after having been chewed by a few redband trout on the Deschutes River, 11/5/16.

Sidetrip to Yellowstone
Went to Montana to finish Road Trip #2 and ended up spending a couple of days in Bozeman. Went to Yellowstone on a daytrip with my cousins and their kids and got some nice shots of bison calves and the Yellowstone River.
Don’t pet the bison!
